If you are a point and click adventure fan going through a dry spell, it may be worth picking up Chains of Satinav to fill a winter weekend, when you would just rather stay inside. If you just discover this videogame genre there are far better options out there to immerse yourself in.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is undoubtedly a classic in the point-and-click adventure game genre. However, it is clear that this is a game that is more than eight years old at its core and has not undergone any major technical changes. The story is slightly predictable at some stages and the overall impression and enjoyment of the gameplay is spoiled by the setting, or rather the animation of the characters and their dubbing. Although I am a proponent of dubbing in games, especially story-based ones, here I would even prefer if there was no dubbing and the conversations were only within the text.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is a fantastic point-and-click adventure game that does not feel at all 9-years old. The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is an excellent graphic adventure, which we would like to recommend both to novices of the genre and to those who are experienced in this type of games. A game that considering its nature it’s not affected by the passing of the years and indeed is definitely in line with the most recent productions of this genre and which presents a well-written and scripted plot and a dozen hours of puzzles and funny gags between the two protagonists and which can also be appreciated with a joypad in hand and not only in its PC version with mouse and keyboard.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav has glimpses of ingenuity with its puzzle design, it looks great for its age and it has a satisfactory port of a point and click system on the PS4. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t pay off, often feeling disjointed along the way which isn’t helped by some uninspired vocal performances. Hopefully the sequel is better.
