Resogun: Defenders signs Housemarque's shooter off in predictably sublime style. Protector is arguably the game's greatest mode to date, offering everything that's enjoyable about the original – just at pulsating pace. Commando's not quite as successful, but it delivers an imaginitive twist on the existing formula, all with plenty of personality and panache. This is still, in this author's opinion, the PS4's best original game – and the frightening thing for other developers is that it just got better again.

Resogun: Defenders offers a nice range of content across the two new game modes. Protector is highly enjoyable as it twists the standard Resogun gameplay in favor of a faster, more action-packed game mode with a bigger emphasis on building and protecting human cities and bases. Commando is an inventive idea that takes ideas from the past, but adds in some modern day style.

Resogun Defenders is an intelligent extension of the Resogun formula. The Protector mode is shockingly robust, mixing small micromanagement elements with a fully alive arcade spirit.
