"Episode 5 ‘City of Light’ gathers just about all the emotions you experienced from this entire debut season, and bundles it into my chaotic, emotional, brutal and epic finale."
Guardian of Gotham is a fantastic penultimate episode that potentially opens the doors to become one of Telltale’s most rewarding and fulfilling season’s yet.
There's more to Maize than it's concept initially suggests. A funny game that manages to balance silly humour with a genuine sense of mystery and some worthwhile gameplay. Unfortunately let down by some technical issues, but ultimately a well crafted parody.
A basic action RPG that's not without it's charm. Boss fights are an interesting mix of action and bullet hell, however the rest of the game is simplistic and becomes tedious. Players who aren't already familiar with other Touhou games may find this difficult to get in to.
There’s a lot of fun to be had with Lethal VR on PlayStation VR. With its price tag set at a reasonable £9.99 it’s worth picking up if you’re a fan of shooting gallery games. It’s a slick package that has lots of interesting elements, even if the Move controllers hinder some of the challenges and the lack of an online leaderboard does limit its replayability. You’ll be able to see everything the game has to offer in two to three hours, but it’s a fun ride.
Titanfall 2 is a game that doesn’t deserve to be lost in the crowd, as it is one of 2016’s best, hands down.
An endearing experience, though unfortunately not without its flaws. Far too short and badly paced, but if you can get past that, the world and art is gorgeous and there are some enjoyable puzzles on offer.
Dishonored 2 is a fantastic game which offers the player more choice than ever before in a world that is arguably even more seductive.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare certainly isn’t the best in the series, but it’s by no means the worst and truth be told, yes there maybe better options out there, but regardless, this is still arguably one of the best FPS games that you’ll play this year.
Battlefield 1 is a rarity, a game that in my humble opinion, has most certainly lived up to the hype.
In 2011, Skyrim is rightly considered to be one of the greatest RPG’s of all-time and now in 2016 with its Special Edition remaster, it still stands loud and proud as one of the best on the market.
Ultimately, Drive!Drive!Drive! is a phenomenal title, of which positives one could discuss for hours, however, as good as it is, Drive!Drive!Drive! also has its flaws, which at times can absolutely ruin the fun which can be had with the title. The biggest, and most jarring problem with Drive!Drive!Drive! is the fact that the Artificial Incompetence which is enjoyable at its best, is downright game breaking at its worst. When not in control of the player vehicle, there is always a chance that it may fall off the track, and when that happens, there’s a chance that upon the switch, it’ll be impossible to drive it, as it’ll simply be stuck in place.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is bare-bones remaster of a great game that released back in 2010. It looks better, it even runs a little better, but the same issues that plagued the original plague the remaster.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is the perfect title for the PSVR. It’s a fast and frantic, rollercoaster house of horrors that needs to be in your collection. You’ll descend into madness and you’re going to love every minute of it!
Blood, guts, and broken bones are a vital part of Mother Russia Bleeds, as despite it’s old school visual facade, it is an extremely gory title. And, contrary to popular belief, that’s good, very good in fact. Gore which accompanies the violence that is present throughout this Soviet journey, is the backbone of the the title, as it is the thing which allows Mother Russia Bleeds to stand amongst other slouching, half-baked indie products. And ultimately, gore is the final piece of the puzzle which makes Mother Russia Bleeds whole. However, the puzzle despite its completion, is lacking in some sections, as the story of Mother Russia Bleeds gets constantly lost amongst all the blood, screams, and chaos. And that is what some may find disappointing, as many will see Mother Russia Bleeds‘ story mode as nothing more than an extension to the arena mode.
If you have a PC and still play the first game then Killing Floor 2 will probably be right up your street, BUT may not have enough to it to make you stop playing the original just yet. On PlayStation 4 it's a great alternative to the usual first person shooter games. The community is made up of people that understand what the objective is and they do it well. It's not without its flaws and there's a few odd glitches that'll hopefully be patched out, but it's a brutal online game that will leave you wanting to play just one more round again and again.
Batman Arkham VR was never a spin-off to the main series that I expected to see making use of Virtual Reality. However, even though its campaign is very short-lived, it presents some very clever ideas that excites me for the future of VR.
Iron Fish looked promising all the way up until its release. A mixture of underwater exploration and spooky thriller mystery. There was plenty of potential here. However, sloppy gameplay design and tedious, frustrating mechanics ultimately let it down.
Civilization VI has more to offer in its base game than its predecessor did. That's not to say it matches Civ V when you take its expansions into account. Gods and Kings and Brave New World are what made Civ V the game it currently is; without them, it was still enjoyable, but it felt incomplete. Civilization VI has the same feeling. You know there's more to come, which makes it difficult to criticise it for not being as good as what's come before.
When Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare released in 2007, it became an instant classic. Now in 2016 we have Modern Warfare Remastered and it’s arguably the best remaster I’ve played, it’s just a shame that it’s currently not available as a standalone purchase.
