Aperion Cyberstorm is a decent enough twin-stick bullet hell shooter and it's a much better experience shared with friends and family which is to be expected. It's a game anyone can pick up and enjoy. Campaign mode feels like it was a bit of an afterthought and if you are looking for a solo experience then there are better games out there. This though is the type of game I imagined the switch being great for, a few friends, lots of unique ways to set up and play, blasting each other to smithereens. For that, it surely has a place in one's collection.

The Longest 5 Minutes takes some big risks by changing the basic design elements of JRPGs. This is not a traditional JRPG even though it looks like one. To get the most out of this game, you have to do away with your preconceptions of what a JRPG should be. The story is the main focus of this game and literally, everything else is secondary. It is one of the most linear RPGs I have ever played. The equipment, magic and battles are solely there to propel you along as you piece together your history in the middle of an epic final battle. Just remember that your equipment and magic are predetermined at the start of each chapter so you can jump back and forth between them quickly and easily. If you play the game with this mentality and just focus on the storytelling, then it is very enjoyable. If you want an RPG exactly like the RPGs of old in which you had full control over the growth of your characters, then you will come away from TL5M disappointed. My key thoughts at the moment are that I am needing to alter my expectations of a JRPG to enjoy it. If I try playing it with the mentality that all of my actions such as buying equipment or finding things should carry over as it would in a normal RPG, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. But, if I do away with those preconceived notions, don't bother with going out of my way to look for things and just play it by going straight from point A to point B, then I am enjoying it a lot more.

70% - Brawlout
Dec 18, 2017

Brawlout is a very fun, fast-paced game inspired by the Super Smash Bros series. It has clean visuals, but the frame rate has occasional stutters that can hinder gameplay when you need precise inputs at all times to perform well. The game incorporates important competitive features from Smash Bros which helps players who have played those games for years feel right at home. Most importantly, it brings wavedashing from Melee while also improving upon the air dodging mechanic which allowed for it. The biggest problem the game suffers from is an unbearable grind to unlock new stages and characters. However, this could be eased if you have four people to play with at all times because the points needed to unlock stages will be acquired a little faster when multiple people play at once. While I do have some complaints about this game, I also had a lot of fun with it because of how similar it is to Super Smash Brothers. It does not exceed its brethren in any way, but it is certainly a fun game to have while we wait for the real deal to be finally released on the Nintendo Switch. If you are a big fan of the Smash Bros. series and would love to have an experience like it on the Nintendo Switch, look no further than Brawlout. It will certainly scratch that itch. I especially recommend it to players who loved Melee because you just can't go wrong with having a solid implementation of wavedashing after the main series has done away with the feature for the past two iterations. I also recommend it if you have other people who could play with you frequently. It is a much better experience than playing it solo. If you don't care for fighting games, loved the party elements of Smash Bros games such as items, or don't want to grind to unlock stages and characters, then I can't really recommend this game. In the end, I had fun with it and will rate it as a solid 7/10.

Swim Out is a simple yet engaging puzzle game thats a welcome break from slashing monsters or timing runs perfectly. It isn't advanced or complex but it is quite challenging and kept me entertained.

Slayaway Camp: Butchers Cut does a great job of keeping the gameplay simple and engaging. The 80's horror throwback is a great and imaginative setting that you would not expect here. Overall its a fun little puzzle game.

70% - Sky Rogue
Apr 25, 2018

Overall, Sky Rogue is an interesting diversion of a game. It’s definitely not going to be the main game you’re playing at that moment, but will probably occupy a nice side game acting as a palette cleanser to whatever big game you have going on. It’s a shame that it lacks enough depth to suck you in for longer gameplay sessions, but a 20 minute burst here and there will probably be your limits. In that case it’s quite enjoyable, just don’t expect too much more than that. If it was a couple of pounds cheaper I wouldn’t have too much of a problem in recommending it.

SUMMARY The Escapists 2 has a fantastic premise and builds upon the original game, playing on the go is a great way to play and there are some great moments however I feel as though it gets a bit bogged down in menus and systems. The developer has missed the opportunity to give us a bit more back story for the character we play for each prison. Nevertheless its a creative and expressive game worth picking up if you like a sandbox game.

