7.7 / 10.0 - Lunar Lander Beyond
Apr 22, 2024

Let's be frank: an evolution of Lunar Lander must do Lunar Lander's job, and Lunar Lander Beyond fulfills its task. Do you find the gameplay too simple and repetitive? This is a 1979 game repurposed in a deliberately faithful manner, for better or worse, adding some features typical of modern productions but aiming above all to preserve the spirit of the original. Nothing to object to in this respect then, but more effort could have been made in terms of aesthetics, with some elements looking too amateurish that almost makes you regret the vector graphics of the old arcade.

7.7 / 10.0 - Bum Simulator
Jun 5, 2023

Bum Simulator could have simply offered vulgarities with no real purpose, but instead include a quite demential but nevertheless interesting story to follow, and a good crafting system. The world to explore is small, the combat system isn't enough complex and technically it could be way better, but in the end the formula works.

7.8 / 10.0 - Slice, Dice & Rice
Apr 3, 2024

What if during the jump from mobile to PC you lose some attractiveness and do not try to remedy it in any way? Slice & Dice's formula, perfect on smartphones, is a bit poor on the desktop, and there is nothing to do but decide which dice to roll and which enemy to attack, hoping for an interesting drop or the arrival of a stronger character. The strategic component would be interesting, thanks to gameplay that allows us to know the moves of monsters in advance, but it is all too simple and too tied to luck. The multiple options and situations make it a good game, but not the expected masterpiece.

7.8 / 10.0 - Showgunners
May 2, 2023

Showgunner blends real-time action and turn-based combat very carefully, adding nothing to either genre but placing them within a brutal reality show in which surviving is everything that matters. The result is fun and the game is recommended for loyal fans of the genre, but those hoping for some new features may be disappointed.

Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator simulates the life of a novice alchemist trying to pave his way to fame and glory discovery after discovery. As in real life, it requires dedication and perseverance, which do not always go hand in hand with casual game philosophy. The system of moving along the alchemical map will entice you to experiment for a few hours in search of the ultimate formula, but an uninspired endgame relying on grinding might turn away even the most ambitious alchemists. If you're looking for an original sandbox puzzler and aren't afraid of repetitive gameplay, it's definite-ly an interesting game.

7.9 / 10.0 - Hero's Hour
Apr 13, 2022

Hero's Hour mixes RPG, roguelike, real time strategy and auto battler elements in one convincing bundle, portrayed with a nice use of pixel art and an impressive number of units on screen. The gameplay loop, however, tends to be a bit repetitive and the lack of a singleplayer campaign doesn't help. Still worth it for its price, though.

8 / 10.0 - Howl
Jan 24, 2024

Howl is a puzzle game in which planning your moves and predicting the consequences play the lion's share. Keeping enemies' reactions in mind for the next six turns can prove very challenging, although with the assisted mode or a healthy dose of trial and error you will be able to complete all sixty levels in two or three evenings. The darkly grim story, medieval setting, and distinctive graphics make this a thoroughly interesting game. Once completed there is no reason to replay it except to try to earn all the achievements, but it remains a recommended experience for lovers of this genre of games.

Iron Marines Invasion is a Real Time Action Strategy that despite offering a casual approach, with very few options compared to most popular RTSs, manages to provide an excellent level of challenge. Colorful and fast-paced, with missions that hardly last more than ten minutes, it entices you to experiment thanks to the ability to change troops on the fly, although after a couple of defeats you will already know which soldiers to start with. A pleasant confirmation that even games initially designed for smartphones can be appealing on PC. Those looking for hardcore strategy, however, will prefer to skip it.

Achilles: Legends Untold is a good mix between RPGs with hack and slash action like Diablo and souls-likes in which every checkpoint is an achievement. The wide range of weapons, each with unique characteristics and combat styles, invite experimentation even to just see the animations of the protagonist as he crushes, kills and rips apart enemies. The story set in Greek mythology could only be interesting, and the fights are fun, even if some enemies appear out of the blue due to the absence of zoom. There are no classes - Achilles is Achilles! - but quite different builds can be created.

8 / 10.0 - En Garde!
Aug 16, 2023

En Garde! It focuses the entire experience on the charismatic protagonist and the spectacle of the fights, which are truly reminiscent of the swashbuckling movies that were so popular in the last century. It therefore offers a lot, but at the same time offers only this: a hack and slash that in the end is little more than a beat'em up. Definitely a welcome surprise for those who love action-packed games with a light and fun story in the background, but those looking for depth in gameplay, exploration or character growth will find this game too simple. In any case, I am sure we will still hear the name of Adalia de Volador.

