Critic Reviews for Score Rush Extended
Score Rush Extended is a fantastic remake of what had already been an excellent shooter.
What first appears to be a bullet hell shoot-’em-up that’s stuck too far in the past, becomes a game that embraces its retro influences intimately and successfully by being an enjoyably intense and challenging throwback. The only major downside to Score Rush Extended comes in the form of some very basic visuals that prevent this being an even bigger surprise.
Some might appreciate this stripped down approach, but I like a little more visual variation in my games.
Score Rush Extended is very much a one trick pony, but that one trick is a tried and true classic and still enjoyable all these years later. Even though I personally prefer to play bullet hell shooters with mechanics that put a twist to the genre to keep things interesting, the simple and satisfying action, along with its modest asking price, makes Score Rush Extended well worth looking into if you have an itch to dodge a screen full of bullets.
By doing away with the trappings of modern bullet-hell shooters, Score Rush Extended is able to deliver a tight shoot 'em up that rewards focus and skill over help and luck.
Xona Games has down a commendable job updating one of their most popular titles for the PlayStation 4. Score Rush Extended is an enjoyable experience, featuring a rocking metal soundtrack and colorful, but simplistic visuals. It’s the type of game that you can spend 10 minutes a day, inching your way up the leaderboards or lose yourself for hours. Even without playing with others, I’ve had plenty of fun with the game, but nothing matches the sensation of having four ships blast everything in sight. The game is unforgiving in the difficulty department, but that only adds to the allure and charm of the game, as I am always seeking the thrill of moving past my friends on the leaderboards.
Thanks to the dual-stick system, movement is constantly fluid and you can pull off some wonderful dodges using the slow-motion ability
Score Rush Extended is a marvellous and elegant bullet-hell shmup that is fantastically balanced and very well crafted. It's a heartfelt celebration of a genre that is often, sadly, overlooked by today's gamers. Those looking for a taste of the old-school shmups of yore will quite simply be in bullet heaven with this little gem.