Visually breathtaking with a story which will make you reflect on life itself and the journey we are all on. This is an emotional adventure which will make you think once the credits roll. Buy this game when you have a couple of hours to spare and want something of a more relaxing nature. I do have an issue with the price and if you're looking for lots of gameplay action and challenge then look elsewhere as this will not offer you that. Some brief puzzles yes but that's as far as it goes. As a visual novel, this is short, compact and certainly does not outstay it's welcome. In that regard a resounding success.

7 / 10.0 - Pinstripe

Pinstripe Nintendo Switch Review video thumbnail

World to the West is a decent sequel from Rain Games but I can't help feeling it could have been something more. Everything here is pretty well made and is of a decent enough standard. I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles, exploration and finding out a little more about the four characters. I don't want to spoil the story but it wasn't as good as it could have been and was a lacking depth for me. The combat wasn't challenging and it felt like it was just there to slow you down rather than being a meaningful part of this game. Overall, it's a decent effort and an adventure you are sure to enjoy.

This is a game series over 20 years old and still holds true today. It is even nicer with its graphical upgrades, added characters and new levels which all feel true to the original. Many will be put off by the one-shot deaths, differing controls and toughness of this. The price of entry is also quite high compared to other consoles, but for collectors and people like me who like a tough old-school game then this is a nice return.

The game for me suffers from some flaws one of which is not entirely it's fault in that there is hardly anyone playing this online right now. Unless a significant amount of people buy this in the coming weeks then you will struggle to get an online game, however, Voofoo has made every possible effort to include friends whether online or locally which is commendable. The soundtrack was not to my tastes and everything in the game is solid if unspectacular, the campaign is large so there may be enough here to tempt people who are not interested in the online modes. Some may find this too repetitive initially and while it gets better as you delve deeper, nothing can alter the fact that there needs to be a few more tracks and more variation in the landscapes. For those who were big fans of Micro Machines and need that dose of nostalgia then this will scratch that itch. For £15 you can't go too far wrong as the game does offer some fun racing with tight controls which is all packaged up in a game which runs at a buttery smooth 60FPS.

Burly Men at Sea is a magical nordic fairytale adventure with plenty of charm and a slathering of wit, it has some rough edges and the short play throughs and light touch gameplay won't be for every one but if you enjoy a good tale and a laugh you will likely enjoy this unique game.

70% - Drawful 2
Jul 11, 2018

I think Drawful 2 is a great little party game as long as you have enough people to play with. When I was with a party of people this was great fun for an hour or so. The beauty of the Jackbox collection is that you can then try another game after. You won't have that option when you purchase this as a standalone title but if you own Jackbox party bundles already this will be a nice addition. It's cheap enough for us to recommend but only if you have more than three people you can play with often. Also factor in the fact that you will need a tablet or smartphone each to play this game and WIFI to connect to. If you don't have all of those variables then, of course, it's hard to recommend this game to you as you won't be able to play it. In what Drawful 2 sets out to do it succeeds in giving you fun and laughter for friends and family.

This game was released first on the Wii U in March of 2016 and it was well received then and while it's not an old game I doubt many people would have played it and that's a shame because it deserves your time and attention. Here is a second chance for Star Ghost and me for one am really glad I have this one in my collection. It's deadly simple but has an addictive quality that just kept me coming back for one more go. A great way to have a blast cleansing the galaxy of the Metagon empire! Commander, it's over to you!

70% - ChromaGun
Jan 22, 2018

Overall, I think ChromaGun is a solid title that has a fairly unique presence on the eShop at this moment. If you’re into Portal or something like Q.U.B.E. then you’ll probably get along just swell with this one. It’s a simple concept that does make you think and it’s satisfying solving the sometimes difficult puzzles. On the other hand, the steep price will, and should, make you think twice when it’s available on other platforms more affordably. You can also claim they haven’t done enough to scale the game up visually for the Switch. In that regard, ChromaGun gets a decent seven out of 10. If the price is cut down in the future then you could consider adding a half or one to this score, but as it stands, that’s my feeling on ChromaGun.
