Jump Dash Roll's Reviews

7 / 10 - Neo Cab
Oct 17, 2019

A chilled narrative text adventure set in a dystopian technological future that could be closer than it seems. It may be niche, but it doesn't outstay its welcome.

eFootball PES 2020 is a confusing title to recommend. It's best likened to an Alfa Romeo as, when everything works, it's majestic. However, when it's not, which is most of the time, it's such a frustrating experience because you know just how good it could be.

8 / 10 - Blasphemous
Oct 7, 2019

While lacking in sheer variety, what's there is solid. The art style and atmosphere is spectacular, and combat is intense and bloody.

4 / 10 - Erica
Oct 3, 2019

Erica is a novel concept which fails on almost every count, unfortunately, and can't as such be recommended at all.

A decent romp into the mech world for newcomers and experienced pilots alike, let down by an overly simplistic and extremely short mission-based campaign.

7 / 10 - Control
Sep 25, 2019

Solid action-adventure chops and a super central gameplay gimmick just about smooth over Control's rough edges. If you ignore the story and focus on the combat, you'll have a great time.

8 / 10 - Gears 5
Sep 23, 2019

Gears 5 takes the series to new heights but it's weighed down by some annoying bugs and a story that seems to try a touch too hard to tie itself to the original trilogy. Whilst Horde mode is still excellent and the various Versus modes are fun, the new Escape mode is a bit hit and miss.

6 / 10 - The Sojourn
Sep 19, 2019

The Sojourn is a competent and technically apt puzzler, but one which feels oddly empty.

7 / 10 - Fracter
Sep 5, 2019

While it leaves many questions unanswered, Fracter is nonetheless a moody and polished port of a mobile puzzle game.

8 / 10 - Telling Lies
Sep 3, 2019

Telling Lies is a rich drama told in an inventive and fun way, enabling the player to learn what happened in a personal and unique way.

While not perfect, what's there is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, plus it has heart and brains. If you're a fan of roguelikes, Children of Morta is well worth your time.

Faith is a fine return to form for a season which had felt progressively aimless, and an episode which sets up an unpredictable and potentially explosive finale.

Gibbous skews its Lovecraft origins to comic effect, though it would have benefitted from more testing puzzles and less obvious humour.

5 / 10 - Afterlife
Aug 21, 2019

An impressive framework for a seamlessly interactive experience, devalued by the uneven melodrama played out on-screen.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a fine example of brutal turn-based combat involving people you love. Get going in the game and you'll struggle to stop.

6 / 10 - Dry Drowning
Aug 8, 2019

The writing is clichéd and the gameplay linear, but Dry Drowning provides enough quirks for fans of the visual novel genre to warrant a look.

6 / 10 - Night Call
Jul 31, 2019

An initially fascinating murder mystery that descends into repetition for its final two-thirds. A real shame.

Enjoyable, but not as engaging as previous entries, Wolfenstein: Youngblood does a good job of attempting to branch the series out from its trademark style.

New Star Manager ups the ante as you step up from footballer to football manager. The football remains great fun but the rest will work for some and not others. The PlayStation version looks, sounds and runs fine but the Switch's stick and touch screen combo would be preferred.
