Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition was set to be one of this year's biggest and most celebrated releases. Unfortunately, due to multiple questionable decisions by those involved in the project, what we received was a collection that did little to deserve the nickname “definitive” registered in its name.

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is a welcome surprise among this year's RPGs. Every little detail oozes charisma and you can feel the developers' affection for their creation in virtually every moment of the game. The absence of more difficulty levels and the overall mechanics' simplicity may not suit everyone, and the line between calm and boredom is always a difficult one to traverse, but those who appreciate the proposal and moderate their expectations will find a concise adventure here, relaxing and — most importantly — fun.

8 / 10.0 - Evertried
Oct 27, 2021

In an increasingly competitive scenario, Evertried manages to stand out with its unique mix of turn-based strategy, grid movement and roguelite mechanics, proving to be a beautiful exponent of the interesting and growing Brazilian indie scene. Even its occasional problems are not enough to detract from a work that finds its best version on the Nintendo Switch, given its play style and the system's natural portability and flexibility. The hope is that an eventual sequel will expand the concepts presented here — the potential, like a certain haunted tower, is too great to go unnoticed.

8.5 / 10.0 - Metallic Child
Oct 23, 2021

Metallic Child is one of this year's welcome surprises. With a fun combat system, immersive storytelling and an impressive visual presentation, fans of action and roguelite mechanics will find lots of fun. Even the occasional setbacks aren't enough to detract from the shine of this adventure, which proves to be a consistent addition to Switch's already plentiful library of independent games.

In many ways, The Caligula Effect 2 (Switch) is what you'd expect from a sequel. With a fun combat system and a captivating narrative, one can notice a clear evolution of the concepts introduced in the first game of the franchise, so that even with the eventual technical problems, fans of the series and enthusiasts of a good JRPG will feel at home. Recommended.

9.5 / 10.0 - Tails of Iron
Oct 13, 2021

Tails of Iron is one of the most pleasant surprises this year. Although the art direction is the first feature that catches the eye, practically every element of Odd Bug Studio's work exudes quality, resulting in an easy recommendation to those who appreciate its proposal. Defeating a legion of frogs and rebuilding a brutally destroyed kingdom may not be so easy, but it sure is a lot of fun.

Awaited for years, Diablo II: Ressurected brings the adaptation of a classic work to the present day without its original essence being lost in the process. The visual and sound conversion deserves praise, and the ability to instantly switch between original and remastered visuals is the definitive addition in a complete, coherent package, capable of pleasing both veterans and newcomers to the series. When venturing against evil again, it is clear that some points could be reworked, such as movement and inventory. But the truth is, even its downsides can be lightened with a little patience — just keep in mind that in the 2000s, some things were a little different in the gaming world, for better and for worse.

7.5 / 10.0 - Gamedec
Sep 26, 2021

Although it has flaws in its execution, Gamedec is a recommendable title. The plethora of information available to the player can sometimes be annoying, but it's undeniable that solving cases and solving mysteries is fun. Fans of games with an emphasis on storytelling and freedom of choice will feel right at home, and cyberpunk-themed enthusiasts will also find entertainment — if expectations are properly balanced.

6.5 / 10.0 - King's Bounty II
Sep 7, 2021

King's Bounty 2 shows that sometimes less is more. When trying to offer two distinct experiences in the same package, this sequel unfortunately fails to realize the full potential of either part. Despite the problems, its combat system still looks interesting, so fans of the genre will still find fun here. But, for better and for worse, the warning is registered that the majesty cannot be sustained only in the deeds of the past.

9 / 10.0 - Axiom Verge 2
Sep 2, 2021

Axiom Verge 2 is one of those happy cases where the wait paid off. Compared to the first game, the sequel offers a distinct experience in which the exploration and reward mechanics are capable of providing unique moments. Its combat system could have been worked better, but any mishaps in this regard are not enough to tarnish a work that should be experienced by every player who claims to be a metroidvania fan. Here's a title that masterfully mixes the classic and the modern, and its setting alone would be worth the admission ticket, recommended.

