Pokémon: Let's Go's nostalgic charm and interactive gameplay will have both newcomers and returning trainers hooked as they explore the beloved Kanto region. Let's Go mashes together these two different styles of Pokémon game into one streamlined format, and despite some slight annoyances, these remakes provide an intimate take on the classic Pokémon journey, especially when played with the Poké Ball Plus accessory. If you're looking for a refreshing take on the Pokémon RPG, then this one may keep you invested until you catch 'em all. It probably won't take long though.
NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is an extremely fun and competitive game at its core, and with the publisher's history of terrible microtransactions, it's good to see a basketball game that's easy to pick up and enjoy without having to spend money. The game is generous with its in game currency which makes playing the game very rewarding, especially if you invest time in the game's improved Season Mode. If you're looking for a slightly silly, competitive basketball game to play online, this is definitely for you.
Bungie has done an excellent job in, not just creating enough content for the game's fourth season and start of the second year, but in reviving a game that stuttered after its initial launch. Whether you're glued to PvE or PvP, Forsaken caters for both players even with its fun and unique new Gambit mode and range of bounties across all current and previously introduced areas. The one problem I've found is that while the content is great, it can be a bit too grindy on the road to the Raid level requirement. That being said, we all wanted more content and got just that. If you're unsure about this game, don't be: Forsaken is the best that Destiny 2 has ever been.
Within it's ocean depths, there's plenty of fun to be found in coming back to Hungry Shark World every once in a while. The game's point system makes it competitive enough for players who want to beat their personal best score, but the game really puts emphasis on running the same stages with different sharks which can start to grind. So while the game itself is pretty fun, Hungry Shark is one of those games best played in short bursts.
I'm not going to lie, Guacamelee! 2 is easily one of the most fun games I've played this year and it's hard to fault it even at its most infuriatingly challenging moments. The game has incredible presentation, great level design and is just as good whether playing solo or in co-op. If you're looking for a light hearted Metroidvania or 2D platformer to play on the PS4, then you need Guacamelee! 2 in you life.
Despite its issues, All-Star racing is an original take on the kid-friendly kart racer which offers a wonderful selection of fruit themed content to keep both children and adults entertained. It might not get everything right, but it's a beautifully juicy start.
Whether you're a Sudoku enthusiast or a new player, Hexologic is a puzzle game that's easy to pick up and learn. If you're looking to pick your brains at clever numerical puzzles, this game will keep you busy with its wide selection. It may not be one to try and beat in one go, but it's definitely worth picking up if you like your Sudoku with a twist.
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is everything the first game should have been; it doesn't have to be “so bad it's good,” and it features some good honest fun at its core. A Legend Reborn is definitely one to pick up if you've missed the beat ‘em up genre and are fancying something with a modern twist.
Unravel Two is everything a sequel should be. It stays true to the original but adds co-op which allows you to play and experiment together as you find your path through the beautiful environments. Unravel was already a very enjoyable game, but with co-op feeling as natural in this game as it does, Unravel Two is a delightful playground for fans of puzzle platformers.
If you're after a 2.5D side-scrolling stunt game, the Urban Trial Playground is going to scratch that itch for you on Switch. Sure, it's riffing off the Trials series, but it's a fun and lengthy alternative that's a good fit for Nintendo's platform.
