Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Review Summary

MightyCritic Consensus

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 provides a highly engaging world to explore and exciting and emotional story to experience, making it one of the best JRPGs on Nintendo Switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a single player JRPG that offers a massive open world to explore with many side activities and missions to partake in which make sense within the world, making them feel less like busy work and more like essential parts of the story. The main story is long and engaging, which is well paced with highly polished cutscenes. It is an emotional story and is highly relatable whilst also being suitable for a grand scale JRPG. Suitable for new players to the series whilst also keeping long time fans happy with nods to previous games Xenoblade keeps the player engaged throughout its 100+ hour runtime.

The game provides a huge cast of well written characters that are well voice acted, likeable and easy to empathise with. It has a beautiful soundtrack and the general sound work of combat and exploring makes it easy to get lost within the world of Aionios. The combat system is both easy to understand and complex, allowing for a high level of experimentation and constantly evolves throughout the game. The exploration of the world is highly enjoyable with many activities to uncover and things to collect, with legitimate reasons for wanting to carry them out. Xenoblade’s world looks beautiful and the characters and monsters are well designed and it runs very well on the Nintendo Switch, making the most out of the machine's limited capabilities.

Monolith Soft closes out its loosely connected trilogy of epic RPGs with its most adaptable, malleable and high-spirited adventure yet.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can take some meandering detours across its massive 150-hour campaign, but great characters and addictive tactical combat make it all well worth the time.

Monolith Soft has crafted a JRPG that is so colossal yet also intricately focused. It delivers an experience that iterates upon everything its predecessors managed to achieve, resulting in a masterpiece that I am utterly enraptured by. Part of me feels like I’m still stewing in a cauldron of hyperbole, but in terms of characters, themes, and a world that I never want to leave behind - this is the series at its very best, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
