Critic Reviews for Lamentum
Lamentum is a fine debut that happens to serve a very specific fanbase, the same players who will celebrate its lack of trusty modern gameplay conveniences.
Lamentum is like a salad, it is a fantastic idea with delicious bits in it like the combat and general sense of exploration. While not without issues, the game is still fun.
Lamentum embodies all the elements of a good survival horror experience: helplessness, isolation, tension, uncertainty, and fear. In addition, it has every feature one would want in an old-school survivor horror game: grotesque monsters, an arsenal of weapons, brain-teasing puzzles, limited saves, free-roam exploration, and multiple endings.
Lamentum is a magnificent homage to the classic survival horror of the 90s and a love letter to Lovecraftian gothic horror. Despite its somewhat clunky combat system, Obscure Tales' title will delight fans of the genre.
