Going Under is a superb dungeon crawler wrapped in some stupidly stylish and silly art that comes packaged with writing that hits a little too close to home for anyone who's ever held a job.
The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos is the game equivalent of a Netflix knockoff of an HBO show: it's not terrible and it has occasionally fun ideas, but it's still worse than the source material in almost every conceivable way.
Paradise Killer may have bitten off more than it can chew. Weak courtroom mechanics, disappointing finale, and rudimentary dialogue system keep it from reaching the dizzying heights it aspires to and allows you to jump from. Yet every other part of the game is a joy, from the energetic soundtrack to the strange, alluring locales of Paradise Island. Let's hope the next one is Perfect 25.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is an immensely enjoyable fantasy RPG that doesn't have as much remastered content as it could, but one that's still well worth a purchase for anyone looking for a change of pace from modern sword and board games.
Solid tactical RPG gameplay set in a varied world filled with incredible characters and 'water-cooler' storytelling. Glaring issues aside, Wasteland 3 shines as the pinnacle of this genre and as one of the best games released this year despite its issues.
Destroy All Humans! is an example of a remake done right. It keeps all the charm from the original while updating the aspects that didn't age well.
HB Studios continues to improve the title that had a rather humble beginning. Each year brings with it new features and improvements and that's no easy feat. That being said, PGA Tour 2K21 isn't perfect and whilst the presentation has seen a much needed improvement it's still a touch limited, especially in the commentary department. Though if you're keen for a round of golf but don't fancy the walk that goes with it, you won't find anything better on offer.
A killer soundtrack and inclusive accessibility settings don't make up for the lack of innovation and gameplay fumbles of this just-another-Madden experience.
Road to Guangdong is a barebones, unchallenging driving simulator that sneaks up on the player with its beguiling aesthetic and warmhearted nature. It will appeal to anyone looking for something very relaxing to wash over them, but don't expect to find a lot of interesting choices to make or inspiring gameplay.
Combat Mission: Shock Force 2 is the ultimate combat simulator and the pinnacle of realism in the strategy genre.
Post-apocalyptic games rarely stray from the formula of making the Earth some barren dust bowl. By doing something a little different, Horizon Zero Dawn affords itself the opportunity to craft a truly unique tale and with it a complex and strong female lead. If you haven't already played it on PS4 and enjoy well-crafted stories, you owe yourself the opportunity of playing your way through the game and its expansion.
Metamorphosis spins a bittersweet, intriguing web of mystery and humour that, albeit brief, is often an utter joy to crawl through, if you're willing to brace a disappointing final stretch, inconsistent graphics, and myriad technical issues.
Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time can help you live out your dream and play as everyone's favorite samurai. It's an action-packed adventure that for the most part lives up to the legacy of the source material.
Microsoft Flight Simulator has enough quality-of-life features to make it well worth a purchase for any virtual pilot, but the ability to fly anywhere on the planet makes for a game that's uncanny and impossible not to recommend to anyone who's remotely interested in the view from above.
An adventure without the boring bits, Jenny LeClue: Detectivú is a sensational game that is well worth playing; just don't expect to solve the case of the missing ending.
Mortal Shell unleashes an astoundingly creative new combat mechanic in a brooding and strange world, but its meandering narrative, uninspired and confusing maps, and punishing-to-the-point-of-cheapness gameplay will test the patience of all but the most hardened of Soulslike fans.
Haunting and striking in equal measure, Inmost strikes a balance between narrative and platform-puzzler that mostly succeeds for the entirety of its short running time.
A classic case of style over substance, No Straight Roads aspires to be so much more than it turned out to be. It's got all the charm of a cult classic without the gameplay to back it up.
West of Dead is a game that conceivably had a lot of potential. However, on PlayStation 4 at least, the game is far too broken in vital areas to ever let players discover whether there was any substance to back up its undeniable style.
Fall Guys is a delightful new take on the Battle Royale format. It has its irritating moments, but overall is a game almost anyone should try.
