I wish I could recommend Ever 17 - The Out of Infinity to you with all my heart. Its story is excellent and mesmerizing, featuring fascinating revelations that are as bold today as they were twenty years ago, and its presentation and accessibility are better than ever. However, I can only do so with a glaring disclaimer: for all its positive additions, the newest version of the game has a nauseating dose of foreshadowing, which lessens the impact of its biggest twists. Ever 17 doesn't live and die by its surprises, but its brilliance isn't as splendid without them.

Once we overcame its grating romantic clichés, we found Never 7 - The End of Infinity to have an intriguing plot filled with stimulating themes that linger in our minds long after the credits roll. Combining thought-provoking concepts with a calmer and more detached setting than its successors, Never 7 retains a unique charm that keeps it captivating even 20 years later, despite being noticeably inferior in scope and memorability. However, this remaster would have benefited from a more refined English localization, deeper graphical enhancements, and the inclusion of the exclusive TIPS entries from the PSP version.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is the best version of this Wii classic… by default. Nearly 15 years later, it's still a delight to overcome its challenging levels, find its optional collectibles, and appreciate its rich three-dimensional worlds — especially now that we can do so at 1080p60FPS with traditional controls. However, a 2D platformer of this caliber deserved a more refined port, one that features a more ambitious graphical update and doesn't introduce new issues to the experience, from frame rate drops to severe setbacks in cooperative mode.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle feels like a lost volume of the iconic archaeologist's adventures, rescuing all the cogs defining a Jones adventure and reconciling them expertly to build a legitimate sequel to his best films. In addition to the notable reverence for the source material evident in the script and technical components, MachineGames delivers many fascinating open areas, exciting to discover both for their ingenious configuration and distribution of secrets and the extremely rich historical subtext ubiquitous to all our discoveries. The mission of adapting Indiana Jones for video games was not easy, but MachineGames was up to the task.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a natural and triumphant evolution of the 20 years of games in the saga, which in no way shows that it was assisted by a new developer. The puzzles and combat capture the series' supreme fun and magic, and the story and presentation propel it to new heights. It feels like this was the grand goal Mario & Luigi always aimed to achieve, but was previously made impossible by the inferior scope and hardware of the past: a game unrestrained in its sincere joy, in which flaws like the languid initial pacing are eventually silenced by the polish and charm that permeates our journey through Concordia.

The Nintendo Switch was already home to the definitive experiments Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., and now you can say the same about Mario Party. Super Mario Party Jamboree has enough qualities to validate dozens of marketing platitudes: it is the biggest Mario Party and, in aspects such as board selection and modes, it is the best Mario Party. More than admiring the quality, quantity and modernism of its content and features, the fun and rollercoaster of emotions they provide is commendable, in a mandatory experience for local multiplayer that will delight Greeks and Trojans - whether young or old, whether new to the series or longtime fans.

"Don't change a winning team" is the great mantra of Nikoderiko: The Magical World. Niko and Luna's adventure may be exaggeratedly faithful to Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot, but when its inspirations are excellent and the execution is so neat, the result is necessarily a fun experience tailor-made for platform game lovers, with professional level designs, lots of secrets to find, a magnificent soundtrack by David Wise and a level of graphics and camera dynamism difficult to find in its contemporaries. The cost to be paid was the formation of its own identity, in a title that only goes against the tide to collide with small icebergs.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is nothing short of a brilliant celebration of the series. Recapturing the structure of the classic games while transcending it with the innovations of the newer open-world adventures, this adventure combines the best of both worlds. Its familiarity is used to catch us off guard with its exotic and refined exploration. Zelda's debut as a protagonist was a long time coming, and a few growing pains and missteps in her dungeons don't undermine how triumphant it is.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition does exactly what it sets out to do: give the average player a taste of what speedrunning is all about, and provide them with a sense of achievement and mastery over NES classics. It doesn't do much more, showing complacency in the superfluous extra modes, in the refusal to revamp the 13 classics it includes, and in the lack of interest in celebrating speedrunning culture or even the championships that birthed the game. This is a step backwards from NES Remix with humble ambitions, not reflected in the price of a proposal that could very well be a bonus on the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD may not have the immersive atmosphere, memorable humanoid ghosts and surprising sequences of the other games in the series, but it offers any Nintendo Switch owner an addictive experience of exploration and combat against otherworldly beings, with a deeply portable design that makes it perfect for consoles like the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. I'm not telling you anything new if you've already experienced this campaign on the 3DS, but that's because there's nothing new to say. Aside from the indispensable accommodations for the game to run on current hardware and a respectable improvement in presentation, this adventure has been ported to Nintendo's hybrid console under a glass dome, and there's no argument to win over those who still own Nintendo's last portable console.

