7 / 10.0 - Sand Land
May 6, 2024

Sand Land brings us a formidable, comical narrative experience that at various times evokes the good energy that the late Akira Toriyama accustomed us to, with a rich open world to explore and a good vehicle customization system. It has some flaws, but overall, with everything positive it manages to convey to the player. We invite all fans (and not only) of Akira Toriyama to discover, once again, a small taste of what he gave us so well.

Tales of Kenzara: Zau is a touching and emotional metroidvania that very literally and metaphorically portrays the pain of loss and the subsequent grieving process. The narrative is very strong and its world is a delight to discover and explore, just missing a more robust combat system and the resolution of some problems to be an experience that takes us to heaven. Still, I have no doubt that fans of this genre will find an absolutely captivating and memorable experience here.

This was perhaps one of the games I most wanted to play in 2024. The theme of samurai in 19th century Japan is something that fascinates me immensely and, despite being a theme in many games over the last few years, this title had awakened me something through the trailers. However, the end result was disastrous, with terrible performance and gameplay that only gets away with it thanks to the combat (which, in turn, becomes repetitive very easily). The story is interesting but the way it is told is ineffective. which makes it difficult to interpret and at the end of the day, the only thing left is the combat which, perhaps even interesting for fans of “Soulslike”, however they won’t find the same difficulty as they do in a “NIOH”, for example In the end, Rise of the Ronin ends up being just another samurai game without a unique identity, which will only be recognized for being mediocre.

Where we could see a genuine and enthusiastic recommendation, we ended up finding “just” a solid option to spend two or three hours. With a prosaic plot and fun but basic combat, Rose & Collection is a “diamond in the rough”, a solid base to snap and cry for more, which leaves us with a bittersweet reflection on the number of possible directions to take the narrative potential, ironic and mechanical in addition to the already competent half-league on display.

Penny’s Big Breakaway is a game in which the idiomatic expression “first you find it strange, then you understand it” is perfectly applied. The first impact causes some strangeness and confusion to more modern gaming sensibilities, but as we progress and master the mechanics better, we find a real pearl in this experience. It will not yet be a milestone within the 3D platform genre, mainly due to some inconsistencies and some technical problems that disturb the experience, but it is a game that leaves us with our mouths watering, and praying that Penny ends up leaving in more adventures in the future.

Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass appeared to be a guaranteed victory for Nintendo, after the developers of the shooter series discovered the perfect formula for this style of content in the previous game. However, a respectable search for a new direction and format for the solo campaign culminated in a gigantic drop in the quality and quantity of content, in practically all aspects - and the inclusion of Inkopolis Plaza does little or nothing to dampen it. Still, I'd be lying if I said that playing Side Order wasn't fun; Even though the merit comes mainly from the solid base game, the novelty factor and an irresistible experimentation component help to ensure our fun in an adventure, otherwise, with extremely obvious flaws.

9 / 10.0 - Persona 3 Reload
Mar 9, 2024

Persona 3 Reload has taken the excellent experience that the original title introduced and reworked it to meet the latest parameters of the video game industry. Not only did he refine what was well done, he also rectified the vast majority of its problems. It is a notable loss of an opportunity for improvement by not implementing sufficient mechanics that avoid the problem of repetitive exploration of Tartarus. However, it is a negative point, in a sea of excellence. If you liked Persona 5, then this is certainly a title for you. Additionally, it's a great way for newer players to get access to this experience.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong marks a competent and, above all, fun return to one of the most underrated subseries by the famous plumber. Most levels are simple and short, but very well designed, offering a wide variety of challenges. The game's new paint job is also appealing, the new levels add several new elements and the single player mode (along with the cooperative mode) can be the perfect gateway to show a younger person how fascinating the world of video games can be. It suffers a little from some inconsistency regarding the quality of the Plus levels and some problems in detecting collisions and contact with enemies. But overall, it's a quality experience, which will please new players as well as those nostalgic for this type of monkey business.

8.5 / 10.0 - Helldivers II
Feb 21, 2024

I can say that we are facing one of the best coop games released in recent years. The fun imposed is something superb, and I believe that with the studio's commitment to adding additional content over time, if they play the right weapons (Arrowhead, can I suggest a training ground on the ship to test the weapons, please?), they will be able to keep the player base pretty high... and I'll be there to spread democracy!

Another Code: Recollection is not just a remake, it is a passionate liposuction that aims to make Another Code: Two Memories and Another Code R: Journey into Lost Memories their best versions. The world of Ashley Robbins was completely rebuilt, the puzzles were mostly replaced by fair, varied and appropriate alternatives and not even the story escaped some radical deviations from the original, surprisingly positive as a whole. The end result is an honest and unpretentious journey, perfect as an introduction to the genre and capable of delighting anyone who wants to solve mysteries while smelling the roses along the way.

