Sleep Tight has some very interesting ideas, but unfortunately fails to captilise on them and falls into the depths of mediocrity.
Semblance is an astoundingly enjoyable puzzle game that never outstays its welcome.
Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion falls short of being a great game and lands squarely in the land of being okay. Despite its flaws it is an enjoyable RPG that would be a great entry point to the genre for younger children who might be a little put off by the more complex systems in other games.
MOTHERGUNSHIP gives you everything you expect from a FPS Bullet hell. Which is to say that there are a lot of bullets, both to dodge and to fire. It is a frenetic and chaotic shooter with a great crafting system that makes the whole thing feel like LEGO had an angry baby with Doom.
A short but enjoyable puzzle game that adds in new logic regularly in order to keep the challenge different as your progress. The visual style and the sound are both incredibly relaxing and both help to keep the experience engaging throughout.
It's a worthy successor to any of the old games, it is the game that Megaman fans have been waiting for, and quite simply it does what it does spectacularly.
As far as hybrid genres go, this is an interesting one.
Downward Spiral: Horus Station is a unique take on zero gravity that feels fairly true to what it would be like. The trouble is this makes for a dull experience when not in VR. While everything feels as though it fits well, the trouble is that the abhorrent camera speed makes the only real challenge looking at things. The combat isn't hard, but still manages to be frustrating. In VR the experience may well be completely different, but without that hook, the game is an easy pass.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr's final release feels better than it did in Early Access, through a mixture of added polish by Neocore and likely a dose of Stockholm Syndrome on my part. The dark aesthetic and relatively messy combat will likely turn those who aren't fans of Warhammer 40,000 away, but if you do like the universe and have people to play with, then the procedural generation and promise of ongoing support means that this is a game you can sink plenty of time into.
An enjoyable journey into better, more dinosaur filled times, that will keep you entertained throughout. The careful balancing acts that are required are demanding without being overwhelming and the dinosaurs look great.
Shape of the World isn't a bad game, it just never quite hits its stride in the way a game like this needs to.
An immense collection of classic fighting games that shows off just how good the Street Fighter series is. The games themselves are one thing, but the inclusion of the Museum mode allows you to learn so much about the series. Games are often said to be love letters, this is a love encyclopedia and is essential for fans of the series.
Pixeljunk Monsters 2 is a very solid entry in the tower defence genre. The little things it has changed make for some really interesting choices when it comes to tower placement and co-op play makes it much more replayable. Graphically the game is stunning in it's own way and will keep you invested in the tree-destroying, tower-building, funky-dancing gameplay as you progress through the increasingly tricky levels until the end. It suffers from the same issues prevalent in any TD game but is a solid entry nevertheless.
Moonlighter is an incredibly enjoyable jaunt through some interesting ideas and some fun fights. While the combat gets a little easy as you progress, the fun of watching money pour in as you play is immensely satisfying. It would be nice if there was more reason to play after completion as is normally the case with roguelites, but equally having an actual conclusion is a breath of fresh air for the genre. It is a lot of fun and one that will keep you entertained for a fair while if you want to sink your time into it.
Dark Souls Remastered is a solid reminder of the incredible strength of the original entry in the series. There are certainly some comforts lost by going back the start but the game is still incredible. Whether you have never played it before or you miss the good old days, this is a great remaster.
The third version of Hyrule Warriors is certainly the best version. The tweaks made to this version help it to be more enjoyable than the original and with all the DLC included, this is an incredible amount of content to work through. Worth playing if you love it, need a good co-op game, or haven't played it, but it won't win over any new fans.
The addition of new anomalies, leviathans, and gates to new systems Distant Stars does a great job of continuing the ongoing expansion of Stellaris. The game is an immensely enjoyable experience and the new features serve to give even more variety in each match.
Quarantine Circular is another brilliantly written game that will have you taking up different mind sets to get through it. It is at times charming, upsetting and inspiring and will have you playing it through to it's conclusion in one sitting without you realising.
