Overall, while not quite at the level of its predecessor in terms of either length or script, Professor Lupo: Ocean still delivers a great puzzle solving adventure with water physics that won't make you cry, challenging yet reasonable puzzles, and a slew of bonus objectives to keep you entertained. There are plenty of puzzles, new monsters to avoid, and it was a great time to be had.

Overall, Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate is a great roguelike, albeit a rather tough roguelike. There is plenty of variety to be had, and the difficulty isn't artificial. With a wide breadth of items and effects to manage, some fun mini games, and stages that don't drag on too long, Shiren is definitely a really fun roguelike for those familiar with the genre. Those new to the scene may be in for a bit of a challenge though, as Shiren doesn't pull many punches. So buckle up and try to change the fate of a poor village girl in this title that rolled rather well on the old D10.

8.5 / 10.0 - Mad Rat Dead
Dec 1, 2020

Overall, Mad Rat Dead is the probably the best, as well as only, "Rhythm Platformer" that I'm aware of. It has a kickin' sound track, the gameplay is smooth, the graphics are clean and crisp, and the storyline is strangely endearing. Yeah, Mad Rat Dead may be one of the single weirdest genre mashups I've seen since I played a freeware puzzle/fighting game (that one didn't go over so well), but hey, apparently NIS know was they're doing, cuz this weird genre chimera turned out not discordant, but rocking in style. If you're in the groove for a rhythm game, or just are interested in jamming with a new platformer style, Mad Rat Dead certainly can't be beat.

8 / 10.0 - ScourgeBringer
Nov 24, 2020

Overall, Scourgebringer is a wonderful addition to the world of rogue lite games. It has a wonderful fast-paced feeling to it that makes those who want more action to take it speedier, while you still have the option to slow down if needed. The upgrade system is lenient enough that you don't feel like you aren't making any progress, and each individual room that makes up the sprawling labyrinth of kill boxes is reasonably constructed so as to not screw you over while still making clearing the room challenging. Scourgebringer is a great choice for anyone looking for a little bit of fast paced action, or a nice helping of pain that isn't quite absusive like Dead Cells or Dark Souls.

8.5 / 10.0 - Disc Room
Nov 17, 2020

In summary, Disc Room is a great title that really brings the "timed survival" reminiscent of some more classic games back to life. With colorful environments, interesting region design, many different types of discs to avoid, and some neat abilities to change up your play style, Disc Room certainly provides a solid experience. With added gameplay value in the form of extra challenge rooms and hard mode, there is a great deal in terms of content for what you pay for. As a switch title, I definitely appreciated how you can pick up a room or two at a time for only a few minutes between doing chores, or waiting for the laundry, or while on public transit. It's fun and simple, and that's exactly what it needs to be.

Overall, I have to say the The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk was a really fun delve into a funny cast in the style of a Dungeons and Dragon campaign where the storyline isn't at all serious. It's full of wacky characters, funny situations, and a combat system that doesn't make you regret getting in a fight. Colourful flavour text is abundant, and each character has their own role that feels like it compliments the party well. Naheulbeuk is as fun to play as it is hard to pronounce.

Overall, Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties are titles that are tough as Orichalcon, but full of flavour and love. These games are for masochists through and through, but are still fun even if you are using more than half your Prinny lives. The gameplay has held up well, and although difficult, it was a lot of fun, even if it feels like smashing your face against a brick wall at times. Prinny 1 and 2 are hard, but full of character. If you think you've got what it takes to triumph over the levels designed to melt through 1,000 lives, check out Prinny 1 and 2.

8 / 10.0 - Moero Crystal H
Sep 24, 2020

Overall, Moero Crystal H is an incredibly solid dungeon crawler with a couple of interesting gimmick mini games and a well implemented battle system. While there may be some consternation over the gratuitous fan service and sex appeal for the game, it certainly has more than enough to hold up with gameplay alone as well. If you don't have an issue with the high amount of fan service, at its core Moero Crystal H is a really enjoyable dungeon crawler with a wide cast of usable party members, interesting dungeon design, and a good soundtrack to complement it.

Overall, Aokana is a really engaging story with characters that truly grow on you the more you see them. While there may be a few hiccups with some finicky controller options, there isn't any other issues "gameplay" wise. The story is entertaining and rather fresh as it has no gimmicks used as a fall back, there are tons of graphics for displaying both the sport matches as well as characters, and the vast majority of the cast are truly interesting to watch interact with other people. While these types of stories are generally pretty subjective, if you even have an inkling of picking this title up, at the very least you shouldn't come out disappointed.

