Critic Reviews for Pax Augusta

Overall, I had a great time playing Pax Augusta, and while it’s a niche game for a niche audience, anyone who has fond memories of playing historical city-builders will enjoy this breath of fresh air. A game built with real care and attention in a developer’s spare time, self-taught with YouTube tutorials. The fact the game is half as good as it is an incredible feat of development.

Outside of the gameplay elements, Pax Augusta delivers on its promise of helping aspiring leaders build the Roman city of their dreams. Going from humble beginnings to a megapolis is no mean feat, but it's mainly because the game tends to work against you. There is potential, and a project born of passion is always worth supporting. At the same time, it is always working against the clock, just like the sun setting on a once great empire, as better things loom on the horizon.

Those who are patient and willing to embrace the game's quirks will be rewarded with an exceptional city-building experience that will linger in their memory for a long time.

Pax Augusta is a city builder that offers a historically accurate experience with unique mechanics, but it still needs work to shine in all its glory. It's a shame that the numerous bugs currently present in the game end up marring the experience. Still, I'm sure these issues will eventually be resolved over time. The potential is there, and Roger Gassmann is demonstrating all the passion he feels for his work.
