Matheus Senna de Oliveira's Reviews
Even if the biggest issue were only the extremely simplistic proposal, Laserpitium would still be a hard choice for anyone who isn't a hardcore shoot'em up fan. However, it went beyond: a lacking presentation, pitiful story, generic graphic style and bad gameplay, along with bad ideas in every aspect, make the game even worse. It's functional and even has some minimal qualities that maybe could, perhaps, satisfy fans of the genre; for anyone else, I'd suggest searching for other options in the stores.

Though a rerelease can be a good opportunity for old games to come back, Cyber Citizen Shockman 3: The princess from another world isn't one of the best examples. It may even have some positive points, like the visuals and emulation resources, but the original game is so limited that the novelties aren't enough. I recommend it to the fans of the franchise and/or platformers, as well as trophy hunters.

Unfortunately, eFootball 2022 fell short of all expectations, good or bad. The soccer game drastically changed its proposal by joining a free format, but it seems to have not planned well how to take advantage of it. With a build worthy (or not) of a demo, the game has problems in visuals, gameplay, content and mechanics in general.

Considering the competitive market and the large number of similar options, Sniper Ships: Shoot'em Up on Rails is overshadowed by failing to present relevant highlights and qualities. The game works well, has cool visuals and a soundtrack with potential, but these few positive points are sabotaged by the exaggerated difficulty and the absence of several basic elements. If you don't really like the genre, play at your own risk.

At first listen, Disaster Band seems like a great rhythm game. With a funny and original idea, the first few games are fun enough. The problem is that this irreverence can get a little annoying over time. The dependence on online modes to enhance the gameplay – to find players and new songs – is, to say the least, a risky bet. This is a suggestion for fans of the musical genre who are willing to face all these difficulties.

What we have in Predator: Hunting Grounds even provides some fun, such as explorations in search of valuable resources, joint attacks against the Predator (until the almost inevitable defeat) or reviving defeated colleagues. The alien hunter offers more, with even Mortal Kombat-style fatalities. It's a shame that you have to put up with an exaggerated asymmetry, which will lead to few cool matches amidst several annoyances.

There's no denying that Samurai Maiden manages to deliver on its flagship role: an accessible hack and slash featuring beautiful anime-style schoolgirls, ninjas, and samurai. In fact, it even goes further, bringing some good qualities to players in general, such as challenging fights and interesting content. Unfortunately, a half-assed technical production and lack of focus on important elements leave the recommendation limited only to ardent fans of what it really has to offer.

I'd say Cake Invaders can be compared to the traditional dessert called quindim: very simple, it's sweet and pleasant during the first bites. The issue is that, when eaten too much, it can be cloying because its excessive simplicity ends up undermining the chance of offering more interesting flavors and textures. In the end, it's a good title for people looking for an easy platinum but it doesn't offer much beyond that.

Evaluating the complete package, Redout: Space Assault is just one more on the market. The game has beautiful visuals and some good ideas, but there are serious problems with elements like the story and the gameplay. In other words, the game is functional and may even be interesting for some players, but it only takes some time to notice the issues.

Exp Parasite is a platform adventure strongly inspired on classic games. On the one hand we have the qualities seen in classic titles, on the other we also have the problems. In the end, the balance is slightly positive: exploring the levels is a fun and challenging experience, with a good deal of surprises and excitement. It is recommended for players who enjoy classic experiences.

It is possible to have fun with Foamstars, but you need to be lucky enough to meet other players and ignore some problems. They include a poor campaign, poorly thought out menus and excessive content monetization. The qualities are there, such as good gameplay, interesting online game modes and a diversity of characters. If it survives this shaky launch and brings competent updates, it is still possible to turn the tables; otherwise, it will be like a beautiful soap bubble, which is beautiful when it appears, but quickly disappears because it cannot sustain itself.

Adding up all its good and bad characteristics, No Son Of Mine ends with a positive balance. The dark atmosphere is competent in the different environments that the game explores, as is the basic premise of the plot and gameplay. The issue is that the campaign is brief and full of tedious explorations. As the combats are equally repetitive, we have a somewhat limited experience. In other words, while the basic gameplay is interesting, it becomes boring quickly. Given that the game is an indie, it is commendable to see a robust production with important qualities. If today's title is used as a basis for a more sophisticated production, we will certainly have a great game. Otherwise, it's just an interesting tip for horror lovers.

The years haven't been kind to Killsquad: if when originally released it wasn't already great, now its arrival on consoles is just ok. The biggest problems are due to the connection and the creation of teams, not to mention the somewhat generic proposal in general. There is fun in battles and missions, especially among friends, and with rewards that don't depend on loot boxes, but nothing that justifies a long-term investment. The suggestion is only for those who are really lovers of the genre or had already checked out the title on the PC and want to have it on the console.

eFootball 2023 finally took the franchise out of the relegation zone, putting it in a more comfortable position. The sharper visuals, the inclusion of more teams, and the significant improvement in gameplay made the free-to-play experience adequate and fun. The thing is, some of the biggest issues remain, including limited local experience and minimally enough content.

Despite the regrets, Serious Sam 4 is indeed a good FPS. Not only does it feature important and classic elements of its series, including action-packed gunfights and plenty of enemies to fight, but it also has extras like co-op mode and interesting dialogue. Unfortunately, these qualities are heavily undermined by poor performance, poorly planned combat stages and bad animations. At the end, is the recommendation for fans of the franchise and lovers of the genre.

At first glance, Beyond a Steel Sky had good potential. I was curious about its premise of solving puzzles in a story within a cyberpunk futuristic world. Though most of my expectations were met, multiple problems, including some pertaining to the performance and the plot, ended up limiting an experience that could have been a must-have experience in anyone's [game] library. The plot is good but far from spectacular, especially because of how it depends on past events. Characters are unique and charming, especially when it comes to their voices, but they have simplistic animations that aren't natural sometimes. The puzzles are interesting, even if sometimes they demand an epiphany to be solved. In the end, it's a good recommendation for those who loved Beneath a Steel Sky or the fans of the puzzle adventure genre.

Rust Console Edition is not for everyone. On the one hand, there's no tutorial, the visuals aren't flashy and the gameplay is relatively slow, most of its parts are just modest and uninviting. On the other hand, if the player enjoys the survival genre and sees the package as a whole, the game provides exciting and fun runs. Future updates may change this picture, but for now, the title serves only a small niche in the market.

In theory, The Ambassador: Fractured Timelines has everything to be a great game: several types of scenarios and enemies, different weapons and equipment to use and a very interesting time control mechanic. In practice, it wastes these good qualities by being modest, offering fun but relatively simple challenges, failing to risk more on points that would make it even better. In the end, this is a suggestion for fans of the genre or for those who were curious about the game.

Deck of Ashes basically only appeals to its target audience. Even presenting an interesting card game system, the other elements of the game are only average. Graphics, sound, design and animations are competent, although unattractive. Therefore, we have a title highly recommended for fans of the genre, but not for those who do not enjoy the popular “heart of the cards”.

Under more favorable circumstances, Farmagia could have been a great release. Its anime-style proposal is enjoyable, as are the basic mechanics of fighting, farming, and monster customization. It's a shame that its universe isn't well-presented enough, and there's no depth in the combats, farming, or even the production in general. This is a suggestion for fans of the anime style and/or anyone who wants a unique action RPG with good ideas, despite being relatively simple.
