Enshrouded’s mix of Valheim-style survival and Breath of the Wild-style exploration make a wonderful pairing, but it still has slew of Early Access kinks to work out.
Enshrouded is a survival action-RPG set in a wide-open world of combat, building, crafting and exploration, each feeding into the other.
Enshrouded is my favourite of the recent raft of survival games. It's distinctly unique, what with the Shroud occupying parts huge parts of the map, and the insane building potential is excellent, arguably making it the best survival game of the year.
Even though it may not offer anything groundbreaking, you'll likely enjoy Enshrouded if you're a fan of survival games.
While some elements of Enshrouded are genuinely impressive – like its hand-crafted world – the way progression is structured, favoring rushing to the hardest biome you can get to and grinding its respawning chests rather than gradually climbing in power as you reach a new biome, ends up doing the game more harm than good.

Enshrouded 1.0 is an outstanding action-survival RPG that sets a lofty new benchmark for voxel building and world exploration on PS5. While it doesn't quite match the raw survival grit of Valheim, its unparalleled building freedom, high-stakes Shroud timers, and excellent co-op gameplay make Embervale a joy to explore. Minor world reset quirks aside, this is an essential addition to any PS5 library.
An expansive world, well-written lore, and decent base-building provide an enjoyable survival game alternative.
For being in early access, Enshrouded is already phenomenal. What I like most about Enshrouded is it cleverly creates a satisfying gameplay loop out of bouncing players between building and questing, it features a beautiful blend of hand-combed survival crafting tropes and RPG mechanics, and the open world is a massive playground riddled with Shrouds, secrets, and scenic views. Especially with friends, you'll enjoy your time and find what you're looking for in Enshrouded.
