6.5 / 10.0 - Space Otter Charlie
Mar 16, 2021

Space Otter Charlie is a good choice for those who enjoy light, different and uncompromising adventures. Its biggest highlight is the gameplay based on movement in environments with zero gravity and with a friendly difficulty curve for all player profiles. Exploration could be another highlight of the title, but it is used in a very superficial way, which leaves the experience very weak in this regard.

DARQ: Complete Edition is one of those titles that comes in the right measure in almost every way: a very good level of challenge, satisfactory duration, simple gameplay and an inviting art to attract anyone's attention. There is only a slight caveat about the difficulty for those who prefer a more elaborate mental challenge, as the game does not have any tasks that I can call formidable, or a difficulty setting that encourages playing it again.

El Hijo - The Wild West Tale attends well to everything it proposes with its experience without violence. It is light and challenging enough for casual players who are not used to the stealth genre, and that can leave the most demanding a little frustrated, but not dissatisfied. The Wild West is never out of style, but here the stealth could be a little more daring.

Scythe: Digital Edition is one of the best digital translations of a board game that I had the opportunity to try. Having contact with its original version obviously helped me when I was transported to dystopian Europe in the 1920s and also helped me to see how well the adaptation of Asmodee Games was done. Veterans will miss moving real pieces, counting pennies and even gathering everything together after playing, but I guarantee they will agree with me that the quality has remained in the digital version of this excellent game. Obviously it does not replace the charm of the original game, but it is a great alternative to play with friends.

8 / 10.0 - Astro Aqua Kitty
Apr 27, 2021

Astro Aqua Kitty is an apparently unpretentious title that won me over for its quality and addictive gameplay. At one point, I didn't even care about the story anymore, focusing my attention on exploring every corner of the different stages of the game just to make my submarine more and more perfect. A different and engaging shoot ‘em up.

7 / 10.0 - Battle Axe
Apr 30, 2021

Battle Axe manages to communicate with the language of a nostalgic era in which video games were simple and uncompromising, with a cliché adventure that already does more than enough to provide electronic entertainment. Its presentation in pixel art, sounds and music easily transport us to a time when our only goal was just to end the game with an invitation to play all over again. It lives up to the term 'Nostalgic'.

Resident Evil Village is a reference to the horror genre and an important milestone for the series in its 25th anniversary celebrations. Capcom first-person gameplay remains a wise decision, bringing gameplay and storytelling together in an excellent way. The main inspiration is the older brother, Resident Evil 4, with mechanics, characters and quality that make Village a kind of spiritual successor to one of the most revered games in the franchise. A must-have title for Resident Evil fans.

7 / 10.0 - Death Crown
May 19, 2021

Death Crown does not innovate in the visual department and that is not a negative point. The retro "1-bit" art gives this experience a unique charm that uses the fundamentals of real-time strategy very well while challenging the player in slightly elaborate and fierce matches.

7.5 / 10.0 - BIOMUTANT
May 24, 2021

Biomutant is a fun and rewarding experience for those who like to explore worlds in search of items while getting involved in a good adventure story. Of its main highlights, the exploration is excellent, and the combat has its problems that can be overcome with extra dedication and possible future updates. The game is an invitation to adventure that is worth accepting, despite a questionable performance on current consoles and other details of a more technical nature.

Enhancing many aspects of its predecessor, Subnautica: Below Zero is a formidable survival experience with the well-known layers of sensation that made Unknown Worlds Entertainment's previous title relevant in this challenging genre. A mandatory choice for those who enjoy adventure, mystery, tension and challenge.

With several improvements and options to make it more accessible — less difficult should be more suitable — or more challenging, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection is the best version of a videogame classic. With a presentation that brings excellent art and music, in addition to elements that greatly enhance the gameplay, the high difficulty still makes the game be targeted to a more specific niche. Still recommended, but to be enjoyed in moderation.

8.5 / 10.0 - Eagle Island Twist
Jul 6, 2021

Eagle Island Twist is a good example of the famous saying "don't judge a book by its cover". Despite appearing to be a cute and simple game at first glance, it is quite challenging and well done both technically and artistically. The pixel art direction demonstrates impressive details, such as the lighting effects on underground scenes and the reflection of some translucent platforms. The title is a treat for fans of platformers.

What started out as an unpretentious weekend gamble in yet another free game turned out to be a great recommendation for anyone looking for challenge, competitiveness and excellent value for money for a genre that often ends up being more of the same. If you don't believe me, I dare you to play Splitgate right now.

Batbarian: Testament of the Primordials is what I might call shallow metroidvania. It doesn't take advantage of everything the genre has to offer, but presents enough to have what a game needs: fun and challenge. It would hardly be on my best-of-the-genre list, but the humor and the soundtrack will have a place in my memory and may prompt me to play it one more time.

6.5 / 10.0 - Cris Tales
Aug 5, 2021

Beautiful and charming, but not worth everything it appeared to be. Adapting the lyrics of the popular song, this is how I see 'Cris Tales' after my unpleasant experience with a title in one of the genres I like the most. Merits for the beautiful art and care in giving voice to all the characters, as well as interesting uses of time and a script that is shaped by the player. The same Time that makes the heroine shine is very poorly used outside the game, with excessive loading screens, slow pace of combat and the infamous grinding, which make us lose even more of this valuable resource that rules our lives.

I confess that my expectations for Aliens: Fireteam Elite were low. I was already expecting another random game hitchhiking on Fox's license, but I had fun obliterating xenomorphs with my rifle—aside the pleasure of toasting several aliens at once with a flamethrower. Despite the constant repetitiveness, it's fun and challenging in an honest and addictive way. As a fan of the movies — the original trilogy, okay? — I salute this game, it deserves.

6.5 / 10.0 - RiMS Racing
Aug 26, 2021

RiMS Racing is the kind of product that follows to the letter the rule of simulators: it's a niche game. The lack of options that would turn it more attractive to casual players limits those who will really appreciate the game. My experience wasn't one of the best, but there were moments I really enjoyed piloting a Superbike, something I'd never do in real life. If you're looking for an alternative to Ride, MXGP and similar titles, RiMS Racing may not be the option for you. This is the kind of game for people who really enjoy, live and breathe motorcycle racing.

Even with so many details that leave us with that feeling of "they could have done this/that" to give it a little extra breath, id Software opted for the right to keep the original experience as a priority in this relaunch. It's always nice to see old faces back in the crowd, even if they're all battered and bleeding. Rejoice, nineties! Quake is back and remains authentic.

7 / 10.0 - Ultra Age
Sep 22, 2021

Ultra Age is an excellent title for those who are looking for action inspired by classics of the hack ’n’ slash genre, but who don't want to be stuck with the familiar games of this genre. Its biggest highlight is a fluid, fast and addictive gameplay full of style and effects that fill the eyes. The plot and visuals aren't her strongest point, but that's a detail you can wipe away to really enjoy the game.

8.5 / 10.0 - UnMetal
Sep 29, 2021

UnMetal is, by far, one of the best games I had the pleasure of trying out in 2021: it's plenty of fun, it offers just the right challenge, and it has the best script that will ever be shown in a movie or TV series. A medal of honor for this true war hero.
