Unscored - Mega Man 11
Oct 4, 2018

As a Mega Man game, this version stands tall. However, there is no escaping the fact the formula is starting to show its age. Tough, challenging platforming we have all seen before.

Immortal Unchained has aspirations of becoming the next Dark Souls, but clunky controls and sub-par combat prevent the game from even getting close to that lofty goal.

An excellent start to the series, Life is Strange 2 improves upon its predecessor in many ways and has me excited for the remaining four episodes.

Armello has almost as many versions as Skyrim, but if you don’t already own it, it’s an interesting take on the virtual board game. The cards you use are beautifully illustrated and the battle-chess animations as the characters do battle connect satisfyingly with your chosen actions.

While previous Valkyria fans will get slightly more out of Valkyria Chronicles 4, it is, without doubt, a fantastic game for newcomers to jump on-board with. Improvements to many of the systems ensure a more balanced experience than previous titles and the availability of a Switch version will no doubt sway many potential buyers looking for a portable option.

A or higher - Forza Horizon 4
Sep 24, 2018

The welcoming, customisable nature of the game coupled with jaw-dropping graphics, an endless supply of events, a meaningful weather and season system and a series-best suite of online components means that Forza Horizon 4 is the best in its class, bar none.

It is by no means a bad game but due to its lineage, its problems seem much greater than they should. I, without a doubt, enjoyed my time within the game, but at the same time, I felt it could have been just that bit better, that bit more refined. As a result, I was never hooked in the way that I was with Rise of the Tomb Raider and it left me feeling a little down. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is well worth playing and it is an entertaining game, it just isn't as good as it could have been and that is a giant shame.

Unscored - NBA 2K19
Sep 20, 2018

Barring a massive rethink from 2K in regards to their microtransaction focus, I think NBA 2K19 is the last NBA 2K game I will be excited for. It is clear the developers only see its consumers as a walking pile of cash so why would I willingly subscribe to that philosophy.

I enjoyed my time with The Gardens Between and appreciated it dealing with a topic that almost everybody can identify with but few games have tackled. Contemplative and moving, The Gardens Between is perfect fodder for a rainy morning in bed spent reminiscing about friends lost and the years separating then and now.

Element is elegant in its simplicity; both its visual design and quick strategy concept are engaging hooks, and it provides a healthy challenge for those seeking it.

Unscored - V-Rally 4
Sep 12, 2018

018’s V-Rally 4 feels like it’s missing an identity; a marquee feature to make it stand out from Kylotonn’s other rally titles, and Codemasters excellent DiRT games. Though considering its absolutely abysmal car handling, even the strongest identity couldn’t save you from the disappointment that is V-Rally 4.

Unscored - NBA Live 19
Sep 7, 2018

A wonderful suite of different game modes are on offer and keep the gameplay fresh and exciting, while the gameplay itself is fast, fluid and flexible. NBA Live 19 is a huge leap forward for the franchise and one that promises to entertain until next year’s entry. Well done EA, you have brought Live back from the dead.

Unscored - Planet Alpha
Sep 4, 2018

At its close, Planet Alpha returns to its beginning, delivering a context not apparent at the outset, and in its imperfect ending delivers you back to the journey you thought finished. It is only when the circle is broken, raising new questions about what transpired, that it truly ends. It is a hostile world, this Planet Alpha, as deadly as it beautiful. It’s almost a shame to leave it.

Sure Golf is a bit of a niche sport and doesn’t appeal to everyone, but for those that do enjoy a round, this is easily the best game available. It is much more welcoming than previous titles, includes the ability to play through the sport’s premier competition and has a never-ending supply of content thanks to the wonderful course creator. As a Golf fan, what more could you possibly want?

Perhaps time will iron out many of the issues as this still feels like a living document being tweaked by the creators. But as a paid game at retail, it’s just not good enough to recommend.

To say Divinity: Original Sin 2 is an outstanding example of the CRPG genre would be underselling. With a story that feels like a best-selling fantasy novel, a combat system that is deep and intuitive and a world that is interconnected in ways the boggle the mind, Original Sin 2 should be a must buy for any RPG fan. It requires dedication and demands your attention, but any sacrifice you make to play the game is well worth it.