7.8 / 10.0 - Giraffe and Annika
Sep 9, 2020

Overall, Giraffe and Annika is a bit of a weird experience. On the one hand, it feels very unrefined. Not unfinished by any means, just not polished to the degree it could be. On the other hand, it has a very solid grasp of the fundamental requirements for a 3D platformer and rhythm game, that somehow manages to mesh them quite decently. It's short, sweet, and relaxing, but also a little janky at times, and can get a little frustrating if you're used to a tighter control scheme. Honestly, Giraffe and Annika isn't going to appeal to everyone, particularly given that it feels geared to a younger audience but can pack the difficulty for those a little older than the narrative would seem to be geared for. If your looking for a nice little relaxing game as an offhand title, Giraffe and Annika may be something you want to pick up.

Overall, while I'm actually quite a big fan of the series in general, there is hardly any way I can really justify suggesting this game to anyone given the lack of polish, content, and effective gameplay given the price. Is It Wrong to Try and Pick Up Girls in the Dungeon? Familia Myth Infinite Combate is a huge disappointment, and unless it drops to five or ten bucks on sale, I wouldn't consider it.

I highly recommend taking a look into Death End Re;Quest if you are a fan of JRPGs or Corpse Party, as I doubt you will be disappointed. Just be aware that the psychological thriller aspect can have some really not PG friendly scenes, so please heed the disclaimers.

Summary Ultimately this feels like something you would find off of Newgrounds a few years ago, just a little longer than normal. As a game, it certainly functions, although not particularly well or with much depth. Did I have fun? Surprisingly yes. I've played worse. I've played a lot worse. Unfortunately, that doesn't particularly allow me to call this "good". It functions as a game, and it accomplished the main reason for existing, but it doesn't swing too much in any other direction, whether good or bad.

While Destroy All Humans! is a great nostalgia trip for me and I really enjoyed replaying the game, in the end it does feel like I'm replaying that PS2 title just with some enhanced graphics. While it doesn't really feel 15 years old, there are certainly moments where you question whether an improved touch would've been better for some aspects. It isn't bad, but it isn't the best it can be.

Willy Morgan is a wonderful throwback of a game that will appeal to those looking for a piece of their past as a nostalgic trip, as well as those breaking into the point and click adventure scene. With puzzles that don't make you want to flip tables, a clearly defined cast of characters, and some well done visuals, Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is definitely a title that can show its potential. The ending set up the possibility of a sequel, and I can tell you now I would love to see this series take off with more title to its name.

8 / 10.0 - Necrobarista
Aug 10, 2020

Overall, Necrobarista is something I desperately wanted to enjoy much more than I did. The graphics were great, the animations well done, the soundtrack was lovely, and most of the characters were great, but the story just felt way too choppy, like someone ripped a bunch of pages out of the middle of a book. Yeah, it's still readable, and yes you can still understand what's going on, but it certainly doesn't feel complete. If anything, I'd wait until this goes on sale to pick up, because you'll pretty much be left just wanting more by the end, which isn't something I can justify picking up for a full novel experience. That being said, what was there was excellent, it just needs a bit more...fleshing out (necromancy puns, heh).

Ultimately, Void Terrarium can be tough, but reasonable, which even my luck is the most I can ask out of roguelikes anymore. The characters are cute, the styles mesh well together, and honestly? Having a "human tamogatchi" was actually pretty fun. Hopefully Void tRrLM(); appeals to you as much as it did to me.

In conclusion, Warhammer: 40,000 Mechanicus feels more like a spiced up novel than a game in many aspects. While the clunky menus and occasional menu interactions may deter newer players or those less patient, you do get used to it after awhile. What I really enjoyed, however, was the banter between characters. Definitely not for everyone, but this just might scratch that turn-based SRPG itch you've been looking to scratch.

8.5 / 10.0 - Keen: One Girl Army
Jul 15, 2020

Overall, Keen: One Girl Army is short, but a lot of fun with some really solid mechanics and well done puzzle building. With some quirky aspects yet simply gameplay, Keen is likely to give you a great puzzle solving, zombie slicing adventure. With plenty of hidden objects and bonus puzzles in the temples, Keen is a really good addition to your puzzle game library.

8 / 10.0 - CrossCode
Jul 10, 2020

Overall, despite a few drawbacks and the infernal botanics menu, CrossCode is a really solid title that made me habitually forget I was playing it by myself. The characters are all pretty interesting and unique, the dungeons and puzzles are challenging but not impossible, and the combat is smooth. While there is a lot of menu lag and some of the quests can get a little frustrating, ultimately the latter is something you have to deal with in any RPG, and the former can be generally ignored by staying out of certain menu features. CrossCode is definitely worth checking out, and now that it's on the Switch, you can bring it with you too. If you're any fan of .Hack// or Trials of Mana, take a look into CrossCode, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
