Critic Reviews for Artis Impact

Artis Impact will certainly attract fans of Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest, and Sea of Stars with their unique take on this turn-based RPG that will have players going from battling ferocious enemies and bosses, trying to earn an income, to enjoying a warming bowl of ramen in a single turn.

Touting a unique brand of offbeat humour and some absolutely beautiful pixel art, Artis Impact is a labour of love that mostly hits the mark. While its combat system lacks depth and it could use a stronger core narrative, it presents a gorgeous world filled with charming character moments that surprise and delight. Despite a few rough edges, this is a bite-sized RPG full of heart.

Artis Impact is a very authorial game. It's the kind of game where you notice that some things were done just because the developer thought it was cool. I particularly like this type of project. And although it has a few problems with the execution of its traditional systems, this is compensated for by its humorous story, which works very well even against a post-apocalyptic setting, and its art direction.

I didn’t know I needed Artis Impact in my life. I’ve spent countless hours playing RPGs so similar to each other that I often forget what it's like to experience something new and unexpected. Artis Impact is both of these things, while also being familiar in a comforting way. It is a charming world with a main character I quickly grew attached to and an impressive amount of ways to interact with the environment. The social aspects helped keep me invested in this girl's life, and the ever-changing art style was visually pleasing from start to finish. The standard RPG elements were a bit light, as Akane became overpowered pretty easily, but role-playing her life more than made up for it. In the end, Artis Impact was a game I never wanted to end, and it had me jumping back in for a second playthrough once the credits rolled—something very few games have made me want to do.

Artis Impact is a masterfully crafted, imaginative odyssey that paints its post-apocalyptic world with heart and pixel-perfect precision. Though its narrative occasionally wavers, the game’s seamless blend of cozy mechanics, nostalgic JRPG flair, and a sharp-tongued yet endearing protagonist delivers an experience as memorable as it is meaningful. Impactful Indeed.

[Y]ou cannot help but be astounded by the atmosphere and beauty presented by this indie offering. This is the kind of title that would make not just its country of origin proud, but the indie gaming landscape as a whole. [...] Artis Impact is but a sizeable taste of what pure game-making talent and love can achieve in the field of small-scale JRPGs.

The game’s information suggests a grand narrative about humanity’s survival and AI integration. But that sense of scale quickly collapses as you start playing. There’s no payoff for the foreshadowing, and Akane’s personal stakes never feel urgent. Conversations also tend to rely on awkward tropes—especially when it comes to how female characters are written. Akane is strong, sarcastic, and clever… but even she isn’t spared from the occasional objectifying dialogue choice. Other women suffer the same fate, too often reduced to outdated archetypes that feel out of place in a world otherwise trying to present serious themes... The world has a lot of personality, and I wanted to get swept up in it. But I couldn’t ignore how often the game forced me to endure lines that felt uncomfortable at best and sexist at worst. That dissonance pulls the story apart.

Beautiful, challenging, and truly impactful—Artis Impact is an RPG that will end up as one of the most special experiences you'll find on the indie scene this year.
