This is probably one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead so far. Pretty much everything was done right in this episode, the character building, the tough choices, the impact of choices, the remarkable scenes featuring Carver and the tense action scenes. There are some technical issues that don't seem to impact the overall enjoyment of the game. What are you waiting for? Play this episode now.
Halo 5: Guardians is one hell of a rollercoaster for Halo fans. From the sombre and sad times to the action packed thrill ride, it surely was an incredible experience all around.
Rise Of The Tomb Raider manages to carry on the success that was started with the rebooted version of Tomb Raider. There isn't much I can say is wrong with this game other than some minor issues here or there, the story was interesting, the gameplay is fun, and I found it just enjoyable to play through all the optional missions with the tombs being a stand out out of the optional side activities. Microsoft promised a huge end to 2015 for the Xbox One, and Rise Of The Tomb Raider has solidified that statement even more. PS4 users, although the wait sucks I can say it will be worth it in the end as Rise Of The Tomb Raider is a must play for all fans.
While the framerate issues were annoying, and did have a slight effect on my overall impressions of the game, Dark Souls III is without a doubt the best game of 2016 so far. I enjoyed pretty much everything about the game, the bosses, the enemies, the level design, the soundtrack, everything was just amazing. If it wasn't for the issues with the framerate along with some other smaller issues, then Dark Souls III would have been a 10/10 game. Even with these issues, it's a must buy game which I recommend everyone should buy on release date.
SOMA is above anything else, an experience. The game's story is bound to stick with you for months after playing it, just like a great movie. It's pacing is damn near perfect and any fan of the genre should hit themselves over the head of they continue to ignore this one.
Cuphead is a true masterpiece that every serious gamer should at least try. It's the most stylish and unique 2D action game since Viewtiful Joe.
Metal Gear Solid V has beaten all the other games so far as my favorite game of the year so far, and with such a competitive year it's quite impressive but also expected due to the high standard of Metal Gear Solid games. There ended up being many reasons why I was left extremely impressed with the game with the gameplay being one of those reasons. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but just a few hours after playing MGS V, I was hooked. If you haven't already bought the game then go out and buy it right now, it's just that good!
I once said Mortal Kombat X is one of the most stacked fighting games of all time, I can now say Mortal Kombat XL is the most stacked fighting game of all time. The content, the quality, and the lasting appeal in this game is just incredible. I honestly think this is almost the perfect Mortal Kombat game ever, to the point were I would be happy if Netherrealm would just keep on supporting the game until the next gen of consoles. If you didn't manage to pick up Mortal Kombat X last year, then now is the perfect time to invest your money in one of the best fighting games you will ever play. Go buy it!
Day of the Tentacle Remastered is a game I am proud to have gotten to play and experience. The game stands tall next to the great adventure games of today thanks to the improvements made to the game. If you enjoy adventure games, great puzzles, or lough out loud humor play Day of the Tentacle Remastered.
Epistory is an unexpected indie gem.
Ultimately, the Blood & Wine expansion rivals and bests some full AAA games I’ve played in recent memory.
VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action really impressed me with just how interesting its colorful cast of characters and topics were.
Collectively, (if you pardon the pun) the BioShock Collection offers a TON of single-player content. Seriously, if you’re the gamer who prefers single-player to multiplayer then this collection has a massive amount of content on offer. Not only do you get the hugely praised single-player of all three base games, you will also get all the additional single-player content that all three games offer.
Out of the entire PlayStation VR launch lineup I’d have to say Thumper is one of the must plays. It’s certainly one of the best music rhythm games I’ve played in years and the best “rhythm violence” game. Playing in PlayStation VR is the best way to experience this game as the sense of speed and being in that visual showcase surrounded by thumping audio is made all the better by it. The fact that it offers plenty of challenge to incentivize return runs is one of the best parts about it and I know I’ll be playing it to improve my scores for quite some time.
I'm struggling to find many faults with Yooka-Laylee. Okay, it's held back by some minor technical issues but other than those minor issues, this game was an absolute blast to play. If you're looking for a chilled out, over-the-top, and at time hilarious video game that is also fun to play then Yooka-Laylee deserves your attention. This gets an absolute recommendation from me, and a must buy at launch.
Aaero is an amazing experience with one of the best soundtracks I ever had the joy to listen to. It's genuinely fun to play and the songs will stick with me for weeks to come. It's a brilliant work of audio-visual art and my only complaint is there aren't more tracks to enjoy. If I ever see DLC for it, it'll be a snap purchase! Because as Flux Pavilion would say it: "I can't Stop"
Nex Machina is yet another classic game from Housemarque and I feel it is the pinnacle of the twin stick shooter that every game that follows it needs to strive to match.
Like I said at the start of this review, Sonic is back! And he is back in a big way with Sonic Mania. If you have given up on Sonic in the past then now is the perfect time to jump back in to give your friendly blue hedgehog another chance. Sonic Mania smashed through all expectations, and could be one of the best Sonic games ever made. Go buy this right now, whether it's PC, Switch, PS4 or Xbox One, everyone must play this incredible game.
2017's Game Of The Year just got a new contender, Super Mario Odyssey IS exactly what I wanted and then some. The hype usually can not keep up with a video game but Super Mario Odyssey not only keeps up with the hype, it has passed it, and has gone way beyond my expectations. Sure there's some minor issues that I had with the game, but it never once made the game any worse for me. I couldn't put down Super Mario Odyssey and I'm kind of sad that I have to write this review right now because I want to get back to the world of Super Mario Odyssey that much! Look out other GOTY contenders, it looks like Mario has just entered the game.
Assassin's Creed Origins takes the series in a new direction with more RPG elements and it's better for it. The game has a huge map with an incredible density of things to do which will keep you busy for well over 100 hours. It looks amazing and especially those playing on an Xbox One X hooked up to a 4K/HDR TV will not believe their eyes at how simply gorgeous it is. The production quality here is off the charts and I can't help but look forward to where the series might be headed next. But for now? I'll gladly dive back in for a NewGame+
