Austin Suther's Reviews

I'm from North Carolina and a 2018 graduate of UNCW. I like writing and I like gaming, so I combined my two passions. I also love to read fantasy.
9.5 / 10.0 - Age of Empires IV
Oct 25, 2021

Exciting civilizations, incredible attention to detail, and engrossing story campaigns makes for a game where it's impossible to not have a good time.

Combat lacks depth and the story mode goes through periods of inaction, but Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is nonetheless a well-made and entertaining anime action title.

9 / 10.0 - Severed Steel
Sep 27, 2021

Although it's a very brief experience, every single level sent adrenaline into my veins. If you can find a game that makes me feel as jazzed as Severed Steel, savor every moment.

The bare minimum was done to port El Shaddai: Ascesion of the Metatron over to PC, but 10 years later it's still an incredible journey.

6.5 / 10.0 - Necrobarista
Aug 26, 2021

The narrative dawdles around and fails to achieve much, and it doesn't run that well on the Switch either. The appeal here is in its visuals and soundtrack; otherwise, Necrobarista- Final Pour simply wasn't a captivating visual novel.

9.5 / 10.0 - The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City tells an immersive and incredible story. Combined with the beautiful city itself, the secrets of Modern Storyteller's first official release beg to be unraveled.

6.5 / 10.0 - Dark Deity

With technical issues and unexplained game systems, the clever map design and charming art can't make up for Dark Deity's glaring issues.

9.5 / 10.0 - New Pokémon Snap
May 12, 2021

New Pokemon Snap captures the magic of the Pokemon series with dazzling visuals and so much content in each level. It's just short of being perfect, were it not for a few small quirks.

5 / 10.0 - Battle Axe
May 1, 2021

On the surface, Battle Axe looks and sounds like an amazing retro throwback. When you dive into it, you'll find a lack of accessibility options and bland, uncompelling gameplay.

Monster Hunter Rise's new monsters and mechanics such as the wirebug make for a fresh but familiar experience. The story isn't anything special, but the game performs well and is as addicting as its predecessors.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a fantastic package that any Mario fan should own. Super Mario 3D World might not be the most unique Mario, but it sure is fun. With Bowser's Fury as an extra mode, it's a smash hit.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands' base experience offers a variety of excellent content through new zones and endgame content. The framework for a great stream of content is there, so for now, there's a lot to enjoy.

5 / 10.0 - Godfall
Nov 18, 2020

A disappointment in almost all areas besides combat and graphics, Godfall feels more like a next-generation showcase than anything else. A boatload of stats and unsubstantial loot are just some of Godfall's major problems.

There's not as many new Pokémon as I'd have liked, and two-thirds of the legendary hunt is lacking. But, with new features, tons of legendary Pokémon, and a cool new environment to explore, this is an expansion worth picking up.

9 / 10.0 - Ghostrunner
Oct 26, 2020

Ghostrunner is an action-packed cyberpunk adventure full of speedy action. Graphically speaking, Ghostrunner really feels like a next-generation experience. The level design and combat feel satisfying and well-done, although bosses could have been better.

Avoiding discs and dying a lot never felt so good with Disc Room. With plenty of different abilities and unique obstacles and zones, Disc Room is a tight package that is sure to satisfy.

Star Wars: Squadrons provides fulfilling and authentic gameplay, but fails in almost every other department. The story, map variety, and technical performance are subpar and keeps me from coming back.

All three of these games are representative of why Super Mario is such a great series. Though the ports for 64 and Sunshine have a few flaws, Galaxy feels absolutely perfect on the Switch.

Peril on Gorgon tells a dark and mature story that kept me enthralled once the ball got rolling. The asteroid itself is a fun area to explore and is rather sizable. The only downsides were the few side quests and underwhelming armor and weapons.
