Critic Reviews for Payday 2: Crimewave Edition
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition doesn't look all that great, but it plays better than ever this time around.
The co-op heists of Payday 2 hijack new-gen, bringing with them a gym bag full of updates and DLC, but also some familiar problems. Great for newcomers, but non-essential for seasoned criminals.
The most thematically coherent heist game on the market, Payday 2 offers a refreshing respite from military and sci-fi shooters
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition isn't broken to the point of being unplayable, but it has just enough issues to make it annoying. While the dynamic, exciting gameplay that Payday fans have come to expect is certainly here, this port would have wound up better with a bit more polish and testing.
A wealth of content to keep you busy, but you need a good group of like-minded, hardened criminals in order to make the most of it.
We didn't review the original release of Payday 2 – which is part of the reason why we are scoring this Crimewave Edition – but even then, this was a game with a lot of depth and variety to the scenarios it put you in, and that's great fun to play cooperatively. Though it still has its flaws, the added content and changes that have been brought together in the Crimewave Edition build upon the original release and mean that there's plenty of reasons to sink back into a life of crime.
It's fun to play the role of the bank robber and assemble a crew of thieves. It's not the greatest game nor the worst, so if you've never experienced any of it, it might be one to try. If you have, then you aren't missing much here, except for maybe a few new cool masks.
A less than impressive remaster, that still isn't up to par with the PC version, but there's a lot of content here and the bank-robbing co-op remains a fun novelty.
