Peter Taylor's Reviews

I'm a thirty-something dad who works in IT with a sideline in gaming reviews. I mostly review XBox One and PC Games for the wonderful outlet that is Jump Dash Roll.

Veterans of the genre may find many of the puzzles straightforward but it's worth picking up if you haven't already.

A huge step in the right direction but is a tough on newcomers who may be put off by its complexity.

Elite: Dangerous is a superb game with plenty of room for growth and maturation.

Whilst there's some entertainment to be had it's certainly lacking in high seas high jinks.

Starcraft II shows that even in the modern era there's still a place for an isometric RTS.

What it does it does well there's plenty of replay value however the issues with crashes are a concern.

8 / 10.0 - Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal is far from perfect but thanks to its historical setting it is a breath of fresh air for the franchise.

It may not have the WRC cars and courses but it's easily the best rally simulation available.

A beautiful game that rewards those who lose themselves in the story and the world that Stoic Studio has weaved.

7 / 10.0 - Stellaris
Jun 6, 2016

Stellaris is a game that begs you to explore but with erratic sector AI and trait conflicting win conditions it is a confusing and at times unexciting game to play.

Despite clunky combat and an unremarkable story Mirror's Edge Catalyst star still shines thanks to excellent community features.

Trials of the Blood Dragon is a bit hit and miss, some of the gimmicks work while other frustrate and fall entirely flat. Whilst die-hard Trials fans will have preferred to have had a more pure experience one can only hope this is just a way of keep the series in gamers consciousness.

Overall then TransOcean 2 is a distinctly average game. It’s not standout in its genre nor is it a weak link and at its purest it’s a solid economic simulator if a touch lightweight.

4 / 10.0 - 7 Days to Die
Jul 19, 2016

7 Days to Die had the potential to be something impressive but with frequent glitches and game freezes it falls well short of being the game it could so easily be.

5 / 10.0 - Battleship
Aug 18, 2016

Battleship is exactly what you'd expect it to be and whilst Clash at Sea provides a bit more to the game than just playing straight up classic it falls short due to it being, well, rather boring. It's almost unforgivable that you can't skip the animations along with AI turns and with a seemingly minute player base the likelihood of getting an online match seems slim. If you really do have a hankering to play Battleship my best suggestion is to buy or recover the physical game and play that instead.

Sword Coast Legends is a decent game with a compelling story and some rather excellent voice active. It's brought down heavily, however, by excruciatingly long load screens and the chance of hitting a game ending bug.

6 / 10.0 - Assetto Corsa
Sep 9, 2016

When racing you versus the track Assetto Corsa is hands down the best available simulator. Venture beyond this, however, and there's disappointment to be had at every turn.

9 / 10.0 - Tadpole Treble
Sep 21, 2016

Tadpole Treble is clearly a passion project by the developers BitFinity and this shines through in every aspect. It's rare that you come across a game with educational undertones that doesn't instantly come across as one. Moreover one so wonderfully presented as this.

Rise of Iron is a rather fitting end for Destiny and is worth the purchase for those who've followed the game thus far. The changes made by Bungie over the course of its lifespan have made the game a much more fun place to be. There are still the old drawbacks of the grind for gear but given that it's something so integral to the game it's not surprising this hasn't changed.
