Kick & Fennick is a charming adventure that never realizes its potential. There is something here that feels unique and exciting, but it never manifests. I had fun romping through the short campaign, but it never really challenged me the way it should have.
It’s actually quite ingenious how much mileage the developers get out of one gameplay element.
There are a lot of puzzle games out there, so it’s usually difficult to create a new one that stands out. However, from time to time something special always seems to crop up out of seemingly nowhere; a game that goes above and beyond to really set itself a part from the others. That’s pretty much the best way to describe Kick & Fennick.
Although it's held back by a lack of variety in its presentation and some other clumsy elements, Kick & Fennick still boasts a clever gimmick with its recoil-based traversal, and does enough right to make itself worthy of a playthrough for platformer enthusiasts.
Kick & Fennick has an appealing concept to getting around that is backed up with terrific physics. At its best, the game is quite fun in a way that must be felt to believe. Bouts of repetitive level design and a lack of motivating plot can bog it down at times, but fans of Portal-style gameplay can still find a good deal to enjoy.
While it can be a little frustrating on occasion, as any puzzle game can, Kick and Fennick is a charming little platformer with a unique mechanical twist - well worth a shot, and I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
Kick & Fennick is an incredibly unique platformer with a couple of lovable characters who will compel you to join them on their arduous adventure.
Kick & Fennick is a fun little platformer, although one that really isn’t that substantial. You can probably blast through everything it has to offer within an afternoon’s time, with very little reason to go back. Still, it’s the journey, not the destination, that’s the treat here, and if you grew up on unique platformers, this one will certainly take you back.
