Critic Reviews for Amazing Princess Sarah

Low replay value aside this is an enjoyable romp, granted you have the patience and skills to finish these treacherous castles.

Ultimately, Amazing Princess Sarah took two of my favorite NES games and mushed them into one product. Despite some frustrating flaws, it's still a pretty good game, and it's well worth your time if you enjoy the original Castlevania and Super Mario Bros. 2.

Amazing Princess Sarah is a competent, if uninspired indie platformer.

At the end of the day, Amazing Princess Sarah does a better job of emulating the Castlevania formula than a lot of bigger publishers in the past when they've tried to. The combat could really use more variety - things do get a bit repetitive from that standpoint, but the level system and well-designed levels do provide additional hooks to keep the player interested.

Amazing Princess Sarah is a good retro platformer, of that there is no doubt. There's also plenty to do, although the nature of the implementation means that some will feel that it crosses the line into repetitiveness. It would have taken longer in development of course, but if the game had 30 levels in play as opposed to five levels repeated six times with slightly different character parameters, the developers would have been onto a surefire winner. As it stands though, Amazing Princess Sarah still has the ability to hook you and is enjoyable enough for the price.

It may not be entirely original, then, and it’s certainly generic in the looks department, but Amazing Princess Sarah is good fun for those who like old-school platformers such as Castlevania. It’s the type of game that you can play through in one or two sittings, having fun flinging one enemy at another. Then maybe you’ll return to it from time to time to tackle its hoist of additional unlockable game modes. You certainly can’t go wrong for its budget price.
