Dragon Quest III is one of the most influential RPGs in history. Originally released in 1988, the game was a mammoth journey compared to its predecessors, coming with a complex class system for the time with many of the mechanical and narrative conventions coming from here. Throughout its 36-year history, the game has had several re-releases and remakes, and the HD-2D version is the definitive one.

Rhythm Festival is easily the most complete and accessible game in the series. Its insane amount of content ensures that it will have a long life, and its monetization options - with the exception of the initial price - aren't particularly bad. It's a delight that the game that's finally most accessible to the PC audience is such a solid one, as it feels like a solid reward after so many years of waiting. Whether you're a newcomer looking to discover the series, or a veteran looking for something new, Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival is the best of what this quirky series has to offer.

Farmagia is a game with Hiro Mashima's face, literally. But not just because of its design, I feel it's a game that has a lot of his essence. It's a game with great characters, who are very well-developed and layered, while also working with interesting themes and concepts that have consequences and weight to their actions. Fellowship and the “power of friendship”, recurring themes in Mashima's works, are also present here, which doesn't bother me at all, as I love a story with a good vibe and positivity. The game is far from perfect, its gameplay gets tiresome sooner than it should, some parts that seem too isolated from the rest and a second act that drags on too long serve as a counterbalance to the good parts and create a bitter feeling towards the game.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a breath of fresh air for the series after the disastrous Modern Warfare III. In multiplayer, it makes use of the best aspects of the past to create a very entertaining experience, and as much as the campaign was disappointing narratively, it is undeniable that there was an effort to add variety and longevity to the mode. While not perfect, this game demonstrates - both in and out of game - that there is still room for Call of Duty to reinvent itself. With the progression of the overall design and the game's availability on Game Pass, I can feel optimistic for the first time about the future of the series.

Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire is a game that had a lot of potential by bringing a very interesting concept, exploring dogfights in an RPG context with a focus on strategy. The game has a number of technical problems that could have been solved with a little more development time. It's also important to highlight the dedication to the game's visual presentation, which is very charismatic and will please animation fans. Something that the studio can benefit from in new projects.

Clock Tower is a simple game and looking at it completely coldly, nowadays there are games that do what it does better. However, it is a piece of history for both Nintendo and gaming in general, given that it was born in a rather unusual console and is one of the pioneers of the genre. The Rewind version has a lot of really interesting extra content that gives Clock Tower a good context, and I recommend anyone interested in this type of game to get this version.

Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered brings the return of a classic that was previously stuck on old consoles, so that anyone can play it on modern platforms. It contains the original experience and content, with some slight extras and improved graphics and performance. So we have a definitive version of the game. It's a shooter with Mikami's personality and Suda51's crazy world, visual style and characters.

Shiro and the Coal Town is straight to the point: A Slice of Life game with the vibe of a movie from an episodic franchise. It's a game with very beautiful and contemplative art, showing you beautiful scenery at the same time as putting you in the middle of an adventure.

Romancing SaGa 2 is an RPG that I think is important for fans of the genre to play. Although the franchise is not the most popular here in the West, its importance and influence on role-playing games is undeniable. It's unbelievable to imagine that such a complex RPG, with varied and sophisticated systems and so many narrative ramifications, and with this level of world-building, was released in 1993. Many games can't reach that level of complexity these days.

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero masterfully manages to revive the days of Budokai Tenkaichi, bringing that nostalgic feeling with touches of modernity. By embracing the fact that this series is not a fighting game with Dragon Ball characters, but a Dragon Ball battle simulator, we have the true unbalance that allows us to experience Dragon Ball the way it is, with fusions being stolen and Mr. Satan being a meme, just the way it should be.

Neva is a fascinating artistic experience. Its short duration also allows you to find some time to enjoy this experience, at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to devote ourselves to our hobbies.

Ys X: Nordics allows the series to breathe new air with its new combat system. Adol's new adventure brings a more mature narrative and makes the franchise's most avid fans see it in a new perspective after certain revelations.

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes a very important step for Atlus, showing that it is possible to do something much more than Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. The entire Studio Zero development team stepping out of their comfort zone and delivering an experience on this level is genuinely incredible.

My journey with Parcel Corps was a downhill experience, unfortunately. Although it has its good moments, especially once you get used to the controls and the map you're on, the whole process of getting there is too exhausting. It's a comic game, always with good humor, but its details irritate me so much that even the jokes didn't make me smile anymore.

REYNATIS is a very ambitious game, with big names like Yoko Shimomura and Kazushige Nojima forming a real dream team. So you'd expect that to mean the game would be perfect, but unfortunately it seems to have been released before it had finished baking in the development oven.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster didn't need to be a remake, nor did it need to drastically update its mechanics. The game itself stands on its unique game design and becomes a great way to see the generational transition from the time of its original release and how it really is a game full of living dead ideas, which in one way or another are in the form of mechanics torn apart by the entire industry.

Copycat's narrative is very impactful and manages to deliver it very well in three hours. You get to know the story of the kitten, the lady who adopted her and the themes of feelings of helplessness, abandonment, depression and responsibility all have an impact here. If I said that this game doesn't do a good job of telling what it wants to tell, I'd be a liar. However, I'd also be lying if I said I was pleased about it.

Star Wars Outlaws is good but it could be better. It's clear that it needed more development time and polish, its systems don't always fit together perfectly and the combat, while good, doesn't go much further. Exploring its contained worlds, shooting with blasters and experiencing a little more of the side that the galaxy far, far away allows us, works well and is much of what Star Wars fans deserve after so many bad releases.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Plus is just what Danganronpa fans have been waiting for for years. The game takes elements that seem familiar to those who are already fans of the Kodaka's franchise, but still adds many original elements. It's not perfect, of course, especially with its performance bottlenecks and some bugs that are probably the result of a lack of optimization. However, the expressive characters and dialogue are comical and incredible, and I'd say the best part is that the game is now available on multiple platforms, meaning there's no excuse not to play this game.

The new Playstation exclusive softens hearts with its cuteness and technical and design quality, but it also shows how easily companies can grab us with cheap nostalgia for products that, although of quality, are just a display of grandeur disguised as homage.
