Critic Reviews for Sun Wukong vs. Robot

Sun Wukong VS Robot is a great platforming experience. It's addictively fun to play, hard as nails, and honestly a joy for fans of the genre. At the budget price of $4.99, it's easy to recommend this title to players ready for their next challenge.

You can have a tiny bit of fun with Sun Wukong vs. Robot. It’s not inherently terrible. It’s just one of the most generic and forgettable metroidvanias I’ve played in a while. It offers nothing new to the genre, its visuals are lackluster, and its overall design is just beyond bland.

With beautiful ambiences and interesting challenges, Sun Wukong VS Robot is a good option for those who enjoy metroidvanias and don't want to spend a lot of money or time on long adventures. Showcasing the Monkey King in all its glory, the title manages to captivate and boasts feats that go far beyond its “mini” status, making for a vastly charming experience.

More firewood for the cauldron of the metroidvanias! Sun Wukong VS Robot will not go down in the annals of history. In fact, he did not do it five years ago on PC, but the damned is fun, very dynamic and with good forms. Its brevity is coupled with a lack of ambition or means that could leave it in a much better place, but at least we are left with a very cheap game, perfect to disconnect and have a nice time, and split machines with the legendary staff of the most legendary Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong vs Robot is a mess. It looks bad, sounds worse, and plays pretty poorly to boot. The only reason you would play this is if you were desperate for a Metroidvania and only had a fiver to spend. Even then, the game is not worth that price, especially when some of the best games in the genre can be bought for slightly more off sale, and less on sale. It’s the 10 pence mixup of the gaming world – disappointing, cheap, and it barely registers on the serotonin scale but might give you diabetes all the same. Hard pass.

Sun Wukong Vs. Robot is a short Metroidvania adventure. Instead of journeying far and wide to uncover upgrades and fight challenging enemies, this game will have you exploring a small area that still follows the Metroidvania tropes. Is this brief adventure still worth your time? Find out in this collaborative Rapid Review written by myself and Brent Gass.

Throwback budget action platformers are pretty well a dime a dozen on Switch, and of relatively uniform decent quality, so clearly differentiating yourself in the space is a challenge...