Splashing through SCHiM's stunning levels, watching its simple, but effective and human story, and absorbing its promising and ingenious elements, I believed that I would find in this indie an experience to praise and rub in the faces of friends and readers at every imaginable opportunity. And I would have found it, if I hadn't reached the credits without finding the glue that would bind all these components together: inventive and structured level segments, capable of squeezing exciting puzzles and platforming challenges from all these pieces, and preventing the gameplay from becoming an automatic and, occasionally, boring process.

20 years after its release, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year remains a brilliant surprise: it's surprising how much its adventures differ from each other and from Mario's standards, it's surprising how impressive the combat is after so long, and it's surprising how the adventure is pure fun at every step. Well, not all of them; unfortunately, there are still a good dose of backtracking that hinders the campaign. But the truth is that in this remake, which brings a complete and beautiful audiovisual remodeling and countless adjustments to the experience, a measured cut of these time-wasters is the biggest shortcoming we can point out.

If there's one game that's prodigiously multifaceted, it's Chicory: A Colorful Tale. There are no big "buts" to raise here; this indie project has something to offer every player - whether it's gifting those looking for a feel-good experience with a peaceful world full of warm activities and deep customization potential, or offering a polished adventure and exploration of impostor syndrome to those looking for a more structured, traditional and memorable journey.

Where we could see a genuine and enthusiastic recommendation, we ended up finding “just” a solid option to spend two or three hours. With a prosaic plot and fun but basic combat, Rose & Collection is a “diamond in the rough”, a solid base to snap and cry for more, which leaves us with a bittersweet reflection on the number of possible directions to take the narrative potential, ironic and mechanical in addition to the already competent half-league on display.

Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass appeared to be a guaranteed victory for Nintendo, after the developers of the shooter series discovered the perfect formula for this style of content in the previous game. However, a respectable search for a new direction and format for the solo campaign culminated in a gigantic drop in the quality and quantity of content, in practically all aspects - and the inclusion of Inkopolis Plaza does little or nothing to dampen it. Still, I'd be lying if I said that playing Side Order wasn't fun; Even though the merit comes mainly from the solid base game, the novelty factor and an irresistible experimentation component help to ensure our fun in an adventure, otherwise, with extremely obvious flaws.

Another Code: Recollection is not just a remake, it is a passionate liposuction that aims to make Another Code: Two Memories and Another Code R: Journey into Lost Memories their best versions. The world of Ashley Robbins was completely rebuilt, the puzzles were mostly replaced by fair, varied and appropriate alternatives and not even the story escaped some radical deviations from the original, surprisingly positive as a whole. The end result is an honest and unpretentious journey, perfect as an introduction to the genre and capable of delighting anyone who wants to solve mysteries while smelling the roses along the way.

Not exactly innovative or amazing, Fae Farm is a great farming simulator for those looking for a relaxing game. With a region rich in biomes to discover, plenty of variety in activities to fill our time and a story that, despite being mediocre, serves as a great excuse to interact with the various basic components of Fae Farm.

The value of a WarioWare is measured by the eccentricity and fun of its video games and, in this regard, WarioWare: Move It! comes out at the top. In the various levels of this entry in the series, you will find yourself constantly changing positions and contorting yourself to achieve countless objectives that are as unpredictable as they are hilarious, an experience highly recommended for anyone willing to squeeze the juice out of this title. However, the narrative glue that connects and justifies the minigames does not reflect this inventiveness, and the extra content does not have the diversity and appeal of its predecessors.

Super Mario RPG is an excellent example of why developers' remakes that reshape and, for some fans, “adulterate” the original experience. This conservative relaunch exposes an adventure rendered archaic by time, unable to escape direct comparisons with its spiritual and effective successors and to come out on top in them for once. Not without new features, the adjustments made in this remake orbit around the major problems of this RPG instead of addressing them. Without the substantial changes that Square's source material deserves, the game's positives are tarnished by the frustratingly easy combat and the uninteresting, disjointed story and world. Ultimately, Super Mario RPG is an obvious recommendation for fans of the original version and for anyone who wants to discover a little piece of Mario's history and his first steps in the genre; Since the global experience is so ambivalent, I don't dare go any further.

With an anemic minigame selection and insufficient depth to diversify gameplay, Everybody 1-2 Switch! completely exhausts its appeal in two or three hours. On the current supreme console for local multiplayer, this proposal is unable to hold a candle to the countless superior alternatives present in the vast Nintendo Switch catalogue, which is a shame given that it is, at its limited core, an accessible and intuitive experience for everyone and more.
