Critic Reviews for Space Otter Charlie

Space Otter Charlie is satisfying and enjoyable.

Cute and unassuming, Space Otter Charlie doesn’t reinvent the wheel. But it does provide a lovely few hours of entertainment. Its levels are a joy to explore, and even though traversal can be a bit of a pest, the game’s puzzles and satisfying upgrades more than make up for it. There are far worse ways to spend an afternoon than in the company of Charlie, that’s for sure.

Space Otter Charlie is a fast and extremely captivating game, as well as intelligent, that holds the player from the beginning to the end. With it you have fun and still learn curiosities about such cute animals that otters are. Despite crashing at times, the game is not compromised by this and manages to deliver everything it promises.

I enjoyed Space Otter Charlie for its unconventional gameplay that features a lot of variety in its objectives and clever environments.

Space Otter Charlie is cute, fun, and easy to play with, clever but simple puzzles, enjoyable old-school boss fights, and plenty to explore, find, and craft. It’s a game aimed at a more casual demographic that I’m really not a part of, but that’s okay. I still found a lot to appreciate.

Space Otter Charlie is a good choice for those who enjoy light, different and uncompromising adventures. Its biggest highlight is the gameplay based on movement in environments with zero gravity and with a friendly difficulty curve for all player profiles. Exploration could be another highlight of the title, but it is used in a very superficial way, which leaves the experience very weak in this regard.

Despite a few niggles, Space Otter Charlie is a delightful, creative and fun game. There’s so many old school influences shining through here – a splash of family friendly Conkers humour, a structure similar to classic Zelda, traversal that feels like a modern day take on the Spectrum classic Jet Pac – that this game reminds me of the ‘good ol’ days’. If you’re in the mood for an old school action platformer game that benefits from modern day games design, this is the one.
