I couldn't shake the feeling that Guerrilla Games had grander visions for Killzone: Shadowfall than what was shipped for the launch of the PS4. Despite it being visually stunning and a ton of fun to play, a lot of it feels like it missed on a bigger opportunity for the franchise.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is right up there with the best games in the series. Building a game entirely around the sea based features found in ACIII sounded gimmicky when it was announced earlier this year, but Ubisoft nailed it on all fronts
Metal Gear Rising on PC is the definitive release of the game. It's got all the content, better graphics, performs better, and is $30. Sure, some of the issues that were prevalent in the console version are still there, but its an immensely enjoyable hack-n-slash title with a crazy storyline and great boss battles.
Tomb Raider is a fantastic solo adventure. Admittedly, I couldn't help but wish my first experience with Tomb Raider was the Definitive One. If you come into Tomb Raider, this "Definitive Edition, thinking that it's anything more than a shinier port, you'll likely leave disappointed.
While the main story line of Operation Broken Eagle is woefully short, there's a healthy amount of side content to keep you busy. A lack of cooperative play is a disappointment, and only minor aesthetic differences separate this downloadable content from the main game.
This is one of Infinity Ward's most playful bouts of DLC to date. It livens up the Call of Duty: Ghosts experience with interesting dynamic new multiplayer maps. The new weapons are welcome bonuses, and Extinction continues to edge closer to a game mode on par with Zombies.
Respawn Entertainment seems to have cherry picked the very best aspects of contemporary shooters for Titanfall, and it works incredibly well. The dynamic between the Pilots, Titans, and AI is fun and fresh, and it works surprisingly well in every mode offered. Titanfall is pure, unadulterated multiplayer gaming.
MLB '14 The Show is an integral upgrade for fans of the franchise that recently upgraded to the PS4. With no competition in sight, PlayStation 4 players don't have any other options when it comes to baseball simulations, but then again, the year-in and year-out committment to quality from Sony San Diego made it so they never really needed those options in the first place.
Super Time Force is an awesome game from bottom to top. The combination of the impressive presentation and time-bending mechanics left me captivated at times. Fast forwarding and rewinding through my current playthrough to find just the right time to jump back into the action was addictive, and the goofy storyline was enough to keep me invested for the duration.
This PlayStation release of Rogue Legacy is undoubtedly the definitive release of the game. It might not get the hype and praise that the 2013 launch did, but those who happened to miss out on Rogue Legacy for PC/Mac should definitely take a look at this early release in Sony's Summer Play Program.
