MKAU Gaming's Reviews

Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril is a game out of its era but that does not mean it is to be seen as a bad thing. #8Bit Legit is a group that wants to keep the retro games alive and I look forward to seeing what games they work on next. As mad as I got with the game, particularly regarding hitboxes, it did keep me driving to want to beat sections for my own personal satisfaction, but it does feel harder than it should be.

One thing Rebellion does well across all of their games is the level designs, and this is another perfect example. As you travel across the war-torn European locations, the occult references are heavily present. If you keep your eyes out, you may be able to find some sneaky easter eggs, from typewriters that will print out references from classic horror movies to evil dolls that haunt the player, leaning towards a very Annabelle-like appearance. There are also collectables to find and shoot, like comic books and zombie hands that dance around.

9 / 10.0 - Citizen Sleeper
May 13, 2022

The plot is the shining star of this game as you interact with a plethora of characters all developed with incredible backstories and details. The characters have their own unique personalities and charms, all laid out by expert futuristic writing. It is so beautifully pulled together through many twisting tangents that this space pirate-like community is very reminiscent of the cult class tales of ‘Cowboy Bebop’. Each cycle brings new and exciting revelations in the story.

This game has me super excited. I really am enjoying it, and as much as I do feel it is amazing, I feel it could still be better. This has probably been the thing I wracked my brain over the most as good and fun as it is, there was always something missing. Something not quite complete. Even now I am having trouble putting my finger on it. It is like every aspect that you could rate this game is only just off a perfect score. Maybe if it had a slightly bigger budget, or if it was backed by another studio or company that could have funded it more, I do not know that could have hurt it.

9 / 10.0 - Sniper Elite 5
May 26, 2022

Sniper Elite 5 is the latest installment from the team over at Rebellion. Set in Nazi-occupied France and taking place just before the events of D-Day, you once again play as Karl Fairburne, where he finds himself sneaking past the Atlantic Wall to rendezvous with the French Resistance. Sniper Elite 5 is easily the best entry in the series. Hats off to the team over at Rebellion for sticking to what works and building on an already amazing and fun franchise. If you’re a Sniper Elite fan, this latest entry won’t disappoint.

This game is quite enjoyable although I started getting a little bored after a while as I had found a way using certain characters to be able to set my defenses and then do nothing as they could not even mussel their way to my crystals. Getting to the very last missions added some greater challenges which snapped me out of my lucid state, which was nice, but I almost gave up on it because of the lack of challenge so I’m glad I didn’t.

8 / 10.0 - Card Shark
Jun 2, 2022

Card Shark has an impressive orchestral soundtrack throughout. It is an original score created by Andrea Boccadoro, and it is a great addition to the world of Card Shark, really hitting the 18th-century theme perfectly. The controls for Card Shark are easy to pick up and each mini-game will have different inputs to be performed. When you are learning a new cheating skill, you’ll have to successfully complete it several times before it will let you move on, but input prompts will always be displayed during games so no need for a picture-perfect memory.

9 / 10.0 - Diablo Immortal
Jun 9, 2022

The game runs just as well on the PC as it does on the mobile, and the ease of putting down the mobile and jumping straight back where I left off on the PC was a massive thumbs up from me. The game felt like I was playing any other Diablo game, which we have had to pay for in the past.

9 / 10.0 - The Quarry

A great visual experience is one thing, but combine that with top-notch voice acting, and you can almost feel the emotions and the feelings of the characters that are portrayed in this epic interactive horror experience.

6 / 10.0 - REDO!
Jun 28, 2022

Playing through I never really fully understood what was happening, or why I was the last human alive. There were diaries around with information but most of them seemed like nonsense to me. Eventually, I found myself at the end of the game with questions and feeling inconclusive. The gameplay itself was enjoyable and the world was fun to explore even without a map most of the time, the challenge will keep you on your toes.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes delivers on the promise of an all-out war with the added bonus of making you care about those around you. With options to make the game as streamlined, easy, or as punishing as you like, multiple House storylines to go back and revisit, and even potential romance options to explore, I could find myself coming back week after week to see what else I could discover.

The puzzle portion of the game is a major part that will have you backtracking a lot to progress. It can halt the progress of the game with how long it takes to solve something or find a one-room out of many within the hotel. The puzzles can range from an easy solution to pre-planning, so definitely have your thinking caps at the ready.

Fall Guys Season 1 is a great place to unite the expanded player base, and with the light-hearted nature of the game, it is still nice to reap some rewards even when you aren’t collecting crowns. For some silly nights that can turn sweaty at any moment, I have had plenty of laughs and find it easy to pick up and play even after a few days off.

9 / 10.0 - F1 22
Jul 1, 2022

F1 22 is for all the die-hard fans of F1. You will be surprised if you played previous titles with how well the cars handle now and how much quicker you can get around the track. The supercars being added into the game does spice things up a little by being able to drive something else apart from the F1 or F2 cars.

7.5 / 10.0 - Gamedec
Jul 1, 2022

For such an indie endeavour, Anshar Studios have created a cracker of an RPG adventure. While not perfect and restricted by things a Triple-A title might be able to access readily, ‘Gamedec’ had me logging in to the system over and over again to delve into this not-so-distant future where crimes online may affect reality.

Outriders: Worldslayer is great for the end game as the rewards are worth the grind, though the story is short and to the point with no side quests at all to confuse the end goal. Still having some bugs and issues that were there at the launch of the core game is still a slight disappointment as they have had plenty of time to iron these niggling issues out already since the first time around these issues outright made me stop playing it and was the reason a monitor was destroyed by a coworker. I do hope they are still working towards fixing the issues that have plagued the game. The price tag of the DLC is a bit high in my personal opinion, I would’ve expected the amount of content given for half the price asked for.

In the past, Capcom has tried to bring their lesser-known titles to modern consoles but with little success. This latest attempt which was announced alongside the reveal of ‘Street Fighter 6’, has been its best yet. Hopefully, if this compilation sells well, it’ll encourage them to think of some possible sequels or even make a second compilation with all their 3D fighters. Until then, there is so much to enjoy and appreciate in Capcom Fighting Collection.

8.5 / 10.0 - Arcadeggedon
Jul 6, 2022

Arcadegeddon was a really fun and enjoyable experience, solo or with friends, or even matching up with random other players and making new friends. A nice variety of weapons and biomes, with a great and upbeat soundtrack, really makes the game feel alive. With a few occasional crashes, I still had a blast playing the game and will definitely be playing more. I strongly recommend this game for a great co-op experience with friends.

9 / 10.0 - Stray
Jul 25, 2022

This is a game I didn’t know I needed to play until I did. I have even watched a few streamers play it, just to see if they were as entranced as I was. Please don’t discredit the story. It is quite tragic, but it’s wholesome once you start to uncover the truth. It’s a lot more in-depth than I initially thought it would be and definitely worth the playthrough. Everyone should play this, and even though personally it will not be my pick for game of the year, there are so many other aspects of the game that are award-worthy, and they are well earned.
