We both liked playing Battle Princess Madelyn even though we thought that there was certainly room for improvement to the game.

The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human is an interesting minimalist 2D Metroidvania that favors exploration for most of its gameplay loop while also throwing some bosses at you here and there at a steady pace. It's the right length as to not overstay its welcome, and is a game on PlayStation 4 you should check out.

Fossil Hunters fun and crazy good when played either on your own or in (local only) multiplayer – the more, the merrier! Each level lasts for as long as you want since you can stick around long after you complete a dinosaur diagram and any extra objectives, as you search for any collectibles so that you can fill up your journal. I have had a blast playing this one, and other than some mild slowdown here and there – which is not a deal-breaker – I recommend you play it today!

Quarantine Circular's sneak release was a pleasant surprise since, after playing the previous Bithell Short, I was more than up for playing a new entry in this sub-series. The characters you'll meet feel like real human (and non-human) beings, with realistic interactions and reactions that will keep you going until the end. You're looking at a couple of hours or so to finish the game, and once you're done, you can do it all over again after activating the developer commentary track to learn more about the game and its development. I had a great time playing this one, and I look forward to the next Bithell Short!

GRIP: Combat Racing on PlayStation 4 is certainly the full package with a ton of content to enjoy. I don't think the game does a good job onboarding new players, but the good thing is that you will pick things up after playing for a bit. It's a tight, fast and tense racer which is all you can ask for. Give GRIP: Combat Racing a chance to grip you!

8 / 10 - Shift Quantum
Dec 13, 2018

Shift Quantum is a clever puzzle game that is very fun on PlayStation 4. The level design is great, and the core gameplay mechanic is very interesting and helps to keep you thinking outside of the box. Add the community created levels and how more and more stages are added every day, and you have a game that is definitely worth your time and money.

9 / 10 - GRIS

Spanish indie team Nomada Studio has done an outstanding job with GRIS, giving us a must-have Nintendo Switch release before the year is over.

If you want a good looking and challenging tactical game with a twist, as well as solid voice acting and an interesting story, then Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a game that is going to scratch all of those itches. I was surprised by the high quality of the game, as well as by its addictive gameplay cycle. Will you visit that extra area on the north side in hopes of finding an artifact or two to unlock some extra boosts? Or perhaps you should call it a day and go back to the Ark to level up a weapon or two so that you can deal that extra point of damage that will make a world of difference? Choose wisely!

8 / 10 - The Forest
Dec 11, 2018

The Forest is a solid survival game with quite impressive graphics, great music that complements the experience, and two gameplay modes so that those that are looking for a more challenging game can go right into that, while those that want a more relaxed run that can allow them to explore every corner of the world without having to worry about dying from someone or something attacking you. The game is heavy on the crafting side, and with everything, there is to find and collect in the game, as well as the many objectives you can complete, you'll spend a while playing this one before you can add a new Platinum trophy to your collection.

WILL: A Wonderful World is an entertaining visual novel/puzzle game with an interesting gameplay loop. The stories of the characters you will get to interact with are interesting and will encourage you to come back to the game as you learn more about them and how their lives interact with the rest. You're looking at 8-10 hours to complete the game depending on how good you are at finding the solution to each puzzle, and if you go for finding 100% of all endings for each scenario.

Timber Tennis: Versus is a fun and minimalist take on the beloved sport. It's a game that everyone can get into, with simple gameplay mechanics that are easy to understand. This is a budget release that is up on PlayStation 4 for only $2.99, which is a great price for the amount of content that is made available in the game, particularly its online multiplayer so that you can test your skills from players around the world. If you're OK with the game hitting the ball for you, which annoyed me a bit but was not deal-breaker, then you will fun an entertaining arcade-style release.

If you're looking for a new strategy RPG to take for a spin on PlayStation 4, then Jagged Alliance: Rage is a good option. It's not going to set the genre on fire, and some might not like the reduced scope of the number of mercenaries you take you on a mission, but what's here is solid, challenging and fun.

In the end, Tiny Hands Adventure is a bright and colorful game with a nice art style and solid 3D graphics that look great on the TV and on the Nintendo Switch's screen when playing in portable or tabletop mode. It pays homage to the Crash Bandicoot series, and it also has a dash of Metroidvania by having sections that you won't be able to access without the proper tools for the job. I had fun playing the game but, as I mentioned before, the difficulty spike in some sections might not sit well with younger players who take the game for a spin.

7 / 10 - I Am The Hero
Dec 4, 2018

I Am the Hero is a button-masher of a beat ‘em up that is simpler than other entries in the genre thanks to it being played on a single 2D plane instead of in a 2.5D plane as would be the case for, say, Final Fight. It does offer an interesting combo system that changes how you approach things, and having one life – unless you unlock and use an extra character – means you will need to be extra careful. Luckily the game has short levels, so when you die, you will only need to carry from the last level you reached. The game is cross-buy, so if you get the PlayStation 4 version you will also get the PlayStation Vita version at no extra cost, and the same applies the other way around.

8 / 10 - Floor Kids
Dec 3, 2018

Floor Kids is a truly fun and solid game to play, with some of the most original visuals around and an incredible soundtrack. If you're good at that kind of game though, you might find the $20 price to be a bit stiff considering you're getting around 3-4 hours of gameplay to get through all the songs. If you're into bboy stuff, turntablism or rhythm games, it's definitely one to play

I liked a lot of what I played in Omen of Sorrow. I love the new takes on the characters pulled from literature and movies, and the combat felt good, especially the bold cancel systems. The animations felt a bit stiff though, and the story mode which I was most excited for, was a letdown. But if you're looking for a new type of fighter that does something different, then you should definitely check this one out!

NAIRI: Tower of Shirin is a great game overall and a fun experience for both casual players who want something to pick up and play in short bursts, as well as for veterans of the genres it encompasses who want something to binge play it all in one evening. This is a good indie addition to any library of a visual novel or point and click adventure fan – and bonus points go to the game for being so charming, cute and adorable

It's been a long time coming, but I'm really glad the Darksiders series is back. Gunfire Games have done an incredible job of bringing back the Horsemen with what I consider the best game in the series. All I'm hoping now is that this will reflect on an even more ambitious take for Strife, the final Horseman.
