There is a lot to like about Sugardew Island. The Forest Folk are so cute as they run into the shop to purchase the items you’ve worked hard to produce. The colourful graphics, delightful animals, and straightforward gameplay are appealing, and although the island locals aren’t the most chatty, it’s fun to learn about their stories. However, with the issues around upgrading tools and the numerous software crashes, I can’t recommend Sugardew Island at this time. Hopefully, the developers will hack away these thorny problems very quickly because there is an adorable farm shop simulation game waiting for us on Sugardew Island.

Overall, Bao Bao’s Cozy Laundromat is one of the best idle background games I’ve played in a long time. I adore the artwork, and the music is so good and relaxing. I love my little laundromat so much, and I can’t wait to keep it going.

Home Deco Builder is a good game and offers plenty of customisation, but the inability to change wall and floor colours manually and the inability to rotate the rooms make it fall short of what could be a great entry into the home renovation genre.

Liked-a-lot - Boxville
Mar 5, 2025

Boxville is a short but wonderful puzzle adventure about friendship. For me, the lack of Pro Controller use just dipped my overall enjoyment, but if handheld (or mouse via PC) is your preferred gaming style, then Boxville is a great game to play. The graphics are fantastic, and although a couple of the puzzles were a little challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Blue Can and his tin dog in Boxville.

Disliked - Grimoire Groves
Mar 4, 2025

Grimoire Groves has an active ad campaign that claims some of its early players are calling it a mix of Hades and Animal Crossing. It is neither of those things. The NPCs aren’t dynamic, they aren’t your neighbors, and they will become the source of your headaches. The combat isn’t Hades, because it quickly becomes onerous and grindy, and I felt zero joy when I beat the first boss. The combat isn’t smooth, either; aiming your spells is inexact, and only the lack of enemy damage keeps that from being a gamekiller itself. This is a game I desperately looked forward to, and I work hard to be gentle in my reviews, because I can admire the effort. I wanted to be gentle this time, but my partner put his hand on my arm and pointed out that I literally screamed at my Steam Deck in frustration. Grimoire Groves is polished and pretty, put together by people who clearly know what they’re doing, and yet somehow forgot to make the game loop fun to repeat. I cannot recommend it. It made me angry and unhappy to continue, and nothing was satisfying about the loop or its characters. I hope it will improve, but it’s going to take a lot to bring me around for another try.

Mind-blown - Two Point Museum
Mar 4, 2025

With its blend of humour, creativity, and engaging management mechanics, Two Point Museum is another success for Two Point Studios. The two previous games are great, as well. However, I think that with Two Point Museum, the developers have really hit their stride with developing a solid simulation game. It captures the magic of running a museum while keeping things lighthearted and fun, making it a very easy recommendation for all fans of the genre.

Much like the previous games in the series, 100 Hidden Cats: Playground is a short and sweet hidden object game. If you need something concise, this might be the game for you.

Liked-a-lot - Berry Berry Festival
Feb 27, 2025

Berry Berry Festival is fun, adorable, well-made, and a great little game for children. I wouldn’t recommend it for adults, mostly because the little games would probably not give you much of a challenge, but it was still a fun time for me. I adore Berry Berry Festival, and I hope this developer makes a ton more wholesome little kids’ games for me to enjoy.

Liked - Jumper Jon
Feb 25, 2025

Overall, Jumper Jon is a fun, frantic, and charming twist on the adventure genre. While it doesn’t revolutionize things, its unique time-based mechanic keeps things fresh and engaging. The adorable visuals, fast-paced movement, and upbeat atmosphere make for an enjoyable experience, even if the 30-second limit sometimes feels like both a blessing and a curse. It would have been great to see the game take even more risks with its central gimmick, particularly in boss fights. However, as it stands, Jumper Jon is still a solid, entertaining adventure that’s worth checking ou, especially for players who enjoy a bit of frantic, time-based challenge.

Mind-blown - Puzzles for Clef
Feb 24, 2025

Puzzles for Clef is an ideal rainy-day game—it has rabbits, music, whimsy, a beautiful setting, relaxing puzzles, and no rush or hurry. I think it’s a game meant to be savoured and played slowly, and I love it. I think you might, too.

