Ivanir Ignacchitti's Reviews

I'm an enthusiast of handhelds, visual novels and Japanese RPGs.

Amnesia: Later x Crowd brings a pack with two visual novels that never released before in the West, and it manages to actually do a better job when developing the characters and their relationships. However, a good part of the content is mediocre and, as usual for fandiscs, its value highly depends on the player already having established a relationship with the characters. For those who have already been charmed by the original, this is an enjoyable ride that will be worth diving in; but for anyone else, it's hard to justify the interest in this pack.

6.5 / 10.0 - Amnesia: Memories
Sep 16, 2022

Overall, despite an interesting mystery concept and the routes' variations, Amnesia: Memories is one of the otome games I liked the least ever since I started playing titles in the genre back in 2012. The absence of quality of life elements, the little development of the characters and the various small issues make the experience a very average visual novel that isn't worth a highlight when compared to so many works with much better quality on the console, like Cupid Parasite, Variable Barricade, Code:Realize, Collar x Malice, etc.

Piofiore: Fated Memories is a high quality otome game that shows the conflicts between rival mafia gangs, with special care to show the characters as morally questionable. Though it has some text issues related to its trnaslation, it manages to develop its themes well, offering a compelling atmosphere and a must-play for fans of the genre.

Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Sim is a dating sim parody that tries to make jokes about relationships and gender itself. However, its superficiality and little understanding of what really makes a dating sim interesting considerably compromise the experience, which ends up being worth no more than a quick playthrough.

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is a curious interpretation of the universe created by Akihito Tsukushi, but a variety of technical issues and lacking polishment end up weakening the experience considerably. Fans of the original work who want to feel the despair of diving into the abyss may find the game really interesting but the experience tends to be mediocre, especially for those who don't even know Made in Abyss well.

9.5 / 10.0 - Soul Hackers 2
Sep 5, 2022

Soul Hackers 2 is an entry that manages to showcase with primacy the potential that a Soul Hackers series can have within the Shin Megami Tensei universe. It's a thought-provoking new beginning and an honest return to a classic world that deserves to be explored further.

Chronicles of Refugia is a good entrypoint to a unique futuristic world. Though the story and sound have a few direction issues, the title experiments with the visual novel format in an interesting way. It's a charming and expressive game, and I'm really curious to see the other characters' perspectives in the next episodes.

In sum, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon ☆ Breath is a generic low-budget shoot'em up. Even though it offers a good challenge, the title is below the quality standards the market expects nowadays. It still offers fun for those who love the genre a lot and some good illustrations in the gallery for the manga and anime fans, but these will hardly keep the player entertained for long.

7.5 / 10.0 - Super Bullet Break
Aug 20, 2022

Super Bullet Break is a comfortable roguelike deckbuilder and will definitely please some people fond of fanservice-focused works. Unfortunately, the game doesn't try to be anything more than that, and this choice, along with small QOL issues, make the experience nothing too spectacular. Nonetheless, this title can warrant many hours of casual fun.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the highlights of the Switch's library of games, which continues to provide us with high-quality RPGs. Without a doubt, this is a milestone in the Xeno series, ending a cycle in Tetsuya Takahashi's career so he can take the next step with Monolith Soft. It is an essential game not only for those who have followed the works so far, but also for those who are interested in knowing what is best in the RPG genre.

Taisho x Alice: Heads & Tails is an excellent addition to the narrative and complements the original visual novel well. With a high-quality English text, it's easy to laugh and feel truly engaged in the reading. This title is easily recommended to those who played the series' main episodes and, to those who haven't yet had this experience, I leave my suggestion of diving into this fairy tale from the beginning.

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions is a consistent and well-executed tactics game. Exploring a child's imagination, it shows how even small tasks and fears can be rebuilt by people in their own minds as metaphors and the role fiction can have in expanding our horizons and helping us in the process. Highly recommended for strategy fans and those who love emotional works for kids.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is an excellent example of how to make a competent action platformer gameplay for both newcomers and veterans. Kirin is a fast character and the technical aspects of her moveset allow her to become a machine that obliterates enemies and flies through the stages as long as the player spends some time mastering her abilities. For fans of the genre, it's a must-play, just like the whole Gunvolt franchise.

8.5 / 10.0 - Neon White
Jul 24, 2022

Neon White is a game that manages to handle speed and action as pieces of an addicting puzzle. Though this might be a little inconvenient for people looking for a casual experience, learning the best possible course of action offers a great feeling of reward to the player. For people who love spending hours gradually improving their time in platformer stages, this is a highly recommended game.

Yurukill: The Calumniation Games is an atypical genre combination. On one side, the escape the room is a brainy, logical genre focused on puzzle resolution. On the other, the shoot'em up is based on frantic combat and quick reflexes. Despite how hard it is to mix those two styles, the development team managed to present a unique experience that offers a great entry point for both genres. Especially for players interested in the narratives of Japanese animation and other pop works, it's worth checking out.

After more than a decade without games, Klonoa is back in good shape. The new collection isn't a perfect package, but both titles offer a lot of fun. For anyone who is a fan of the franchise or wants to know these charismatic 2.5D platform games in a modern edition, Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series is a great choice.

8 / 10.0 - Rune Factory 5
Jul 11, 2022

Rune Factory 5 is another good addition to the franchise that mixes farm life simulator with RPG and is very worthwhile especially for fans of the series. The expectation is that the next games will be able to go beyond what was presented here in all aspects.

Disgaea 6 Complete brings with it a fundamental evolution to the strategy RPG series. With the possibility of automating combat, it has never been so easy to dive in and enjoy the rewarding feeling of the series. For people who never played any of the previous games and veterans who are running a little short on time alike, there's no doubt this is the ideal entry in the Disgaea franchise.

AI: The Somnium Files - NirvanA Initiative is an excellent new entry in Switch's adventure games library and a sequence that's exactly what one should expect from a title written by Uchikoshi. Though there are some inconsistencies in the plot and clear over-the-top circumstances, the high quality is undeniable, going even deeper into the possibilities its predecessor hinted at.
