Heavily influenced by Michel Ancel's work, Shu is an adorable platformer that is worth your time. With a simple gameplay that manages to become challenging as you get near the end of the story, this title has more than enough content to keep you playing for a while.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a great mix of storytelling and adventure, now available with 4K support on Xbox One X. A definite pick if you missed The Astronauts' debut game on either PC or PlayStation 4.
Red Hook Studios' Darkest Dungeon wins on all fronts by offering a challenging and addictive gameplay. Everything is underlined by a great gothic style art direction and soundtrack, original mechanics and fun blend of rogue-like, turn-based and RPG games.
Heavily influenced by a lost era of JRPGs, Lost Sphear however has its own charm and personality, fixing many of Tokyo RPG Factory's first faults. It's a good little JRPG that will charm those that miss the traditional gameplay mechanics.
Not really original, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory is nonetheless a decent JRPG with one hell of a lifespan. It's a rich experience, with a gameplay that is slick, full of content, but looks a bit crude on the technical side.
Stick it to the Man is a game that attracts attention for its style, the black humor and the puzzles work well together to create this beautiful 2D world of paper and takes you in a spectacular journey. This game can be summed by 2 simple words, beautiful aesthetics. It is well developed with perfect humor. I enjoyed solving the puzzles however I would have liked to see a little bit more stage interaction.
SEVEN: The Days Long Gone is a great title hampered by some poor design decisions. However, its greatness still shines through, and if you’re willing to be a little patient, it offers a really solid isometric adventure that’ll offer you a ton of different ways to carry out goals.
Dragon Ball Fighter Z is a great fighting game while paying homage to the original Akira Toriyama series lovers by fans. The combat system seems simple but do not get fooled. If you want to master the game, you might have to watch couple of top players videos as it really gets complicated once you must pull out different character synergies and combos. Couple of issues here and there such as the difficulty level being too easy in story mode, but this should not ruin the great work put together by Arc System Works.
Monster Hunter: World is an episode worthy of the ambitions of Capcom's franchise, finally using modern platforms to do what was needed to upgrade the series, and able to attract both veteran hunters and newcomers. It clearly represents the future of the franchise, and we highly recommend you try it out, as it's a must-have whether you played any of the Monster Hunter games or not.
Furi is an energetic, challenging boss rush game with an entertaining (and at times frustrating) mix of shooting and melee combat. If you missed this great game on previous consoles or PC, then go ahead and plunge into Furi on Nintendo Switch, you won’t regret it.
Without being the perfect Metroidvania, Nightmare Boy is still a good affordable title, with a fun story and simple gameplay mechanics to appeal to the genre newcomers.
Full Metal Furies is a demanding game from the great minds behind Rogue Legacy, merging RPG and brawler elements into one hell of package. A must-have for everyone on either Xbox One or PC, but we'd recommend playing it with friends or online.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is the game that should've been when it was launched in 2016. Finally complete with numerous game modes, challenges and competitive elements, it offers a great diversity of options that combines with a gameplay that is easy to learn, but hard to master. A nice blend between the logical evolution of the genre and the nostalgic roots of a series that has marked the fighting game legacy, if not gaming's history as a whole.
A bit too simple when compared to its predecessor's rich Metroidvania gameplay, World to the West is still a pretty good game and will keep you entertained for a while
Ode is another great atmospheric game with rich visuals and immersive sound design. It may not grab people looking for more action and adventure, but it manages to create a smooth, mellow ambience that’s entertaining in its own way
Wartile takes on the familiar Viking setting and mixes it with classic tabletop and strategy mechanics. It’s got an intuitive system that doesn’t get complicated over time, and a solid loot setup. Even if you’re not a big fan of tactical games, Wartile is worth a spin.
With a better story than the original, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 fills an insane amount of Marvel lore thanks to a plethora of heroes, villains and places to visit. Even if the formula remains unchanged and we would like TT Games to take more risks, the game is still fun, on top of several new multiplayer modes.
Black Mirror does a great job setting up an unsettling atmosphere and telling a story filled with mystery and intrigue, but it falls short in creating challenging puzzles and memorable gameplay moments. It’s a case of good storytelling bogged down by uninspired gameplay. However, if you like macabre tales and ugly family secrets being dragged out, it’s got a great story to tell.
Floor Kids stands out in the rhythm game genre, thanks to its immense freedom with its fun yet complex gameplay that no other title has. Sure, Floor Kids could be blamed that it's a short singleplayer experience, but its multiplayer mode will be great with friends, and its artistic direction, soundtrack and price makes it a total buy for anyone that has the Nintendo Switch.
At first sight, it is easy to call the new Brawlout a Super Smash Bros. clone, but it's more than that. When you first start the game, the core of it is very reminiscent of Nintendo's fighting game series, but where Smash Bros is a party game, Brawlout feels much closer to a competitive title, which veteran of the Gamecube brawler might be tempted to try out.
