I would say the story was rather predictable, but regardless of this, the ending I unlocked was still emotional and beautiful. Especially that last photo scene. OPUS: Prism Peak has a fun set of characters and does well to tell its story. The gameplay is simple, although certain segments seem like a bit of a chore to actually play. No issues while playing, besides the goat character not being sat in a chair properly. OPUS: Prism Peak is definitely worth your time and deserves the Thumb Culture Gold Award. Although I don’t think I will be doing another run through it anytime soon. But on the other hand, I might also check out their other work.
OPUS: Prism Peak is a thoughtful and emotionally grounded narrative adventure that uses photography as both a gameplay mechanic and thematic lens, following a disillusioned adult protagonist through a surreal journey of memory, regret, and connection; its slow pacing and layered storytelling reward players who take time to explore, even if some design choices create friction in progression clarity and urgency.
I find myself with a knot in my throat just writing about this game. OPUS Prism Peak feels at times a lot less like a game and more like a work of art. That is if you can handle the joy, the loss, the pain, or in other words, life. It is cathartic, it is real, it is beautiful, and it is sad. The jadedness of adulthood, the naivete of youth, joy of life, and the journey we take to get to our endings. But also that there is hope, there is a future, sometimes we just need to take a photo, pause, and reflect.
OPUS: Prism Peak is simply art—from the gorgeous visuals to the profound story that will surely tug at the heartstrings to the emotional delivery of the character voices and the well-written cast. There’s little to dislike and a lot to love about the game, especially for those who appreciate a bit of fantasy in their relatable game narratives. Aside from the slow pacing sometimes and the need for a few gameplay improvements here and there, it stands proudly as a wonderful title, one that shares a tale that may hit close to home and that will stay with you even after the credits roll.
OPUS: Prism Peak is a well-written and engaging narrative adventure. I finished the game caring about Eugene and the entire world around him in a way I didn’t expect I would. It’s an emotional story that, even in its less subtle and cheesy moments, embraces everything wholeheartedly and without fear.
