Candylands Journey is a solid, plucky platformer which does enough to keep your interest, even if you’ve seen it all before.

It's easy to see the potential in Candylands Journey. The mechanics are enjoyable, the graphical style is beautiful, and the level layouts are full of options to explore the beaten path. In theory, this would be a great game, but the beautiful art gets in the way of the gameplay - literally. When the central challenge in a game is deciding what is and isn't a wall and having to play Where's Waldo? to figure out where enemies lurk, it is hard to call it entertaining. There is a need for more games like Candylands Journey - short, enjoyable experiences to spend an evening with, but it is so painful to see how close Spell Pie was to actually hitting the mark.

Candylands Journey is an enjoyable, laid-back platformer game with an upbeat soundtrack and great visuals inspired by ‘90s games. However, its overwhelming level design adds additional obstacles for players in this short timed adventure. Still, for those with a sweet tooth for nostalgia, it’s a treat worth unwrapping.

Candylands Journey is a light, accessible platformer that delivers plenty of visual charm and cheerful fun. It’s not a game that redefines the genre, nor does it need to — its strength lies in being simple, relaxing, and pleasantly crafted. If you’re after a colourful, easygoing platformer that plays smoothly on Xbox and offers a few hours of sweet escapism, Candylands Journey is worth unwrapping. Just don’t expect it to keep you coming back for seconds once you’ve finished.
