Chalgyr's Game Room's Reviews

Overall, I would say that Psikyo Shooting Stars - Alpha is just about a must for Shump fans. Six titles, six sets of leaderboards, plenty of options to change up your options such as extra continues and loads of different gameplay options, this first of two packages is worth picking up.

Labyrinth of Lost Souls definitely wouldn’t be my first suggestion for someone either new to dungeon crawlers or a veteran, but I’d probably lean more towards getting someone used to the genre before getting them on a different title, unless you really have a dungeon crawler hole you need to fill.

Both of these tables are a good deal of fun, and easy to recommend to fans of the Pinball FX3 series. The visuals are fantastic, and the two tables while both Halloween themed may seem similar, they play quite differently from one another. Of course, having a third table in the pack would have been nice, but the two we got were high quality and easy to spend several hours with.

Zen Studios knocked it out of the park with the Arabian Nights and Cirqus Voltaire tables, both of which were ones I enjoyed in my younger years and still find challenging and entertaining today. Being able to play classic tables like this in digital form is an absolute joy and they fit beautifully withing the Pinball FX3 framework. I am sure there are players who will enjoy the slightly cramped, high speed offering that No Good Gofers provides, but for me at least it was the least entertaining of the tables in the pack.

Despite these complaints, I quite liked what was being done here with Macrotis. It’s short, sweet, and to the point with very little padding or hair wrenching frustration. While it will probably only take 3 to 4 hours to complete, Macrotis: A Mother's Journey definitely has the puzzle platformer portion nail down to a decent extent. Now if only the physics and plotline could get a little nudge, it’d definitely be a pretty solid game.

So mixing in some of the old with the new, and always available to bounce back and forth, Tomb Kings adds a couple new hours to Chaosbane acting as an Act 5. While it doesn’t fix what do you really do next after you finish the campaign and the expansion, it’s still a good dose of quick fun for new and returning players alike.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a fun game to experiment with but if you get frustrated easily I wouldn't recommend this. For anyone looking for a challenge or fans of survival games, this will be right up your ally! To me, the game is worth a try for the experience but that doesn't mean it has no flaws there as there are a few of them, but at the same time, the game can be very rewarding.

Overall though, if you’re a fan of RPGs, loads of dialog, cheezy yet well thought out retorts and just some good old fashioned fire fights between clones and robots? Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory is worth looking into and remember, trust no one. Report everything. But most importantly, remain happy. Happiness is mandatory.

I absolutely love this game because it is in depth and adds so much more to the gameplay and strategy both on the map and in combat. Revelations adds a ton of new content with 10+ hours of story, new factions, new tech to play with, and new strategies to employ. This DLC in the Age of Wonders series has impressed me greatly, even though I had some minor hiccups during gameplay (like the game froze on me. I needed to force close the game and reopen it, but thankfully, I didn't lose more than a turn or two.) As such, it earns an 8 out of 10 because of the sheer amount of content and the fun I have playing it. Revelations makes for a must have DLC, in my opinion, because of the story, the strategy, and the impressive lore added. It is more than I expected for this DLC.

I think that it's moments like these that SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays really plays upon, and plays upon them very well. Sure there are tactical aspects to your decisions, including customizing your troop gear, but where SD Gundam really grew on me … was in its ability to bring forth some of the most precious moments in my early Gundam fandom, and for that I say "well done."

Ski Jumping Pro VR offers bite-sized fun at a slightly higher price point than I can recommend. Even knowing that, what we have here is a slightly better than average effort that provides an enjoyable, if brief, VR experience.

9 / 10.0 - Phoenix Point
Dec 17, 2019

Phoenix Point for me was just a blast. Literally and figuratively if you ask my enemies. Amazingly designed for one of the best damned Squad Based Turn Based Tactics that I’ve played in a long time, I fully recommend it to anyone that’s had their eye on it. Going back… two years to a sponsored Facebook post? It’s been worth the wait and even with its very late entry into the year, is hitting my 2019 Games of the Year list. Thank you Snapshot Games!

8 / 10.0 - Space Pioneer
Dec 16, 2019

There isn’t really a lot to Space Pioneer. You run, you shoot, you upgrade, rinse and repeat. Despite not being either in-depth or complicated, I had a lot of fun with Space Pioneer. With an option to play on your own or with your friends, Space Pioneer is a nice little time waster when you’re looking for something to do for about half an hour to an hour at a time. With over 60 stages in the main game, and an unlockable endless mode, there is enough to keep you entertained for a while, even if it isn’t the style of game you’d sit down for a few hours to play.

BATTLETECH, released to critical acclaim 18 months ago, has been kept relatively fresh with the dripfeed DLC that Paradox and Harebrained has put out. From its stellar launch, brutal DLC, or its pinnacle send-off with Heavy Metal, has brought long nostalgia to the fore and kept it there. Though the Heavy Metal DLC offers a number of different loadout possibilities, it sadly, brings little new to the table by way of meaningful content. What content it does bring is exceptional, well-crafted, and exceptionally detailed and adds plenty of replayability; there is just that slight, tight tug of desire and longing.

Although it doesn’t have much replay value, I would definitely love to try it on another platform to live what I think would’ve been the true Remothered Experience.

7.3 / 10.0 - Farabel
Dec 10, 2019

Overall though, releasing this close to the end of the year, Farabel is definitely a stealth turned based strategy hit. While not overly long, the elements in place make for quite a difference from your normal bouts of armies and heroes going up against one another.

8.3 / 10.0 - Heroland
Dec 9, 2019

Overall it's an interesting blend of elements and Heroland works amazingly. Keyboard and mouse or a controller as it is also on the consoles, the input and the navigation of the menus is both simple and clean. Been wanting a good dungeon crawler but also want a bit of a simulator? Check out Heroland and guide a few guests through their fantasy of becoming RPG Heroes!

5 / 10.0 - VR Ping Pong Pro
Dec 6, 2019

VR Ping Pong Pro has a solid enough presentation and gets more right than wrong in just about every area but the one that matters the most - the actual gameplay, which misses the mark worse than one of my real life volley attempts. That unfortunately holds back what could have been a good game from reaching its full potential.

Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time is a solid virtual reality adventure offering that probably could have stood a bit more content, slightly faster movement options and maybe a few more chances taken along the way. All of those things being said, fans of the series should find a whole lot to like about the performances and presentation, and even those who have not followed the exploits of the Doctor will probably enjoy the adventure as well.

7 / 10.0 - Rise of Industry
Dec 3, 2019

Overall, I do enjoy Rise of Industry, even with its flaws. I'm sure that some of my gripes boil down to things I haven't yet figured out. We could chalk it up to its unique style of management game but I am not sure if that is really the issue here. It has made leaps and bounds since its early access days and I'm thankful for the progress, but for some reason I still feel like the game could use more improvement. The concept is great and the foundation is there for Rise of Industry to be an excellent management game, but it still needs some time. At least for me. But don't worry, I'm still going to be playing this game well after writing this review!