7.5 / 10.0 - Boomerang X
Jul 16, 2021

Boomerang X is certainly a unique game. Fans of FPS and arena shooters looking for something different are sure to feel right at home, and the title's arcade feel makes it a good choice for unpretentious fun times. The gameplay here is the high point, and with a little practice it is possible to do cinematic moves. However, even with all the quality of the concept, there is no way to turn a blind eye to the amount of content present here, as well as to the fact that there is an untouched and unrealized potential in practically every corner of this creation.

10 / 10.0 - Everhood
Apr 18, 2021

Everhood is creative, precise, unique and engaging. It is refreshing to see a title experiment so much throughout its proposal and still deliver a harmonious and coherent final product. Although the soundtrack and the combat system are the highlights when analyzed individually, all the elements present here deserve praise. So, don't be fooled: here is an RPG that, although unconventional, deserves to be played by every fan of the genre, especially those who are not afraid of experiences that encourage thinking outside the box.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat is the complete and definitive version of two of the best multiplayer games of the past generation. Considering the two base campaigns and the inclusion of all expansions, newcomers will have plenty of content to explore, and the addition of features like cross-play and New Game Plus to the first Overcooked! give reasons to revisit the franchise’s delicious culinary chaos.

Neptunia Virtual Stars is not a bad game. Thanks to the light narrative, fans of the series will find here an opportunity to quell the longing for Neptune and his gang, who remain as charismatic as ever. However, the difference in gameplay between the protagonists ends up causing an imbalance that should not be ignored, and the very inclusion of VTubers seems shallow when looking at the product as a whole. Therefore, it is necessary to keep expectations in check; that way, walking around the planet Emote and flirting with the idol career will probably be much more enjoyable.

Total War: Three Kingdoms is one of those rare games, adorned with the power to fully absorb the player in its magic circle, making it very easy to play for hours in its universe. In addition to the great battles, there is a lot of fun to be found here in the various possibilities offered by the campaign, and enthusiasts of the genre are likely to be satisfied with the complexity that the game's subsystems can offer.

Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition is the definitive version of one of the best games of the generation. Complex, difficult and rewarding, here is a title that has content and the potential to entertain players for days, weeks and even months on end. The PC version is extremely welcome, as, above all, it means that more people will be able to enjoy this masterpiece. The adventure may at times become too complex, but the quality of all the elements is undeniable. It is not always that we see a franchise respect its inspirations and deliver a product that exceeds expectations. Therefore, if you are interested in the genre and are aware of the difficulty involved, it is worth venturing into this fascinating universe.

8 / 10.0 - Empire of Sin
Dec 3, 2020

While the flaws in Empire of Sin are significant, they are not enough to take the shine away from this Romero Games title. The bold proposal to mix different genres and moments in a game only ends up making the experience varied and interesting, especially for fans of the theme and genres contemplated here. When you spend time with the game, you get the impression that it would benefit from a little more development time. Still, creating and maintaining an empire of respect is as fun as it sounds. Honestly, I hope that the developers and the publisher continue to support the franchise - there is undeniable potential here.

8 / 10.0 - The Falconeer
Nov 25, 2020

The Falconeer is one of those cases in which the positive aspects are much more numerous than the possible flaws, easily ignored if one has an appreciation for the concept. In real life, birds learn to fly by falling and trying again until the process soon becomes natural. Perhaps the learning curve here requires a comparable initial effort, but the good news is that this is an adventure that deserves to be experienced, even if it's in the easy mode.

Two Point Hospital is one of those special games that have the potential to make the player lose track of the time when wrapped in their magic circle. This spiritual successor to the Theme Hospital series shows that creating and managing a hospital franchise is much more fun than a first glance might dare to realize, thanks to light themes, fun gameplay, fair challenges and an excellent soundtrack.

7.5 / 10.0 - The Survivalists
Oct 28, 2020

The Survivalists has its merits. The adventure has good ideas and manages to provide good moments (especially in multiplayer), but veteran players will soon realize that there is a lack of content after a few hours, and the absence of a more robust challenge unfortunately can also result in a tranquility that dangerously borders on monotony. The base built here is solid, and I hope that the developers keep the promises established by the roadmap and deliver new content in the future.
