Aztec Tiki Talisman is okay. It’s really just a decent no-thrills platformer. It doesn’t do anything special or new, but I also commend it for not being broken. There’s really not a lot to say about it since the game doesn’t stray far from its formula. Maybe it’s worth a look for the younglings or those looking for something straightforward. Aztec Tiki Talisman is certainly priced fairly for what’s available, but it’s hard to ignore there are more appealing options available on the eShop. It just about scrapes a pass from me.
Pixel of Memory is a nice little puzzler with nice, challenging puzzles. A hint system would be very welcome, though, as you can’t progress without solving every pixel object. It works well on the SteamDeck, making it a great coffee game!
Snap Together is a local party puzzle multiplayer game at its core, and that’s the best reason to go for it. We are approaching the season when families are coming together, and Snap Together could be a fun activity to do during the festivities. It’s a fun little title that I would expect to be aimed at a younger audience or people who don’t often play games. Snap Together is available on the Nintendo e-Shop here and is currently on sale until December 18, 2023
Pixel Cafe is a challenging time-management strategy game. The farther I got in, the more difficult the levels were, having to do them repeatedly. I felt the controls on the Switch weren’t always logical, and I just couldn’t manage the right sequence in time to keep the customers happy. The storyline is nice, the soundtrack is good, and if you don’t mind the challenge, then this is a very good management game. Not for every moment of the day, though, as you need to feel fresh and energetic to beat the levels!
Overall, Watermelon Challenge is a fun, Suika-type game for Steam. For only $3, it’s a wonderful addition to any library and makes for a fun gift for long-distance friends as well.
DREAMERS: A Nostalgic Adventure seems like a super fun game with a lot of heart, a cute and cozy story and many puzzles. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play much of this title because of the issues I was having. I would suggest that if you want to play the game you chose one of the other consoles.
Train Valley 2: Community Edition is great value for money if you’re looking for a challenging puzzler that won’t push you to the limits of frustration. Multiplayer isn’t a thing, but I could see this as a fun game to enjoy with younglings, especially if they love trains. For me, it was at its best when I just went at my own pace and completed the objectives. Levels are numerous and varied, so this will likely keep you busy for a very long time. Controls are fiddly to start with and don’t quite capture the simplicity of a PC. But once you get your head around it this a great one to enjoy after one of those long days. It’s a train job worth taking on board.
Battle Stations Blockade is okay. It’s a simple arcade shooter that does what it advertises but doesn’t offer anything new to the formula. In single-player, the game quickly became quite boring and lacked a certain spark needed to keep me engaged. I would recommend the game to players looking to play in co-op. Some gamers just want something fun and dumb that you can play while chatting socially. It is an experience worth considering for game night, but certainly not for everyone.
Born of Bread is a lovely RPG surprise to end the year on. A wholesome and feel-good experience that is suitable for absolutely everyone, especially if you’re looking for a more casual RPG experience. It has a plot that captures the childlike fascination and wonder of a new world, an actively engaging battle system but not too overbearing, and an overall jolly presentation that had me smiling throughout the adventure. Something delightful to enjoy in handheld or share the experience with the little one; just remember silly voices are a must. Born of Bread is feel-good gaming at its best and an adventure I highly recommend checking out.
A Highland Song is beautiful and heartwarming; it feels like you are in the highlands of Scotland that’s immersed in the area’s culture. A’body should play this game, enjoy Moira’s thoughts, and skedaddle aff over the auld highlands. A Highland Song is a wee belter of a game and one of the best games I’ve played this year when Moira and I saw the sea.
If you’re only interested in the most mainstream Solitaire modes, like Klondike or Freecell, you may be better off choosing a more streamlined way to play or one with a story. If you’re at all interested in exploring and learning new rule sets, this is unbeatable and unique in the market. Ultimate Solitaire Collection is a well-made variety pack of card game experiences, ready to broaden your mind or just help you relax. Challenge friends and family to beat your place on the leaderboard.
The latest game in the series: Hidden Cats in Rome, has changed the gameplay a lot, and yet the main idea from the first game is the same. It’s a winning combination of elements, and besides adding more content, I don’t see any way it can be improved any more. Hidden Cats in Rome once again gave me a few relaxing and fun hours from everyday life. I can’t wait for the next game in the series.
Dream Town Island is a dream come true. Watching the cute pixelated characters go about their daily lives, falling in love and starting a family is delightful. There is a great balance in progressing through the game, playing mini-games, unlocking facilities and building your dream town.
Doodle Harmony is a nice idea, executed well simply and cleanly. Match 100 doodles with their outlines and try to better your own time of completion. Or take it easy and just enjoy the little display of coloured confetti and happy sounds when you match them. It’s a nice, wholesome game for a very pleasant price.
When I saw the trailer for Universe of Sale, I was intrigued by the art style and the story, but I didn’t expect it to quickly become one of my favorite games of the year. It is a well-crafted game worth experiencing, and I’ll keep thinking of it for a while.
Astlilbra Revision is a phenomenal achievement from a solo developer. Addictive combat that makes action RPG grinding fun. It’s a crazy story that will tickle the emotional strings and gameplay that keeps on giving the more you sink time into it. This title keeps you busy for hours and hours, whether you’re tucking in for a long session or only have time to fit in a few minutes. Multiple difficulties make the experience more accessible to a wider audience. There are small things to nitpick, like odd translations and missions requiring a lot of backtracking through the same areas. However, these are easily overlooked by the deep combat system and an awesome soundtrack. Astlilbra Revision is also a game that should be held up as an example to all budding game designers. You don’t need the best graphics or super powered engine to stand out, just passion for your work. Hopefully, this review will give Astlilbra Revision the attention it deserves.
Whether you choose to go it alone or have a space-themed game night game with friends, This Means Warp is a solid arcade experience. Graphics may not seem like a lot, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. Easy to pick up, very tough to master and even more tough not to be tempted to come back in for another round. My only notable niggle is that you can’t mix local and online co-op, which is a bit of a pain when you want to play the game with your wife and a friend in another country. Regardless, This Means Warp is one of those co-op games that does its own thing and succeeds in the process.
When I started The Invincible and saw the title screen with the note that the game is based on Stanislaw Lem’s iconic novel, I knew I was in for something unique. I was not disappointed. The Invincible is easily one of the best sci-fi games I’ve played in recent years. It’s engaging, thought-provoking, and beautiful. It’s the type of game that makes you take note of the studio enough to consider preordering their next game sight unseen.
Based on many other reviews of Snakebird Complete, I think it might just be me. But just because Snakebird didn’t pull me in doesn’t mean that I can’t recognize how polished, aesthetic, and without bugs it was. If you like goofy puzzle games, Snakebird might just be the perfect little snake-like for you.
Games Advent Calendar – 25 Days – 25 Surprises takes the very traditional idea of the advent calendar and tries to do something unique and fun. It’s not a bad idea, but the execution leaves something to desire. Besides, even the idea is not particularly novel – for a few years, Google has been doing the same with the Santa tracker. The idea is the same – we have games around Santa’s Village, which can be played throughout December, culminating with tracking Santa Clause “live” on the 24th of December while he races around the globe to deliver presents. Still, if you can’t wait until December and are in the mood for some simple fun, you can try Games Advent Calendar. I recommend waiting for a sale. Though the price is a bit too much for what the game offers.
