Brett Claxton's Reviews
If you’re after a racer to play on the Nintendo Switch that won’t break the bank, that feels a bit different, then give Fast RMX a shot. It’s a lot of fun and has a lovely style, which is matched by its gameplay.
If you’re a fan of strategy and management games then, at its core, This is the Police delivers an experience that should satisfy you. The story is dark and broody with some nice voice-acting moments in parts and some great beats, even if they are cliché. The way it deals with serious political issues in its late 1980’s fake American setting is often a little too on the nose, but it gives the player the freedom to tackle the issue as they see fit. It has a unique art-style that helps it stand out and, even if you don’t stick around until the very end, there are still hours of entertainment to be had.
Fated: The Silent Oath may be a fairly clunky game, but there's a lot of nice elements that sequels could easily build upon. Let's just hope they get the chance to.
During the times Has-Been Heroes clicks you’ll find yourself having fun with it. If you can stick with it through at least one complete run then the game does open a bit and begin to add some much needed variety. Unfortunately the game also has too many hindrances in its gameplay that will put many gamers off getting that far.
It’s not without its flaws, and hopefully some of them will be ironed out in the future, but even without a patch there’s still a charm to Mr. Shifty.
I wanted to love Rain World. It’s an admirable game that tries many interesting things, but it also puts up too many barriers that deter gamers from truly enjoying it. There’s an interesting world to explore, but most will lack the patience to do so.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix is one of the best remaster packages around. Even to this day the series firmly stands the test of time and it’s great having so much of it in one place.
There’s plenty on offer in Puyo Puyo Tetris and it looks great whilst showing it all off. It’s not just a great modern upgrade of one puzzle game, but two. It may be the kind of thing that looks crazy on paper but somehow Sonic Team have made it work.
What Remains of Edith Finch is a great looking game that will be talked about for years to come. Its handling of a usually dark subject matter is delicate and the game mechanics make it stand out in the walking simulator genre.
Even if you're not a Star Trek fan this is still a game worth considering, especially if you're after a social virtual reality experience. Just try not to become a redshirt.
The Silver Case is an intriguing package that provides an insight in to the early works of Suda51, one of gaming’s more interesting personalities. The game might’ve aged but its quality still shines through.
If you’re a fan of story driven adventure games with a focus on dialogue and problem solving, then Dreamfall Chapters is a gem even if you’ve not played the series before. If you’re not though, it’s unlikely to be the game that will make you change your mind.
There are some nice visual flourishes as you play through it, but it’s all ruined by multiple terrible control schemes on a system that just doesn’t seem to have the hardware to make it a competent game.
If you've never played a Yakuza game before then Yakuza Kiwami is a great place to start.
If you’re after a virtual reality experience that is a bit different and won’t take ages to complete then Superhot VR is definitely that.
Just as fun to play single player as it is multiplayer
Shadow of the Tomb Raider feels like they've perfected the formula created in 2013.
NFL Madden 19 is a very fun sports game, even if you’re not the biggest fan of American Football.
Football is a game of two halves. It’s been that way for a while and, for a long time, the FIFA series has offered a fun rendition of the sport in a digital world. With FIFA 19 they look to add a bit more to it, with a level of customisation to the games not seen before in the series.
Battlefield V is a beautiful looking game with a lot of potential. Hopefully the additions and tweaks that happen in the future will make it even better.
