For those who were looking for a good shmup in MACROSS -Shooting Insight-, I suggest spending your hard-earned gold coins on other games of the same style, which are abundantly present in the library of Nintendo's hybrid console. Everything you've tried has failed. I don't recommend the game even to the most inveterate player of the style.

As lovely a use of the undeniably cool source material as this is, MACROSS -Shooting Insight- is a commendable effort, but one that's destined to remain rather niche, it seems.
MACROSS -Shooting Insight- has good ideas and execution flaws, but the fact that it carries the name of a classic franchise ended up becoming a burden, even with the Gallery full of cool collectibles, the main one, which was to emphasize combat with the different forms of the mecha, ended up lacking and the constant change of perspectives is an example of something good that was used in a bad way.

MACROSS -Shooting Insight- has some great ideas and a nice mix of gameplay, but parts of it are very poorly implemented. It has tons of bonus content to unlock and more to do than many other shoot 'em ups, while simultaneously seeming to skimp in certain other areas. If you happen to be a Macross fan who is very good at the genre and doesn't mind some iffy mechanics, this might be for you. Otherwise, it's fun to play around with, see some of the unique ideas, and to experience the story, but that's it.
