I have to say I wasn’t quite sure how to rate tERRORbane. Since the game at its core really just has the player walking around searching for glitches and progressing the story. One could say this is a retro-looking walking simulator. This design most certainly won’t suit everybody, particularly if you’re looking for any form of challenge. At the end of the day, it did get a chuckle out of me now and then and the premises is most definitely different. So I guess I decided to settle on a solid recommendation. If you’re looking for something casual to enjoy you can’t go wrong here.

Liked-a-lot - Cat Cafe Manager
Apr 13, 2022

Cafe Cat Manager is an enjoyable addition to the simulation genre on the Nintendo Switch. While playing the game, you can tell that the developers have put a lot of love into the game’s development and are cat lovers. It is a relaxing business sim with no pressure to hurry you along, and who could resist all the cute cats while you find them forever where they can live happily.

Pompom has the look and feels of a popular 16-bit 2D platformer. But with a unique take on the formula, it ends up as something really quite special. The developers took a risk having you protect the main protagonist rather than playing as them, leading to an experimental and enjoyable gameplay experience. This may even appeal to gamers that have never been fond of the 2D platform genre. Probably the best video game I have ever played starring a hamster protagonist. Be sure to give it a look.

Liked-a-lot - Taito Milestones
Apr 11, 2022

Taito Milestones for me is an awesome collection of Taito arcade titles that showcase more of the company’s early work rather than their best. It’s a collection that will certainly turn the heads of the retro gamers that are looking to enjoy these titles on modern systems. There’s a pretty good variety of games which is welcome but some will click more than others. To me this milestone collection showcases originality and risk taking from the era where video games development was in its infancy. It’s just a shame we don’t see much of that innovation in modern gaming today. Taito Milestones may not be the best of Taitos past but it’s still a blast to play.

I was curious to see if such a tiny game could entertain me, and it certainly did. I like the idea of giving budding developers the chance to bring their work to a bigger audience in this way. They can show their hard work without having to spend years on a full fledged video game production. I do feel the price is a bit high, but the funds are used to add additional content for upcoming updates to Lotus: The Self Made Witch. If enough funding is reached, we might even see the release of Lotus on Steam and Google Play!

BouncyBoi in Puzzle Land is a brilliant little puzzle game. It offers just enough of a challenge to the player without it getting frustrating. It would be a great game to play with children as it is family-friendly and suitable for all ages. Though younger children might need help from grown-ups with some of the levels. For all those puzzle fans out there, this is one to add to your library on the Nintendo Switch.

Liked-a-lot - Calm Colors
Apr 8, 2022

Of course, Calm Colors isn’t for everyone, but it’s a good game if you want to unwind and think happy thoughts while sliding the pieces onto the right shape. It offers relaxing gameplay, and turns the myriad of lines into a lovely bright image. Looking at the price, you are looking upon many hours of relaxation with no stress, timers, pressure…just you sliding the pieces to the soothing music.

Sokobos is a charming sokoban game with fun Greek elements. It is one that I think fans of puzzle games or even those who are looking for a challenge will enjoy. I definitely know I’ll be picking this up again when I want to flex my strategy skills.

Liked-a-lot - Princess Farmer
Apr 7, 2022

Princess Farmer’s match-three play has different level goals to keep you on your toes and bring a fresh approach to the genre. The game is a charming, relaxing romp through a very colourful world, with plenty of characters to meet along the way. It wouldn’t be every gamers’ choice of genre, but for those that like a match-three game incorporating a visual novel style, it is an enjoyable casual game.

Flat Kingdom scores a positive pass for me mostly thanks to its original take on game design and appealing paper craft graphics which I have always been a sucker for. But the experience is crumpled with frustrating jumping controls and a pace that just went a little too slow and formulaic for me. Everything works here with no notable glitches. If you are looking for a new original platformer it’s worth a look, but for me it’s just a few pages short of greatness.

Loved - Taqoban
Apr 5, 2022

I’ve really enjoyed playing Taqoban for this review. My only complaint would be that fifty levels aren’t enough. When I finished the game, I was wanting to carry on playing it. So to me, that is a sign of an excellent puzzle game if you want to keep playing it after it finishes.

Liked - Our Way Down
Apr 4, 2022

Our way down is a great little horror game. I was surprised this was free; even with the short length. I would have expected to pay like $0.99 for it. Just to make up for the obvious time and effort put into the game by the dev. However, I would rather have paid for it if it meant that the game would have gone on a little longer and filled in more detail. Overall, the story, world, and feeling of Our way down was well worth the time I put in. I look forward to more games from Basim Aziz.

Liked-a-lot - Mini Words Collection
Apr 2, 2022

Overall I can say for the price of a few euro you’ll have loads of word puzzles to play. And these are available to play on the go, making it even better. They should keep any word puzzle fan busy for a bit!

Imp of the Sun is a shining beacon of light. The game feels like it has some limitations with its short length and repeated template to reach each boss. However, it feels like the developers took the budget they had and made sure not to waste any frame of this game. It plays well, sounds great and looks unique. Some gamers will expect more which is fine but to me, this title ticks all the right boxes for good game design. I very much look forward to the developers’ future work.

Take Off -The Flight Simulator was not for me, but I guess I want to conclude with some positives first. There are probably some gamers that will be able to look past this game’s faults and enjoy the experience for what it is. After all, there aren’t many flight simulators on Nintendo Switch. Though I would say this game sits more between arcade design and flight simulator. The game doesn’t feature any DLC and there is a decent variety of planes to fly. But despite all this, there are clearly better options if you have access to other consoles or PC. For me Take Off was not a flight worth taking.

Smart Factory Tycoon is an enjoyable game. The developers are continuing to update the game regularly as it was updated as I was playing it for this review. It is not a game that would suit every player as when you are short on money there isn’t much to do except watch the robots at work. But if you are a fan of Tycoon games then Smart Factory Tycoon could be what you are looking for.

Catie in Meowmeowland has many merits: beautiful art and animation, cute characters, and cool bizarre-ness. It’s lighthearted and slapstick funny, even if occasionally crude or downright mean. (I felt sorry for the giraffe candlestick I had to set on fire.) There’s not much of a story, though the overall plot is clear and it wraps up very well. I completed the game in 3.5 hours. Most levels didn’t take long to solve. But too many solutions felt obscure, and I didn’t enjoy resorting to a trial-and-error approach so often. I kept looking for reasons to give the game a positive rating, yet I hesitate to recommend it unless you are (1) patient and persistent in solving puzzles, (2) open to a cute, colorful art style and (3) not expecting a story or puzzle design on par with well-known point-and-clicks.

Loved - Tunic
Mar 28, 2022

Tunic left a very positive impression on me. I haven’t enjoyed an adventure game like this in quite some time. Tunic cleverly drops the player in its world and just lets them discover things for themselves without feeling overbearing or confusing. It’s a feeling I don’t think I have felt since the good old retro days. Most of all I left most sessions with a smile whether I made progress or not. If that sounds good to you, then I strongly suggest checking it out.

Liked - Onde
Mar 27, 2022

Onde ticks all the boxes for the relaxing video game experience. I wouldn’t say it’s the most memorable of these types of games I have played in recent memory and the bubble-like puzzle elements weren’t particularly enjoyable for me. Feeling just a bit too slow and tedious at times. Still, not all art speaks to everyone and everything Onde does it does well without notable glitches or hiccups. Onde is the video game equivalent of a nice warm bath that weaves the use of sounds into its gameplay. If you need to take some time out from the stress of the world this title certainly achieves that.
