GameGrin's Reviews

Genesis Alpha One is a game that I love coming back to for both short and long bursts. It's got an absolute ton of replayability with some really interesting designs and mechanics to boot.

An 80s action movie in videogame form, some poor design choices don't stop this being a great sandbox to play in.

7 / 10.0 - Project Hospital
Jan 27, 2019

For a first release, this game is very detail oriented. The sandbox is fun to play with, to relax and design with no pressure, and the campaigns have tutorials to go along with them. The campaigns can be a little intense, so be prepared!

4 / 10.0 - Vane
Jan 26, 2019

It can still look visually striking when viewed from a distance while its audio design, with a brooding electronic score, can also be wonderfully atmospheric. Sadly, it's not enough to salvage a wholly disappointing experience that never reaches the lofty heights it begins with.

9.5 / 10.0 - Pikuniku
Jan 21, 2019

It's hard to talk about Pikuniku without giving too much away, so just know that it's a fun little puzzle-platformer that doesn't take itself seriously.

Wales Interactive deliver a game that excels in taking the player into a mysterious and unsettling place rife with oddball characters, creepy radio stations and untimely death. However, it is not without issue and at times feels a little disjointed in delivery.

7.5 / 10.0 - Kenshi
Jan 12, 2019

An intriguing RPG/Survival hybrid sandbox that invites you to experiment in the world it presents. Some technical hiccups interrupt the open world and the freeform nature definitely isn't for everyone but if you are after something different, Kenshi is the very definition of that.

7.5 / 10.0 - RimWorld
Jan 9, 2019

A satisfying colony-building sandbox with a lot of replayability that suffers from a lack of polish in the UI. A great aesthetic and quirky sci-fi take on the genre mean there is a lot to like here, it just takes a little digging to get there.

A fantastic example of world building done right, but a real test of patience even for veteran strategy gamers.

While we all wait for the inevitable porting of Super Mario Maker to Switch, BlockQuest Maker provides a perfectly serviceable alternative for anyone eager to create and share their own devious levels with friends and strangers alike.

Sloppy controls, an aimless direction, and atrocious level design hinders Dynamic Pixel's newest entry in the Hello Neighbor series from reaching the potential that many believe it has. While a whimsical art style and great performance across a variety of performance are great to see, Hide & Seek results in a forgettable and frustrating experience overall.

8 / 10.0 - Boundless
Jan 4, 2019

A fun MMO centric take on the survival crafting genre that Minecraft made famous. Solo players will still find the experience enjoyable, especially when paired with the unique play on the simplistic art style. While the importance of constantly checking the knowledges section within the menu becomes a bit annoying at times, Boundless remains a fun experience that fans of the genre will enjoy overall.

4.5 / 10.0 - Doom VFR
Jan 2, 2019

While DOOM: VFR can be a fun game to play, the lack of ultra-violence and short playtime overshadow the fun that DOOM: VFR provides, especially at it's current price

Insurgency: Sandstorm needs a bit more polish to be the outstanding sequel it should be but if you overlook the issues you'll find a fairly enjoyable multiplayer title.

5 / 10.0 - The Room
Jan 1, 2019

A great game, but with no value added it isn't worth buying over the mobile version. Too expensive for a game that's best played on a mobile screen anyway.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes Of An Elusive Age is a perfect game, it sticks to with traditional JRPG roots while still bringing in a few new mechanics to freshen it up a bit.

6 / 10.0 - BELOW
Dec 26, 2018

Uncompromising to a fault, Below is a unique and often hauntingly beautiful game but its punishing design eventually becomes a tedious slog, sucking out any intrigue or enjoyment of its initial hours.
