The game boasts impressively complex and detailed bowling and batting systems that wonderfully replicate the intricacies of the real life sport. What is even more impressive is it does all that while still remaining approachable and enjoyable to play. The game is not perfect by a long way but what it gets right pushes Don Bradman 17 to the head of the virtual cricketing pack.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 expands on its pioneering predecessor with the fundamentals of cricket translating to fun, challenging gameplay. Batting and bowling are similar, but better rounded, and the introduction of female cricketers has been given the utmost care. The career mode is much deeper, and the customisation options are off the chart — it’s a cricket game that gives you back what you put in.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 is a solid improvement on Don Bradman Cricket 14 and whilst there isn't any ground-breaking improvements or dramatic gameplay changes in the sequel, there is enough to keep users satisfied through the Summer and beyond. While there are a few bugs and still a few crashes, the expanded career mode makes this a must buy for any cricket fan. This is the best cricket experience yet.

It’s slow, deliberate, complicated and, without any cynicism, that may be the best thing about Don Bradman Cricket 17.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 builds on a strong foundation to provide video gaming's best crack at emulating a complex and (for the gaming mainstream) niche sport. While we give it an 8/10, in cricketing terms, it's a well-played four.
