Critic Reviews for Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual!

Frankly I would prefer to see the same level of imagination and ingenuity in the razor sharp writing translated to another point and click classic.

The script is sharp and remarkably funny. Even with the frustrations of the game’s technical shortcomings, we couldn’t help but laugh at many of the quips, getting a good hearty chuckle at least a dozen times across the three hour adventure. The characters and the insane world they exist in stand the test of time, and it’s a lone bright spot in an otherwise frustrating endeavour.

Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual is a textbook case that proves not all games are easy to transition from a traditional to virtual presentation. Dialog heavy games can work in VR if you are an active participant. Not so much when you are a mere observer. This problem is further exacerbated by the lack of polish of the game’s controls. What still works is the banter between Sam and Max. The writing is good as is the soundtrack. If you are a fan of these characters, you’ll probably be able to deal with the game’s shortcomings. For the rest, your time is better spent elsewhere.

Filled with non-sequiturs, excellent writing, fantastic voice work, and hours of minigame and puzzle fun, Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual! is a great entry into the entertainment pantheon of lunacy that'll leave you wanting more. More please!

Sam & Max are back... again... but now in VR!

I really wanted to love Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual! as much as the original or Telltale series, but it is just a compilation of boring minigames, bugs and problems with controls, that cannot be saved even by its great sense of humour and wodnerfully absurd story.
