I'm a thirty-something dad who works in IT with a sideline in gaming reviews. I mostly review XBox One and PC Games for the wonderful outlet that is Jump Dash Roll.
4 / 10.0 - 7 Days to Die
Jul 19, 2016

7 Days to Die had the potential to be something impressive but with frequent glitches and game freezes it falls well short of being the game it could so easily be.

4 / 10.0 - Coast Guard

Whilst there's some entertainment to be had it's certainly lacking in high seas high jinks.

On paper, Tennis World Tour was supposed to give us a spiritual successor to Top Spin Tennis. Unfortunately what we've ended up with is something that's far from perfect and whilst some tennis fans may still pick it up they should do so knowing that they're in for a frustrating ride. It's likely we'll never know why things ended up as they did here but without some serious post-release patching it's a hard game to recommend.

4 / 10.0 - Extinction
Apr 29, 2018

There is so much potential in Extinction but it's all wasted. It's such a shame to see a game with some seriously fun ideas turn into something that is such a drudgery to play.

Sword Coast Legends is a decent game with a compelling story and some rather excellent voice active. It's brought down heavily, however, by excruciatingly long load screens and the chance of hitting a game ending bug.

Whilst Cyanide have created a faithful reproduction of the great race, what it brings to the table can hardly be differentiated from the previous versions. Niche as this title may be, I suspect only the absolute die-hards will be picking this one up.

There's not much below the surface of Planet Cube: Edge should you find its difficulty infuriating. The intense difficulty feels like a shallow way to extend your playtime but if you're like me, you'll find yourself reluctant to keep trying once you've died in the same spot for the twentieth time.‍

The Train Simulator series has been showing its age for a long time now. Whilst Dovetail's continued support is admirable it is perhaps time that ties were cut and its energies diverted elsewhere. Whether that's into Train Sim World 2 or an actual successor to Train Simulator is immaterial, but what is clear is that there's not enough bondo in the world to paste over the cracks that are starting to show.

The world of professional cycling was never going to be an easy sport to translate to a game. Cyanide Studios have made this even harder by making a game that seems to appeal only to the sport's keenest of fans at the expense of educating and rewarding the curiosity of new fans to the sport.‍

5 / 10 - Fallout 76
Dec 5, 2018

Hidden beneath the bugs and the controversy lies a game with great potential. As it stands, Fallout 76 is an okay multiplayer survival game that needs some serious work.

5 / 10.0 - Battleship
Aug 18, 2016

Battleship is exactly what you'd expect it to be and whilst Clash at Sea provides a bit more to the game than just playing straight up classic it falls short due to it being, well, rather boring. It's almost unforgivable that you can't skip the animations along with AI turns and with a seemingly minute player base the likelihood of getting an online match seems slim. If you really do have a hankering to play Battleship my best suggestion is to buy or recover the physical game and play that instead.

Super Dungeon Bros isn't an awful game but it does itself no favours at the same time. If you manage to convince three friends to pick it up it can be fun, otherwise you may find yourself disappointed.

6 / 10.0 - Gravel
Mar 9, 2018

Gravel is entertains for the most part but outside the career mode the game lacks longevity. Coupled with some odd omissions such as leaderboards it's a competent racer and not much else.

Whilst lacking in the depth that some other management simulations offer, Pro Cycling Manager still does a good job of transferring the technical world of pro cycling into a competent if unremarkable game.

Tokyo 42, despite its faults, is a fun game to play but ultimately feels like a massive missed opportunity.

Whilst it's held back by irritating music and the lack of a stash, Pixel Heroes is still an enjoyable wee game.

When compared with its inspiration, LIMBO, it falls drastically which makes recommending it difficult - especially given its current, buggy, state.

The tower defence-style twist to RTS is fun but it gets old, fast, much like the rest of Siegecraft Commander.

The lack of improvements in key areas are a worry but FHM3 is a solid if reserved update to the franchise.

Overall then TransOcean 2 is a distinctly average game. It’s not standout in its genre nor is it a weak link and at its purest it’s a solid economic simulator if a touch lightweight.
