GREAT - The Red Strings Club is a great way to spend a lazy Sunday curled up in bed. The story is engaging and made all the better by its well-written cast of rogues. It’ll definitely leave you thinking long after you’re finished.

6 / 10 - Golf Peaks
Mar 14, 2019

WORTH CONSIDERING - Golf Peaks blends logic-based puzzle gameplay with golfing aesthetics for the visual presentation. The game is neither a great golfing game, or really a challenging puzzle game as most of the levels are fairly easy and straightforward to solve, and the sport serves primarily as just window dressing. That doesn’t mean to say that the overall experience still isn’t polished and fun. Golf Peaks lands on the Nintendo Switch for a meager $4.99, and for that you’ll get a few hours of relaxed puzzle fun. It’s a decent alternative to hitting the real links on a given Sunday afternoon.

BAD - The most appealing aspect of The Caligula Effect: Overdose is the battle system which does a pretty good job at being fun for a few hours into the adventure. The game is bogged down by too many problems from boring interaction with NPCs and troublesome game mechanics to be considered something to invest your time or money into.

GREAT - Deltarune Chapter 1 improves on its predecessor, Undertale, in almost every way – from gameplay to music to the wonderfully detailed sprites. It’s probably the best free game on the Switch next to Tetris 99. Play this game with the volume up!

WORTH CONSIDERING - I give the developers credit for trying some new gameplay ideas, but they mostly failed at creating a funny narrative and worlds that are fun to explore. I was never wowed by anything in the game, and that’s a shame. Still, the co-op can be fun and the game did release at a reasonable $39.99, making it worth considering for younger gamers.

GOOD - Treasure Stack is a fun puzzle game that plays it safe and doesn’t draw outside the lines. It’s great to see another developer run with the Wario’s Woods concept, but unfortunately it fails to outdo that game, which Switch Online members can play right now via the NES app for free.

GOOD - Shooter fans should find plenty to like with Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight. The game doesn’t really offer anything revolutionary, but if you’re looking for a quick fix to knock some planes out of the sky this one should do the trick.

EXCELLENT - Swords & Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon, while not being an entirely new game, does come to the Nintendo Switch with trusted pedigree. Tailored for the platform, and utilizing its local co-op play means this game is countless hours of fun with friends. Solo players need not worry, as the Campaign, AI versus modes, and Online offer a highly compelling gameplay experience chalked full of strategy, great cartoon stylization, and humorous puns and writing around every corner.

GREAT - I’m so happy to see this classic Sega franchise make a comeback. Crowdfunding is surely the best thing to happen to video games in the last decade and as we see more terrific indie games and franchise reboots created with this method. I’m still holding out for new Oasis and Shining Force titles. With Back in the Groove, the story, theme, and dialogue are all rather lackluster and dated, but that doesn’t detract from this being outstanding adventure game that is perfect for the entire family.

WORTH CONSIDERING - #Killallzombies is a fresh take on the Zombie survival genre. The fun twin-stick gameplay mixed with the random quirky style makes for a memorable experience. However, difficulty spikes and a lack of game modes hold it back from being a truly great game.

GREAT - Fighting mechanical monsters will always be an absolute blast, and RemiLore brings it up to 11 with its bright style and irreverent charm. Those in need of a truly engaging hack-and-slash experience on the Switch will be right at home with this title.

WORTH CONSIDERING - YIIK tries many new things to reinvent the JRPG genre only to fall flat. It’s a shame because there is a potentially good game buried under the pretentious main character, Alex. The music is great though!

7 / 10 - Cinders
Feb 22, 2019

GOOD - Cinders is an interactive novel that retells the classic Cinderella story from a more mature perspective of each of the four women involved. Seemingly countless decisions, a variety of endings and a well-written story make up a solid foundation. Couple that with beautifully made 2D art scenes and well-planned mechanics in the game and Cinders comes out as strong game in this genre.

EXCELLENT - X-Morph: Defense brings a visually stunning and polished tower defense meets twin-stick shooter game to the Nintendo Switch. I loved the dynamic free-form tactics I was able to employ in every mission, and there’s just a lot of refined gameplay here. That coupled with so many visual effects happening in every battle, it created one of the most chaotically fun experiences I’ve had yet on this platform. For an MSRP of $19.99, I consider this a steal for an excellent game.

8 / 10 - Piczle Colors
Feb 20, 2019

GREAT - Piczle Colors is a fresh and fun take on the puzzle genre. The new gameplay element is fun for beginners, and there’s a hefty amount of content to back it up. The game may be too easy for experts at this type of game, but for everyone else this is a great starting point.

EXCELLENT - The Switch port of Final Fantasy IX is a great way for new players and veterans alike to experience the timeless tale in the best looking version of the game to date. There are a few annoyances that come along for the ride, but nothing that’s going to hinder this fantastic game. Get ready to fall in love with Vivi all over again.

8.5 / 10.0 - Tetris 99
Feb 18, 2019

GREAT - Leave it to Nintendo to think of a new way to bring Battle Royale to the masses. Tetris 99 is a perfect mix of approachable gameplay and highly competitive stakes. The game is highly addicting, instantly fun, and a perfect fit for the Switch. The experience is limited with only one game mode, but even so expect to lose hours of your life to it.

AWFUL - Look elsewhere for a rogue-like adventure game. With sloppy controls, terrible combat, and irritating noises that will drive you insane, Away: Journey to the Unexpected will begin your journey to the loony bin.

GREAT - OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a satisfying and fun skateboarding game that will challenge you to complete tricks to achieve the highest score. String them together by landing on rails and grinding, launching back up to nail another trick, and then land perfectly to increase your score. Landing in a sloppy way or falling off rails and stairs will send you to last place with shame in your eyes.

6.5 / 10.0 - Observer
Feb 14, 2019

WORTH CONSIDERING - There are a few times where Observer shines when you relinquish your mind to its sensory overload. The gameplay can be painfully slow and the story really takes its time to get going. If you’re into Blade Runner it will whet your appetite for a cyberpunk world, but it won’t spark any deep conversations or existential crises you’ve come to associate with the genre.