If you’re already a Trails fan, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II is a no-brainer of a purchase, kicking off a fast-paced story on all fours and ready for you to catch up to what’s going on. If you’re new to the franchise, at the very least, I recommend you start with the first Daybreak, but the game does what it can to bring you into a new episode of Van Arkride’s weighty life with the information you need to understand why he cares deeply about some people you’re meeting for the first time. The only major question is what format you want to play in, and if you prefer to make the Switch your JRPG machine, you won’t be disappointed with Daybreak II’s performance. It’s a cozy way to play a convoluted (affectionate) story in a world that’s already weathered countless trials, and is up for weathering a few more. Another solid entry for a grande dame franchise.

In the end, Freddy Farmer didn’t fully click with me, but I still respect what it achieves. Its unique level design, creative enemy AI, and polished presentation are all commendable. However, the game is clearly aimed at a very specific audience: players who enjoy brutally difficult, unforgiving arcade challenges. If you’re the type of gamer who thrives on memorizing patterns, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and chasing high scores, Freddy Farmer will likely be a rewarding experience. There’s a real sense of accomplishment in finally clearing a level after dozens of failed attempts. However, for more casual players or those who prefer games with at least some level of accessibility, the lack of a save system and punishing difficulty make it a tough recommendation. There’s fun to be had, but only if you’re willing to endure a steep learning curve and plenty of frustration. For the low asking price, it’s at least worth a shot for those curious about the challenge. But be warned, this is not a game that holds your hand. If you’re looking for a hardcore arcade experience, Freddy Farmer delivers. If not, you may want to pass.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell sends the series off with a well-deserved celebration of everything that makes the franchise great. It doesn’t reinvent the action-adventure formula, but it delivers a highly polished and heartfelt experience that showcases the developer’s years of growth and refinement. For longtime fans, it’s a fitting farewell. For newcomers, it’s an excellent starting point that may just inspire you to go back and explore the rest of the series. Either way, Moonlit Farewell is a fantastic adventure, one crafted with passion, precision, and a deep love for the genre.

There are a lot of good elements there in Genso Manège. There are also some tiny details that bothered me, and if fixed, would make the game a lot better. That being said I still think that it’s a fun and adorable Otome game. It is beautiful to look at, has great characters and even an interesting story. If you are a fan of Otome games, you will enjoy this one.

Liked-a-lot - While Waiting
Feb 15, 2025

While Waiting was fun, it was weird, it was unique, and it was a lot of time waiting around for things to happen. Overall, this strange little game is exactly what it claims to be in the Steam description. I had a lot of fun with my time in the game, and I hope to be able to finish it soon (I’m nearly done). I very rarely go back to a game after I have finished reviewing it, even if I liked it a lot unless there was something really special about it. I think this might be one of the games I make a little time to finish up in the very near future.

Shalnor: Silverwind Saga is a competent but uninspired addition to the series. It doesn’t innovate or push the franchise forward in any meaningful way. The combat-heavy focus might appeal to those looking for a basic, low-effort action game. Still, for players who enjoy exploration, world-building, or engaging storytelling, it’s likely to feel barebones and repetitive. While the game is technically sound, and I encountered no major glitches, it ultimately fails to stand out. There’s a lack of excitement, depth, and surprises. For newcomers to adventure games, Silverwind Saga could serve as a gentle introduction to the genre. However, for seasoned players or fans of the previous entries, there are far better games to invest time in, including the previous Shalnor titles.

Liked-a-lot - Cave Hikers
Feb 10, 2025

Cave Hikers is a cosy, uplifting experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a stress-free puzzle adventure. Whether you play it alone or share it with friends or family, it’s a game designed to put a smile on your face. I went into it not knowing quite what to expect, but I came out thoroughly charmed. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted, funny, and beautifully crafted adventure, Cave Hikers is well worth your time.

Some of the puzzles were really clever, but others were, as stated above, unintuitive. This was a remaster, yet there were still grammar mistakes. The graphics were so dark as to make playing A Rite from the Stars: Remaster Edition difficult. The only thing that the new one has better over the old appears to just be the price, which is a couple of bucks cheaper. I didn’t get very far in A Rite from the Stars: Remaster Edition, because it was almost unbearable to play. I think this is a game that could have been left in 2018.
