Critic Reviews for Blues and Bullets - Episode 2

The second episode of Blues and Bullets falls short in enough ways to make it easy to recommend staying away from it at this point until all five episodes are out in the wild.

While there's a lot of small improvements all around, the same issues that plagued the first episode are still here, albeit a bit less noticeable. It's an enjoyable experience, but one that isn't quite living up to its potential.

Despite having a few flaws that lower the overall experience, Blues and Bullets continues to be a great game.

We sure hope that the wait for Episode 3 doesn't take another eight months. While Episode 2 doesn't quite hit all the targets, the mature and creepy story already has its hooks in us. Episode 2 also adds layers to Elliot Ness by exploring his past and his inner demons. The stylish visuals are at full swing, it's just disappointing that most of the gameplay in Episode 2 amounts to nothing more than repetitive gunplay sections that aren't all that much fun to play. We're still excited to see how everything will unfold in this five episode series, so long as the gameplay musters up more variety.

Episode Two of Blues and Bullets isn’t bad, but it sure is underwhelming.

I found the tone was dropped a touch due to the shooting sections, and some of the more frustrating dialogue and choices created a rather chaotic experience. It’s also a damn shame that the game holds back on the investigations, since they're the best thing about this series. Hopefully episode three will be a little less silly and start playing to its own strengths.

Shaking the Hive is a much welcomed and needed addition since we’ve waited a long time for its release since Blues and Bullets initial outing. It is always difficult to say whether or not an experience that lasts an hour or two is worth it if we have to wait half a year to get our hands on another segment of it, although the experience is definitely worth the price of admission.