8 / 10.0 - After Us
May 23, 2023

Besides being a fun game, After Us also offers a very interesting setting. Some technical problems in controlling Gaia do not negatively affect the experience, making it a recommended game for those who love to visit complex worlds platform after platform.

8 / 10.0 - Deceive Inc.
Apr 13, 2023

Deceive Inc. strives to distinguish itself from the mass of competitive multiplayer with a more stealth approach. The formula is successful and the matches are a lot of fun, however more content and a premium season need to be added to offer the same variety as the kings of this genre do: the premise is great, but only time and players interest will determine the game's success.

8 / 10.0 - Tchia
Mar 27, 2023

Tchia is an open world with many scenic settings to discover and just as many activities in which to engage while interacting with the Caledonian culture. The Soul Jump is one of the best features of the game, which, however, despite a well-told story risks to slip into boredom due to an almost complete absence of combat.

8 / 10.0 - The Last Spell
Mar 9, 2023

The Last Spell combines RPG, Tower Defense, and City Builder genres, with the extermination of numerous hordes as seen in They Are Billions, managing combat with the beloved turn-based system. The problem is precisly here: each run is a complex and slow chess match that can last a very long time, so those expecting quick sessions may be disappointed.

8 / 10.0 - Warlander
Jan 23, 2023

Warlander is a high-quality MOBA with a hack 'n' slash combat system that works well even in the most chaotic online situations. Regardless of the task at hand in battle, there is never a shortage of action, whether you seek for a fight to break through enemy lines or stay in the rear building defen-sive machines. Character growth and equipment provide satisfaction, and even without the Battle Pass, a lot of rewards can be unlocked. I am a bit afraid about the importance of in-game purchases, however, since the upgrades are not all merely cosmetic but directly affect player stats.

8 / 10.0 - Ghost Song
Nov 8, 2022

Ghost Song is a love letter to metroidvania genre with a huge map, so big that even the portion that can be immediately visited could almost represent a complete game. The game features an excellent graphic design, albeit with improvable animations, and an interesting story to follow despite starting with a little delay. The soulslike component makes things as hard as expected, and while it might annoy players who don't like repeating the same section again and again, it's part of the game. Definitely recommended for those who love exploration, too bad for the limited support for keyboard / mouse combo.

8 / 10.0 - Sunday Gold
Sep 12, 2022

Sunday Gold is a successful mix of a point and click adventure and a turn-based combat game, with a bit of role-playing. Taken individually, these three components would not be that memorable: puzzles can be solved by trial and error, shooting is not very varied, and character builds are quite simple. Combined, however, they represent a successful alchemy capable of transmuting not so precious metals into gold. Flaws become less visible, limitations appear more distant, and one of the most difficult gameplay genres to innovate could find a new youth.

8 / 10.0 - Arcade Paradise
Aug 27, 2022

I had forgotten that feeling of joy mixed with curiosity related to the unexpected arrival of a new cabinet in the arcade. Arcade Paradise made me relive this. I really liked a lot of the video games, while others, despite being quite good, simply weren't my cup of tea. But if you love retro/hyper-casual genre you will surely find at least a dozen of games that you will want to keep on playing, no matter if you already completed their quests. The managerial section, despite being an original part of the game, is the least developed feature; this is a video game for players who love more action and less thinking.

Timothy and the Tower of Mu is a declaration of love for the NES carved in pixels. It's an hard but not frustrating platformer, with lot of contents and secrets to discover. It is unfortunately penalized by an imprecise control system and the lack of configuration options does not help. Players used to jump with precision and timing will ignore these shortcomings, but less experienced players may be put off by the difficulty and be unable to fully enjoy everything Kibou Entertainment created.

8 / 10.0 - Arboria
Mar 30, 2021

There's no doubt Arboria is an interesting rogue lite, but perhaps it was been published at the wrong time, in a market really overcrowded by games of the same type. The game offers captivating graphics, the original setting and the robust combat system, as well as the interesting character skill tree have but also lacks variety, which combined with the abscence of side quests tends to make every run look the same. I still enjoyed, although the long waiting times between one run and the next are a poor fit for the genre.