9 / 10.0 - Tekken 8
Feb 13, 2024

Tekken 8 came out a little later than the other games from the "rival" franchises. This is reflected in the Arcade Quest and Story modes, which are very similar to Street Fighter 6's. The story mode is not at the level of Mortal Kombat 1, however for a second story mode in 30 years, it is quite positive. The cast of characters is quite acceptable and perhaps this is where it gains the most points compared to the aforementioned rivals. Despite one bug or another, Tekken 8 is an excellent entry in the series and is a sign to demonstrate to fans of the genre that the franchise still has a lot to give. I can't wait to find out what the next battle this franchise will provide us with in the future!

The Last of Us Part II Remastered isn't a release for everyone, but it's an offering of undeniable value. It is an irrefutable proposal for fans of this extraordinary series who want to (re)live one of the best narratives in our medium, as well as for players who like to delve into the creative process of productions of this scale. Those looking for a different experience will be able to find something interesting in the No Return mode, although it is not a mandatory experience, neither for those who love the base game, nor for those more fascinated by roguelike experiences. As a whole, this is a phenomenal title, filled with varied and extremely high quality content, but whose return will be more or less worth it depending on how much mileage you have already come with or how fanatical you are about the journey offered here.

7.5 / 10.0 - Persona 5 Tactica
Jan 9, 2024

Persona 5 Tactica offers a captivating experience, but fails to introduce new and different game mechanics... something that others in the genre can do better. Still, it features a captivating narrative, on-point conceptual art and an extraordinary soundtrack. These elements in themselves help immensely in transmitting a rewarding experience to the player. However, we feel like it might be time to let our favorite thieves rest a little and embark on new adventures!

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora had the components to be an excellent game. The narrative base was there, the premise too, and even the gameplay. Ideas that in theory could be interesting, but in practice fell far short of what was expected. I honestly felt that they took several titles from the Far Cry saga (based on Primal, but with current graphics), put them in the blue Avatar outfit and released this title.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk is the best Pokémon game expansion to date. The story is good, the characters' narrative arcs are excellent, the battles are (finally) challenging, and the Pokémon we (re)encounter are exciting. Just like the base game, it owes one decision or another and numerous (and serious) technical problems its status as a mandatory and timeless experience. But if you are fans of Pokémon, and have already proven that you can enjoy the joy of this generation, despite everything that is irritating and frustrating here, then it is worth taking this ultimate dive into the world of Paldea.

7 / 10.0 - Fae Farm
Dec 21, 2023

Not exactly innovative or amazing, Fae Farm is a great farming simulator for those looking for a relaxing game. With a region rich in biomes to discover, plenty of variety in activities to fill our time and a story that, despite being mediocre, serves as a great excuse to interact with the various basic components of Fae Farm.

The value of a WarioWare is measured by the eccentricity and fun of its video games and, in this regard, WarioWare: Move It! comes out at the top. In the various levels of this entry in the series, you will find yourself constantly changing positions and contorting yourself to achieve countless objectives that are as unpredictable as they are hilarious, an experience highly recommended for anyone willing to squeeze the juice out of this title. However, the narrative glue that connects and justifies the minigames does not reflect this inventiveness, and the extra content does not have the diversity and appeal of its predecessors.

Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is a game with quality, but with very little ambition. It refines some of the gameplay that comes from several previous titles, further expands the range of playable characters, and offers an original Boruto story that is better than the most optimistic of expectations. But it disappoints tremendously with the lack of love and care it puts into its rather incomplete Naruto story mode, which is nothing more than a series of copies/pastes of past games. There is quality here, but it is a somewhat frustrating celebration of one of the best manga/animes of recent times. It could perfectly be the ultimate Ultimate Ninja Storm experience, but it's just another cobblestone – and one of those poorly placed ones that causes the most distracted to trip over it.

6.5 / 10.0 - Super Mario RPG
Dec 12, 2023

Super Mario RPG is an excellent example of why developers' remakes that reshape and, for some fans, “adulterate” the original experience. This conservative relaunch exposes an adventure rendered archaic by time, unable to escape direct comparisons with its spiritual and effective successors and to come out on top in them for once. Not without new features, the adjustments made in this remake orbit around the major problems of this RPG instead of addressing them. Without the substantial changes that Square's source material deserves, the game's positives are tarnished by the frustratingly easy combat and the uninteresting, disjointed story and world. Ultimately, Super Mario RPG is an obvious recommendation for fans of the original version and for anyone who wants to discover a little piece of Mario's history and his first steps in the genre; Since the global experience is so ambivalent, I don't dare go any further.

Although Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master doesn’t convey exactly the same idea as its spiritual predecessor, that doesn’t mean it lags behind it. This title offers fun for hours on end, with an incredibly satisfying hint of creativity and the possibility of replayability is always a good approach in a management and construction game.
